i dont mind spiders as long as i can see them and hate when they are in the bathroom or when im showering.

So as far as spiders terrify me, they're pretty damn cool animals. The flying spiders are truly awesome (and utterly horrifying). Some of them surf on leaves carried by wind, and others weave little parachutes that they lift up to catch drafts and fly off into the sky.

And sometimes human structures get in the way of an entire flotilla of these (not-so-little) suckers...

If they are the ones exposed to toxic waste, it's a possibility... I say kill them while they are still little!

That's the problem, these things aren't little anymore! They're freaking HUGE! Hell, by this point I'm pretty sure they could take me in a fight.

Did you say where you live?

Yup. I live on the Georgia/Tennessee state line. Where spiders like this don't usually happen.

Yeah he should move to Australia. All the critters here are cute and fluffy and won't kill you at all :D

I've seen enough pictures of death roos and clock spiders to know you're lying.

Or our little fluffies in NZ would make nice pets. The Avondale Spider starred in Arachnophobia. It crossed the Tasman from Australia, and is also known as the Huntsman.

My friend just had a co worker lose his entire right hand due to being bit by a spider on his pinky, most likely a brown recluse, that is the only spider that dies on my property and I killed 2 a couple of years ago.
My biggest tarantula is about 5 inches and my most venomous one will land you in the hospital and sick for a couple of days but she is beautiful. Google cobalt blue tarantula.

Ouch, was the lose due to infection? My impression is that tarantula bites were approx equal to bee stings? Is there potency variance in the breed? It reminds me of my childhood snake pets. They don't really become affectionate, they just tolerate you, until they get hungry, then they start biting. ;)

Where do you live btw?

We've started to get large wolf spiders here and they scared me at first. But, they may save us from the Mosquitos, which transmit disease.

I get the impression that spiders generally catch larger insects. Mosquitos are preyed on by darners and dragonflies, which are far better appreciated bugs than are spiders.

Spiders that spin webs to catch flying insects will catch mosquitos.

Is this a wolf spider or something else? 3 inches diameter (legs, not body fortunately).

I saw a blob of white upholstery fluff moving stealthily in my peripheral vision. Then when I looked at it, it stopped. So I got closer and it was like both me and the spider screamed. It didn't know what direction to go in at first, then dropped the fuzz blob and took off. Thought that was the end of it, live and let live, it must be eating far worse things, except it or ANOTHER one came toward me later from the opposite side of the basement and settled in on the moving blankets under the chair I'm reupholstering.

I live in Pa. Between philly and harrisburg. Brown recluse bites destroys the skin. My wife worked with a lady who was bit by one on the neck and had to have skin grafts done and the new skin kept dying they are something that you do not want to encounter. As far as tarantulas you can break them down in 2 types old world which is like africa and asian countries those species are usually aggressive, super fast and are alot more toxic venom. The one has a common name of orange baboon tarantula but the nickname is orange bitey thing or just obt. Now new world t's are from like north and south america they are slower and supposedly less aggressive you just never know what kind of mood they will be in. New worlds bites are like be stings I have heard and old worlds I heard you need to go to hospital just for the pain control and the pain lasts for at least 3 days with lots of nausea but I am lucky to never experience it.

What's your location? Wolf spiders are fairly widespread in North America and the world.

See here for more info, including some pictures and a distribution map:

Your pic somewhat resembles this one (the dorsal stripes):

Ahh, yes, thank you, that looks like it. Hmmm, we've been calling another kind of spider a wolf spider for years, stockier, shorter legs, dark grey & it spins webs. Maryland.

Interesting. Just like I imagine scorpions depending on the type have milder or more severe venom.

Oh yea I had one scorpion if you got stung just like a bee sting. Then there is like 3 that will kill you if you get stung, I can buy one of those for about 25 bucks.

My question is why the hell would anyone want to buy a damn scorpion as a pet, let alone one that could kill you if it's in a particular bad mood?

It's like buying a badger as a pet. What are you going to do with it? Teabag it while it's asleep for an adreneline rush? They're not loving animals. All they'll do is destroy your house and maybe possibly maim you. Why keep one around at all?

edit: shortly after typing my response above, I went to look at badger pets.

My initial judgement of them as pets was spot on. They're terrible animals, violent animals, only slightly better than rabid grizzlies for keeping around the house. But...

Those are cute. I never got to meet one in person I know adults seem pretty aggressive and will probably bite the living heck out of ya. When I was little my grandfather would raise the babies of the animals killed on the road at our house we had a fawn, 3 racoons, skunk and I can't remember what else.

I'm fairly certain now that the OP is not Peter Parker, though he does seem to attract larger spiders than the normal person...

Either that, or he's being visited by spider-robots from the future that are weaving an elaborate dream-catcher network in his backyard so that they can filter (and of course, control) his dreams.
