That being said, if you don't care about Retina there is little reason to get an apple display over just buying a 30" from anybody else.
Not caring is too far. What I absolutely don't want, though, is a monitor that simulates 1080p or less (whether 1080 for 2160).

I've been pretty disappointed in displays lately; my Thunderbolt 27" is still my favourite. I'd just prefer the same number of points in 29 or 30".

The Apple Thunderbolt Display is ~109ppi which matches the ppi of a 34" 4K (3440x1440) display or if you want a slightly higher ppi, a 31.5" 4K (3840x2160) display is ~140ppi.

The issue is you either need to drive it at 2160 or 1080. Nothing* fits on 1080, and at 2160… well, 140ppi is pretty dense.

Right now I'm running 4K @ 43", and aside from dismal quality (it's a TV, not a monitor) I'm pretty happy. I could definitely deal with a smaller screen, though. I need to back away from the 43" to see it all!

*-Okay, lots of things fit. Just not Xcode, Visual Studio Code, Android Studio, etc. You Xcoders think you've got it bad? Using Android Studio is constantly resizing work areas. But never at 3840x2160, and the point are definitely big enough to not need to be 2x. 😀

Keep seeing reports and videos that USB and sound suddenly fails.

Have to reboot the screen and computer to get it to work again.

FFS. USB and sound failing in 2022.

How long have USB controllers and sound chips been around for?

Lots of apple stores seem to have consistent stock of Standard/Tilt and Nano/Tilt now. Still waiting on Tilt/Height though! (Context for those not in other thread: I have a bot that scans for apple stock nationwide)

I've checked every day, for almost 2 months, and my local 12 stores have only had 1 in stock (with tilt and nano screen). I checked a few times a morning.

Update - ordered June 11, arriving tomorrow (Studio Display - Standard glass - Tilt- and height-adjustable stand). Long wait.
