MR members are voicing and posting their ideas and frustrations, it’s how companies listen and make changes to critical thinkers experiences. Ah “brick-in-the-wall” mindset, because you know companies have telepathy even though monitoring your internet traffic comes close it’s not quite the same. 😝

That's a real hoot. Companies make changes based on sales, or lack thereof. And, people taking the time to write and send to Apple thoughtful critiques. Satisfaction surveys, too.

You honestly believe a large tech corporation employees do not visit tech sites like MR. You believe only their internal and commissioned research drives them. Life must be great in a vacuum 😝

Curious if the iPhone 15 has lightening connector and iPhone 15 Pro has USB-C, which would you pick?
Not sure what you are getting at. What happens when the immovable object meets the unstoppable force?

For the sake of argument, I would want function and size over port. Didn't have to make that determination with the iphone 14.

I believe most large corporations have social media departments that monitor sites like MacRumors for legitimate concerns. It's clear that MacRumors isn't a source of requirements to apple because if it was:
- there would be an iphone 14 mini
- usb c would already have been implemented
- one could downgrade to any ios release
- iphones would be cheaper
- ios would be bug free (along with all other software on the planet)
- Apple wouldn't release emoji updates with software updates, because it's clear Apple can't do both simultaneously
- Apple would get off their collective corporate asses and start innovating, because it's clear they don't today
- The Apple watch would have a weeks worth of battery

I could go on....

To clarify if going forward if there are no more lightening connector iPhones you will either not upgrade or adopt, similar situation the iPhone mini customer face if there is no future version offered is to live with a device as long as possible and bite the proverbial bullet.

The reasoning was provided due to lack of sales for the iPhone mini, if a similar situation played out with an iPhone with Lightening connector and another with USB-C and sales dictated keeping one over the other would your preference change.

They may look at them for a laugh, or to get a general feeling of a product launch. But the preponderance of race-to-the-bottom juvenile characterizations (hot garbage, etc) and insults rather than well thought out assessments provides little value in terms of product planning or assessment of success.

Again... it is sales (or lack thereof) compared to previous launches, surveys, competition, etc.

But John Prosser is advising us not to buy it?
I can’t stand him. Just saw a video of his the other day after probably a year of not watching his channel and he’s still doing the same annoying schtick. With his ‘funny voice’ and saying “smol”.

He reminds me of Keenan Thompson from Saturday Night Live using the same facial expression and ‘funny voice’ For nearly every character. Man those two really get under my skin for some reason. This is the most I’ve ever written about them and I hope I never have to again.

What am I even going on about? Oh yeah, I’d never let Prosser advise me on anything. He’s just a place to hear about possible leaks to me.

It's been my life experience that people buying consumer oriented product balance the price to value, form and function and positives and negatives. There has to be good price to value, good form and function and the positives of the product has to be greater than the negatives.

Same with the port. To me a con is usb c. But the positives of owning an iphone 15 pro max would outweigh the negatives.

Correct I never mentioned that MR is the only social media outlet it monitors and selects what to incorporate into its products strategy of ever. We both agree that MR is monitored nonetheless.

That wish list and more provided is probably what Apple already has and in its own sweet time it will appear on a future product. Example the discontinuation of the butterfly mechanism keyboard, the phasing out of the Touch Bar, the inclusion of a 1080p FaceTime camera on a Mac laptop, the reintroduction of ports previously removed, ProMotion, etc.

Apple is aware the smartphone is a mature product it’s staggering features as it seems fit to prolong its transition or the introduction of another product or segment to replace it. Do people honestly believe that 1Hz - 120+Hz type ProMotion was never on the list or even AOD, etc these things have been asked for and rumoured for a long time on MR and by it’s members. MR members have a wish list and Apple is already had these or added them to its list of things it strategically incorporated into so and so years iPhone it’s not unheard of. Widgets on the lock screen think that is new; nope. Search bar on the bottom also not new.

