I'll probably go for the SS, been leaning on that for over a week. For an extra $200, get the one you want, enjoy it more, you'll look at it every 10 minutes, so might be worth it.

I want the Space Grey model but I feel like I'm limited on band options and I want the Sapphire display and milanese loop, but I don't like how shinny the stainless steel looks (but I do own other stainless steel watches and I can live with it).

I never sell my older products, I usually just pass them down to family or friends, but I feel like I will be keeping this watch for a while, version 2 will really have to wow me considering most of the information and processing power is coming from the iPhone, the watch is just a secondary display for the iPhone.

Side question if anyone has experience with other watches, the milanese loop says it fits a 200mm wrist but mine is 203mm, will this just not fit my wrist or will it just fit a little tight?

I'm buying two. My wife wants the sport with white band. I think I'm leaning towards the sport with black band so space gray. I like the stainless but I think for a while less flash will be a better idea. I don't wear a watch currently so all of them will feel heavy for a while. As far as my dress code its rarely anything but casual so a sport model will do well for me. Maybe in the future as these get to the point that updates are not as big of a deal I will move up to the higher end which will give the aftermarket time to produce band options. It will be like cases are today, everywhere you see a band by the register.

I am going back and forth as well. My ideal watch would be the SS paired with the milanese or black leather strap. Although, I'm not sure if it's worth $300 more than the space grey aluminum watch which I also think looks rather nice.

However, I feel that the sapphire glass will be somewhat necessary for a watch which is more prone to being banged around against things as it's being worn on your wrist (as opposed to a phone in your pocket). I also thing the weight of the stainless steel is a huge plus, making the product feel much more "premium."

I also feel as though the space grey aluminum watch will be a very popular choice, and I don't really know how I will feel wearing that particular watch and (perhaps often) seeing other people wearing an identical one. So for me, perhaps the SS is worth it.

My struggle between aluminum vs. SS is how long do I intend to keep the watch?

In a traditional watch that just tells time, good material and SS is important because I would be keep it forever if not passing down to the next generation.

However given the context of a smart watch, being a piece of disposable tech, where I would probably upgrade when the next version comes out, are sapphire / SS really critical it the time frame is as short as 1 to 3 years versus a life time and more as in the case of a traditional watch?

Haha.. we are sharing similar thoughts, except I "thought" I was going to keep my iPhone 3G for a while, and same goes for 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 6 and so on... I ended up upgrading yearly.

Would watch be in the similar case? I really don't want to upgrade yet another Apple gadget on the regular basis.

This is exactly why I'm getting the Sport. Well also because I don't like the shiny SS fingerprint magnet.

I skipped the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5s, I had the first gen iPad, iPad 2 and iPad mini first gen. I had the first gen iPod nano and then iPod nano 4th gen, 7th gen. I know Apple's history of product cycles and I'm sure I will get gen 2 of the Apple Watch but beyond that I know I don't need the latest and greatest all the time.

This is also why I am going for the Sport. I love watches and all of my watches are SS with sapphire, but they are mechanical and will last a lifetime. This is something that I will end up trading in once newer models come out, so to me this is disposable. No need for extra durability.

Considering I don't know if I even want one, or WTF i'm doing. I figure i'll buy the cheapest one. IF I find after a short while that it's 'part of me' (or whatever), i'll return it and get a better one if I so choose.

Mind you, I will do this precisely once. Not 5 or 15 times (cough).

I was actually pretty sure I was going with the Space Gray aluminum version, but lately, I have also looked on the SS version with black sports band.

Only pros I can think of are:
1) Sapphire screen
2) Bands seems to look better on the SS version. I don't think that bands other than white and black sports looks great on the sports.

However, with the price premium of the SS version, I feel pretty stupid paying more for only sapphire, when the sports version have exactly the same features.

Thinking about making two orders; one for the space gray sport, and one for SS with black sports band. Then waiting for previews to arrive (they should come in the same day as preorders, as people can try in-store), and decide after that, and then cancel the order of the watch I don't want (I live in Denmark, so I can't try it on myself).

Still leaning towards the steel version these days. But it'll probably change opinion a thousand times before April 10.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Why are people assuming that the SS will be a finger print magnet? I have SS watches and don't seem to notice any finger prints. The watch is worn on the wrist and not on your fingers and apart from the touch screen and Crown I dont see why i should handle the watch with my fingers.

Agreed. People wanting the Sport model (or don't have the money for a SS model) are probably rationalizing and using this non-existent problem as an excuse to make themselves feel better about their upcoming purchase.

True. And it's obvious that there will be many fingerprints on the hands-on models from the event, as 100 journalists are touching and fiddling around with them.

Because it's the same shiny finish like the back of the old iPods. Also you can just see in the press pictures, the highly polished finish is full of finger prints. The watch also has a button which means you'll grab both sides of the watch to press it.

Ummmm no.

Ummmm no.

Wrong. It's not the same material/finish used on the iPods.

I could see the Space black SS leaving fingerprints, but not the unpainted SS. My invicta is SS in Gunmetal color, and it does leave some fingerprint. But it's not that bad anyways because it's not like I am touching it all the time, except for putting it on and taking it off. But with the AW I can see it getting touch all the time, so that's a different story especially for the Space black SS.

Ok, explain to me how it doesn't have the same highly polished finish...

Different materials show fingerprint differently. However, the SS models in the press pictures won't be representative of how they'll actually look because you had 100 excited journalists with greasy/clammy fingers touching them. Have you ever seen the iPhone floor models in the Apple Store? Full of fingerprints even on the same anodized finish found on the Sport models. You'd similarly agree these are not representative of how the Sport models would actually look like.

No offense, but this is highly anecdotal.

Well on one of the threads here, they showed a photo of the SS Space black, at one of the apple event. You could clearly see all the smuges all over it from being touch a lot. I will be getting the SS for the wife and myself. I would get the Space black SS, but I can't justify the price of it. Especially seen that I will be purchasing two SS 38 & 42mm. Really it's not a big deal I could live with having the SS black. Originally that was my choice at first until hearing the price.

The standard SS also showed smudges, but remember you had 100 excited people with clammy hands touching them.

Well on the 10th Aprol I will go to my nearest Apple Store for an appointment and have a play with the SS abd try the finger print test. It's the only way to I is for sure

Lol... Fingerprint test.. Have you ever tried a stainless steel watch? Not really a fingerprint magnet.

How are your iPhone screens holding up? No fingerprints at all?

Anyone else see sawing back and forth between choosing the Aluminum (space grey for me) or Stainless Steel model?

I think the Stainless Steel model will be more versatile, but I worry about how much it will weigh and comfortability vs. the Aluminum model. Then again, I can get the Aluminum model, dress it up with the leather band I want, and still save $100.

I think the answer will ultimately come to trying them both on in the store ahead of time, but in the interim, I am really going back and forth.
[doublepost=1544839661][/doublepost]This might sound like a strange thing to say, but the aluminum has a kind of frosted look. The s. s. is shiny to the point that it looks almost like cheap plastic (as do the Watch 3 ceramic models), but the aluminum never has that misleading look. Result: the aluminum actually manages to look like it's a more expensive watch. (This remark doesn't apply to the gold aluminum, which looks absolutely foul).

I bought myself and my wife the 44mm Space Black Steel Case with Black Sports Band. We both left the black Sports Bands in the box and bought Black Sports Loop bands for the watches. The watches look and feel amazing.

Bottom line if you want the SS watch and you can afford it, get it. All of my life I've always regretted not buying the exact product model that I wanted. I will not make that mistake again.
