oh yeah, here's my essentially useless anecdotal contribution: I'm 5'6" and I use big words in conversation. That obviously proves this study wrong (even though the study never says anything about height CAUSING smartness--that was added by some dumb reuters reporter who is OBVIOUSLY very short)

The other thing is exactly what Mr. Skills mentioned repeatedly: this study claims that taller people are correlated with being smarter.

Woohoo! Someone was listening! :D

This could also mean that smart people tend to eat healthier and sleep longer so they tend to grow taller or that taller people are smarter. There's no way to tell which is right

In fact, it means even less than this. We are talking about a subtle effect, one that appears in statistics, not as a 1:1 correlation in real life. Studies like this should be taken as one tiny part of a huge body of knowledge. They are not designed to provide answers on their own. Most people on this thread are misinterpreting the meaning of the study and overestimating its scope - which is understandable, because the journalist did, too.

Either way, the biggest problem I see with this study is that it's completely based on surveys. It's easy to present yourself as better or wealthier than you are when you are surveyed and people who don't want to be surveyed don't get included so the sample population isn't representative of real life.

Good points, and it will be interesting to see how follow-up studies deal with this issue.

LMAO :D

Such a biased study...lol. A friend at my school has his head in the clouds (literally:p ) and he's as thick as two "short" planks.

Seconded. It was a pain to even just kiss my ex-girlfriend when we were dating. She was 5' 1", I was 6' 3".

How tall are you now? :p

Taller people in general making more cash could very well be in relation to better positions which in turn point to requiring high IQ to acquire those jobs. It's easy to see some correlation.:apple:

Yay! I am smarter than my best friend!!! I will get more money!!! :p

Although I wish this was true, I highly doubt it, this is just as crap is horoscopes.

Being 6'4" I would like to think this is true, but my brother who is 5'10" is infinitely smarter than I am.:p

What a weird study.

I dated a man that stood a whopping 6'8, and while he was one of the prettiest things to look at, he was also dumb as a rock.

Nice thread revival, BTW.

Well this thread came back from the grave.

I'm 6'1, my girlfriend is 5'2, and most days it seems like she's smarter than I am. :p

I want to see the test group...and the location.

By the way...the story seems to have expired, or at least I can't view it for some reason.

Note I'm of average height...so does that mean I am of average intelligence. :p

That explains Bush. He hires short people and does photo ops with short people. Watch this, you will be amazed. And he has small hands and feet ,(

We are all paying for his self-image problems...