Just because a MR member mentions here does not necessary mean it’s going to be in the next iPhone or the year after but it will make its way eventually. 😉

Exactly. Apple (and most other companies) don't care how much whinging and complaining customers do as long as they continue to buy their products. Sometimes when a company doesn't change in response to customer complaints, customers will give the company MORE money in the form of purchasing extended warranties (AC+).

I feel the same. Lightening is incredibly robust mechanically, designed for many thousands of insertions/disconnections over the life of a device that needs to be charged often. Such as a phone.

USB-C is designed for high data rate applications (disk drives, hi-res displays, etc), that are connected/disconnected infrequently. I do not expect the same level of mechanical robustness as Lightening - indeed, it feels somewhat fragile in comparison.

Just make the pro and the pro max and charge 100$ less for both models and sell more to everyone.
Can always have the previous years for 100-200$ less.

I don't agree about Apple staggering features. I think Apple choose the feature set in each iphone to ensure the implementation is done in an apple like manner and not what people accuse android of doing, which is half-assed implementations. Apple doesn't throw **** against the wall and hope it sticks. The word you used is "strategic".

In my observation Apple makes updates for the benefit of users and the ecosystem; if there is no benefit to most of the users or any of the ecosystem, Apple won't do it, which is why the list above has not yet made it to production.

Yet Apple has adopted USB-C on its notebooks and iPad lineup for sometimes and other manufacturers have done so on a phone for even longer. Robustness relating to any connector is varied as I have had many Lightening connectors not register to charge, shortly after I register to charge and the same when connecting it to a laptop. I would not call that robust. The housing and many times the wire itself on Apple’s own cables either crack or rip. Any connector with misuse will fail including Lightening connector. If it was so great why not use it to charge its previous MacBook, why use USB-C, why not have one Lightening and one USB-C port on that discontinued product as there is enough space to do so much more than MagSafe. The only robust connector on any Mac I have had is MagSafe however I have seen some break on a relatives laptop who is a student. So the question is who exactly is Lightening, USB-C and MagSafe built for all have its fair share of problems. I have been using USB-C on my iPad Pro and Mac for years, no problem. Lightening I and several family members and friends have had issues with it registering to charge or disengages the charge shortly after plugging it in and yes the port does not have gunk in it.

3D Touch on iPhone does come to mind. TouchBar and Butterfly mechanism keyboard also come to mind on the Mac. Not every implemented idea from Apple is well throughout as Apple and people believe it to be. Even the 30 pin connector was flawed.

USB-C also feels a bit rougher in that it's a bit more difficult to plug in (at 3am in the morning half asleep) and seems to scratch the finish much more easily. Arguably really dumb and selfish reasons, but with a $1k+ phone they don't surprise me.

Apple certainly drip dropped features over the past few revs. There is no reason why Always on Display, 120 Hz, 48 Mega Pixel camera couldn't have been part of iPhone 12. They just know they have a loyal based thats partly stuck in the ecosystem, so they can do that.

My strategy of just holding out with my iPhone X is working well, because when I upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max next year I will have saved nearly 6,000 dollars.

€1,339 for a 128 GB iPhone 14 Pro. Safe to say they’ll be few and far between where I live. Back in the real world I’m unsure who will be buying these things. Because Apple has gotten so greedy I kind of hope iPhone sales crash and burn. I also wouldn’t believe any sales predictions at this point. Makes me wonder who is behind Digitimes, tbh. Any analysts worth their salt wouldn’t be trying to predict sales this early, IMO. Wonder what their game is. The non-Pro iPhone 14 is €1,029 and the 13 mini remains the same €829 price for a second year running. All of these phones carry high-end prices.
I live in Germany and I feel your frustration. Apple managed to keep iPhone 13 Mini selling for that price for another year. Seriously I probably need to consider Sony again. I just don’t like Android that’s all. At least their prices drop as time goes on, like normal items should. Not Apple’s!

3d touch, one of the very good innovations unfortunately was not continued. Please don't use the "throw the baby out with the bath water" thinking in trying to support an argument that Apple holds back on features.
