uk To receive your discount, orders must be placed through a sales agent, not directly through an online store. When preconfiguring, your selections will show retail price. Discounts are calculated by the sales agent and sent in your confirmation email.

Oh I see. Thanks!

Do you by any chance know the retail price after discount?

They didn't send anything asking you to fax it in? You just sent it?

No, they won't. You just need to fax it soon after you activate your account. I purchased my membership on Wednesday and faxed it soon after, and all was done by Thursday. You should not have any trouble. On your ADC profile, you have to fill in the student info though, which school you go to and your student ID#. That's about it. Once Apple receives your fax, they will send an email to confirm your account is fully activated.

So when I go to my profile on the ADC site I have the following show: Membership Level: ADC Student Membership under Membership Information but when I navigate to the Active Assets section, I do not see the Hardware Discount notation which from what I read is whats need to be eligble to order the hardware.

From the ADC site:

Ordering Information
Log in to the ADC Member Site to verify that you have hardware discounts in the Active Assets area of your account.

Is this correct or can I go ahead and place the order?

I believe that's for premium or select membership. According to this: Student Developer Hardware Purchase Program, "Please confirm that you have verified your student status and have an active ADC Student Membership on your Active Assets page in the ADC Member Site before placing an order. Hardware orders will be cancelled if your student status has not been verified." You won't get the hardware discounts on your Active Assets as a student member. You should be fine, just order it as long as you've done the verification part.

Not strictly CS...

So, I'm a graduate student in the biological sciences. I do a lot of bioinformatics work, and as of late have been learning to write some of my own Perl scripts. I intend to eventually contribute to the BioPerl community.

Do I qualify for student ADC membership? My current course registration lists no computer science courses, just molecular systematics (in which Perl is VERY useful) and topics in advanced cell biology.

Thanks,

Anthony

You're qualified for student ADC membership. As far as I know, the only requirement is that you're post-secondary student. You shouldn't have any trouble getting it at all. If you have any question, just contact ADC and ask them. I did and got my reply next day.

Thanks GamaFu!

I'll be ordering my new MBP as soon as I get my discount code!

My student ADC membership expires Nov.1 and I just bought a new previous gen MBp 2.5 for 1439 plus tax! There are no catches to this membership, it is a great way for learning developers to get great prices. I also had no Student hardware discount in my assets ever, I called ADC support and they said that sometimes it doesn't show up but it is still there. After I placed my order today in my HISTORY there was a used Student hardware discount. Worked great and I will get my new comp on wed!! enjoy!

Thanks GamaFu!

You're welcome. :) Glad that I help.

Just so you know that you won't actually get a discount code, what you will get after you put your membership order is that they will send you a activation code. And then you go to the ADC member site to join ADC if you haven't done so yet, and then fill in your student info in the profile. The next thing you will need to do is to fax your official ID and your course schedule to Apple. If you don't know which number to fax to or have any question, please check out: ADC - FAQ - Student Membership. The first one should answer that.

I can't really decide buying this new gen Macbook Pro or wait for Nehalem which should be out the end of next year... that's so long from now. I personally don't have any mac yet. :( I want one too...

I faxed my stuff in lastnight, and I got the confirmation just now (although I've been at work since 6:30am). This semester I have:

Anatomy and Physiology
Health Care Consumer
Nursing Lab Practicum
Nursing Clinical Practicum
English
Intro to Psychology
Nursing Theory

No computer courses. So I wouldn't worry about it. When it asked what I do, I just put "hobbiest"

Did you guys send a cover letter or something? Or is there like an ADC app number you put? I mean my schedule actually doesn't have my name on it all it has is my Student Number? So i guess it would be confusing for them, considering that. Hmm thas sorta the dilemma i guess. any suggestions?

From Vivid.Inferno's post, I am assuming that you do not need to be enrolled in computer courses to get this discount. I'm just trying to figure out if it's really worth it. If the discount is deep enough, it might allow me to get the 2.53 gHz instead of the 2.4, I just don't want to join and then figure out I didn't really get any benefit. So, some people who have purchased using this program, how much did you actually save over the regular student discount taking into account the $100 you have to pay to join?

As far as the cost goes, I just answered my own question. With the system I want and adding all accessories, it would save me $109 to use the ADC discount. It saves significantly on the MBP itself and a few bucks on iWork and the Mighty Mouse, but you pay $349 for AppleCare as opposed to $239 through my school's store. I wonder why they give you such a good discount on the computer and then make you pay full price for AppleCare? $109 would be good in my pocket and not theirs, I just have this feeling that I would be the one to get busted for not actually being a computer student. I am a criminal justice major. I took Cyber Crime last semester, wonder if that would count? LOL!

Sup kids, how long did it take for them to verify your student status? did you get an email stating that it was ready for you to purchase hardware? thanks

I'm worried about that....I got an email from them that says:

Dear xxxxxxxx,

The Apple Developer Connection has transferred the following item(s) to you:

ADC Mailing - Student
Student Orientation Kit
ADC Student Membership

The next time you log into the Apple Developer Connection web site
(http://connect.apple.com) you should see the item(s) above.

If you have any questions or we can be of further assistance with any
aspect of your program membership, please contact us at

Thank You,

Apple Developer Connection

Does this mean my discount is ready to go? They got my fax with the timetable and student ID and drivers license on Monday, I got that on Tuesday. When I log onto the ADC members site and go to History it says ADC Membership (Pending), but when I go to Assets it says the membership expires 21 Oct/09 - it also says on the right Assets - Active and Pending, but Active is bold.

I REALLY need a new computer, but I can't order until this goes through....any idea(s)?

You can buy the macbook from the ADC store, and the Applecare from your University store.

I can do that? I wasn't sure, I thought I might have to buy the computer and the warranty at the same time. If that's the case, then awesome! I'll save almost $200 by doing it that way!

Same boat just got the email today. Hmm what do you think? I think were good to go?

I don't know. From my understand if you order something and your ADC isn't active, then the order just get's cancelled, no harm done. I'm not sure though....I can't order anything anyway until the payment I made on my credit card goes through lol.

That's a good question...I just kinda assumed you could. Kinda like me buying my Touch at Future Shop, and then getting Applecare at Walmart...hmm

I bought AppleCare over the phone once from Apple Tech Support (at the Education price) They don't care where you bought it, and you can wait until the end of the first year to buy AppleCare. It might be a good idea to do this, since if you buy it at the beginning, and you do something to void the warranty in the 11th month, I don't think you're getting your AppleCare money back.

Sup kids, how long did it take for them to verify your student status? did you get an email stating that it was ready for you to purchase hardware? thanks

I purchased my student ADC membership on Tuesday night and faxed my ID, schedule, and passport Wednesday at noon (CST).

Later Wednesday, At 6:30 CST, I called ADC as I was not verified and briefly chatted with a very helpful woman. She went and checked the fax and verified me on the spot!

On Thrursday, I noticed that I did not have a hardware discount in my "Assets," so I called ADC once again and was told that sometimes it does not display for the student memberships, but I did, in fact, have a hardware discount active. So on Thursday I ordered my Macbook Pro!

In other words, you could probably buy your student ADC membership in the morning, fax your info, and be approved and using the discount by that night.

Mine doesn't say anything, but I need to order...I'm wondering what would happen if I just went ahead and ordered?
