Apple today released a new firmware update for the Studio Display and Studio Display XDR, its two new monitors that came out earlier in March.

The Studio Display Firmware 26.4 update is only for the new Studio Display options, and it is not available on the older model.

Studio Display firmware can be updated by connecting the display to a Mac and going to System Settings > Software Update.

Apple did not provide release notes for the firmware update.

nowhere that I've found unless they juar added it in macOS 26.4, which I haven't installed yet. I dig that wallpaper too. They have an animated version on demo units at the Apple Store.

It’s version 26.4 build 23E246 on my Studio XDR. File size was 2.19GB. After rebooting, the update took just over 4 minutes to install.

It only showed up for me after updating my machine to macOS 26.4.

I just installed it so I have not had time to see if the only bug I encountered on 26.3 firmware was fixed (black screen when switching presets).

My initial testing shows that preset switching is wicked fast now. You might even dare say… snappier! I feel like the preset bug wasn’t always an issue though so will continue to use it for the next day or two and see what happens.

Can’t imagine they sold a lot of those. Huge disappointment at those price points.

Even though I agree the pricing was bad, I bought 3 :/. I'm part of the problem I know!

It applied the update to two of them, then rebooted, then showed the update available again. Let's see what happens next boot...

My initial observations:
Switching presets no longer causes black screen (switching works instantly and no issue with adaptive refresh rate)
Music sounds fuller in my opinion
Waking up from sleep appears to be noticeably faster
Early impression is automatic brightness is smoother and no noticeable flickering. Still need to test this more to confirm.

Yes they did: rolling changelog: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/119926

Monitor FW update came through as a separate update just after updating to stable MacOS Tahoe 26.4 stable.

It brings along full calibration availability (that previously was greyed out) and, better even, support for third party colorimeters such as Calibrite (ex X-rite) ones, baked right into MacOS! This is a complet 180° compared to the previous Pro Display XDR that required stupidly expensive laboratory grade spectrometers.

I need to try out the process, but if it does work as intended, it means we don't even need to rely on wonky third party colorimeter vendor software!

The changelog you referred to is for the Pro Display XDR, not the Studio Display/Studio Display XDR. They did not provide a changelog.

My bad, apple's own help docs aren't up to date. I suspect they homogenised calibration features across Pro Display XDR and Studio Display (XDR).
