I received my Studio Display yesterday from B&H (with no sales tax in California - saved 10%). Image quality is superb. Nice having three downstream USB-C ports.

Had some hesitation about the tilt stand, but it's perfect. Glad I went that way (actually, it was the only option available when I ordered).

I want to see one of these in the flesh (well, aluminium) too. And I'd like to see that Samsung M8 thing, just to compare. The latter looks wobbly as hell though. Wish Apple had made the Studio Display 32" or even 30". The big iMac is becoming the unicorn of the tech world.

This is very good news and is what I've also observed - availability from Apple direct is much improved, and both Best Buy and Costco are offering very short delivery times for the standard display.

Same for the Mac Studio too, unless you want a custom build.

I really wish apple would come out with a 49" ultrawide monitor..., but I don't think that's ever going to happen.

Has Apple fixed the camera problem yet?
Not really. Some adjustments were made in the last update, but it's still pretty grainy to the point where I won't use it for video conferences. Fortunately, I have an MBP 14 that I typically have used for video, so that will remain the case until/unless the problem is fixed.

Four months after Apple released the Studio Display, shipping estimates for the display are finally showing significant improvement in many countries.

mac-studio-and-studio-display.jpeg

While the Studio Display was estimated for delivery in 8-10 weeks as of May, and in 6-8 weeks as of June, Apple's online store now shows a much shorter 1-2 week delivery estimate for new orders in the United States. These timeframes apply to the $1,599 configuration of the Studio Display with standard glass and a tilt-adjustable stand, with upgraded configurations still facing lengthier but improving shipping estimates.

In Canada, a Studio Display ordered today can be delivered by Apple as early as July 26, and UK orders are facing a 3-4 weeks wait.

Introduced alongside the Mac Studio in March, the Studio Display is a standalone display that serves as a lower-priced alternative to Apple's Pro Display XDR. The display features a 27-inch screen with 5K resolution, a 12-megapixel Ultra Wide camera with Center Stage, a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio, one Thunderbolt 3 port, and three USB-C ports. Upgrade options include nano-texture glass and a height-adjustable stand.

Also PSA, it is $1499 at Costco ($100 cheaper than the apple store)
I’ve been waiting on Apple for 6 weeks with no sign of any movement, so it feels a little annoying that Best Buy and Costco can get it to new customers within days.

I expect a lot of people will pick one up from Costco then cancel their order with Apple.

Still can't understand why Apple doesn't make a consumer display that is nothing more than an iMac with no "cpu guts".

Edit: Not saying the chin would be great but you could put better speakers in it or some other features. Point is this would require minimal engineering costs etc and give us a consumer grade, and price, product.
Apple has said many times they have no interest in competing with what other, third-party manufacturers make as they are not looking to compete at a lower price point — it's why they got out of the monitor business in the first place — along with routers, printers, and other devices competing at the mid and entry-level price points. They are either going to add something others don't have or not bother. Their brand IS pushing engineering, so minimal engineering holds no interest for them. Their competition is the LG Ultrafine, and Apple's fit and finish is superior (I know because I have both), and the panel looks better. This monitor IS an iMac with no CPU guts... that's why the iMac was always seen as a bargain.

I know people just want Apple products at a cheaper price point, but then they would be Apple products in brand only and not what actually makes them better — that engineering and refinement we come back for.

I plan too, after I see what the m2 mini looks like and I decide between desktop plus this screen, vs desktop + laptop with this screen, or just laptop + screen. So many great combos out there.
Went with the laptop with a screen and never looked back. This was coming from an iMac — this new solution really is the best of both worlds. Feels like an extended iMac with the ability to wander when needed.

Not until a lot of people have ultra-wide wallets that need to be thoroughly slimmed. ;)

In the meantime, I have my new Studio Ultra hooked up to a Dell 5K2K 40" UW and I LOVE it. The extra screen RE is so much more useful than I anticipated. IMO, there's no going back once you've used a Mac this way. I agree with you that Apple should definitely roll out an UW monitor(s).

I ordered Mine June 1st. Still Not here. Expected August 3rd-17th. So Sad. (Tilt & Height)

It very clearly is not. It is the same resolution but several features of the Studio display are better than an iMac.

Don't confuse my request for a consumer monitor as one for something "cheap". Apple makes many consumer level products ex: 24" iMac, the Mac Mini, Macbook Air, etc. There is plenty of space for Apple to make a premium-ish 5k panel for those of us that don't need the Studio and/or the XDR, say $900-1000. Again, take the CPU out of an iMac and give me 2 inputs and we are done.

It is stupid of Apple to abandon their customers of entry level computers with no matching monitor. Mini customers have been screaming for this forever. Why cater to the $699 base price mini crowd and not offer them a comensurate quality monitor that isn't over 2x the cost?

They'll improve even more since this is the same UltraFine available since 2016 for an even cheaper price back then.
I've compared the LG Ultrafine to the Apple Studio Display and the ASD is FAR superior. Much more accurate color, uniformity, and so on.

LG may be supplying the panels for both but Apple is putting far more work into calibrating the display well and rejecting imperfect panels.

I've been mulling buying an ASD for my work-supplied M1 MBP and even had an order in but cancelled it last week, deciding to use my 2015 5K iMac for another year or so. Money has been getting tight with inflation and all lately. But I carefully looked at all the options out there and ASD was pretty much the best display, looking better than Dell, LG and other companies in almost every way. You do get what you pay for in this case.
