No, they don't need new stuff. They are selling like crazy, they keep selling more 4S than Samsung S3 in the US.

All they need to do is make money, and they breaking the record of profit every quarter.

Yes but last time i looked at a map of the world North America was only a small part of it

He's arguing that you are unable to take the average of 2 numbers 6 and 3. That makes 4.5 years which Apple takes to release a new product since 2001. So since 2010, only 3 years have passed. If they don't release anything new (as in a new category of product) in 1.5 years, then you'll complain that they are behind their "average".

I'm not saying that at all, thats why you are thinking. The report was saying ( you forget I didn't say this it was a report) that Apple havent since the ipad havent made anything new or innovative which has a 'Wow' factor.

For the first time since I jumped on the Apple band wagon and purchased stock (1997), I don't feel the excitement of a new year of innovation and outside-the -box thinking that Steve brought to the table. Every new year meant something new and exciting, and I couldn't wait for an "Apple Special Event" to cause me to burn holes in my credit cards. I dunno, maybe it was Steve's genius, but I just don't feel the excitement anymore...

I think a lot of this has to do with the overwhelming amount of Apple coverage in the media these days. Until the iPod, Apple was thought to be dead. Until the iPhone, they were considered to be a bit player, as the iPod was just a music player. For example, in 2005, did you feel the excitement from an entire year when only a Mac mini and iPod shuffle was released, and only minor updates made to the Power Mac G5 and other iPods? Since Apple is in the news every day lately, people are expecting some kind of "big news" more often. It's not realistic.

It's probably also because Apple is now trying to update every product just before the holiday season, so they can record a 'record-breaking quarter'. Before, we'd see something exciting in March (new iOS + iPad), June (iPhone + release new iOS) and September (iPods + sometimes Macs, new iTunes, iOS update x.1).

Now, it is more like this: in June you'll see the next iOS version and then in September/October you'll see a new iPhone and new iPad (no new features, just improved features).

I guess that's really the issue right now: trying to release all products in one or two months, and those new products don't have any NEW features.

I think Apple definitely has it's work cut out for them. Very interested to see what happens long term as a result of ousting Scott Forstall, despite his shortcomings and ego, I think letting him go (if they eventually do) will be a huge mistake. I'm sorry but Jony Ive is no Scott Forstall, he's good at what he does, but Hardware Design and Mobile Software Development are totally different beasts. We already see that Apple is stretched thin regarding their internal (intellectual resources). Despite what they say this has to be one of the main factors as to why we haven't seen major updates to much of their software in years. Could it be an identity crisis? Who knows. I don't know what goes on there internally but I know a lot of their pro-users are anxious with many already abandoning parts of the platform. It's a mistake for Apple to disregard their pro-users, it was the pro-users that were Apple's biggest cheerleaders for years when Apple was basically insignificant in the tech industry. The pro-users were the unsung heros in Apples silent marketing and they have basically kicked them to the curb. I'm worried about Apple and it's future. The world needs Apple to push the envelope of technology and innovation. Good luck to them.

Very accurate, and very well articulated. :apple:

And why is that a problem? Do they have to wow people every year? No. They haven't done that at no point in their existence. They came up with wow factor products every 4-5 years on average (and that's only after Steve came back) and they have been fine like that.

Future outlook doesn't look good. That's all investors care about.

The two items that are breaking records have the stock down $279 and hovering everyday at 52 week lows.

----------

And which stock is at an all time high and which stock is at an 52 week low.

And is still worth less. Google seems to be the latest fad. Once investors realize that Google and Samsung are in the converse position that Apple and Samsung were 3 years ago, things will change for one of those companies, if not both. Yes, history seems to be repeating itself. Google and Samsung are "frenemies." Neither is looking to make waves right now as Android and the Galaxy line are riding high, but it will come to a head.

That sums it up - apple are losing their hardcore fans. The masses who jumped onto the iphone and ipad will, just as quickly, jump onto the next 'must have'. In the mass market, phones are fashion and no matter how good apple think the iphone X is, at some point people will get bored and move onto the next thing.

So if apple want to keep a sold foundation for the inevitable leaner times ahead they ought to take on board that quote above and give some attention to computers, OSs and raw geekery at the same time as they seek to milk the mass market.

that's because most people buy this stuff during the holidays. i always tell people not to buy electronics during the holidays because CES is just around the corner and something new will be announced next month

goodbye apple, hello samsung. this is what happens when you sit on your ass and let competitors catch up to you.

Great so why not go an Android sites now and not **** in an Apple forum ?

Or you are like the others and can't stand that people that doesn't think like you to the point you have to comment news on a site dedicated for a brand you hate ?

Pro users were the only cheerleaders in ancient times because Apple didn't have any decent consumer devices. After the release of iPods Apple got 100 times more cheerleaders than before. And Pro users didn't kick Apple to the curb. I don't know where you got that from.

Steve is dead! I seriously cant see this Cook guy being anything more than a manager and not a innovative guru can you? Jonny Ive is a hero there is no doubt but where is the genius now Mr Jobs has gone? I think with respect you fail to see that Apple needs a Steve to make things happen.. to make things via a committee is whats happening at Apple these days hence why the stock is failing. Its not about time scales its about genius! Except for Johny Ive who else is even in the ball park? Apple is now like any other electrical company except with more disposable income. All Apple have is all from what Steve did. Whats new? Nothing and thats the point!

Yay. More horse ***** passed off as news and propagated by link bait mongering bloggers. Watch so called "investors" eat it up.

Nobody knows enough about Apple's overall supply chain to draw any real conclusions from this.

i couldnt care less for a new "product" tbh what we do need is a reinvented OS. iOS is sooooo boring and dated. ive been using it since 2008 on multiple devices and its time to freshen things up.

the lockscreen alone screams "DO SOMETHING WITH ME"

apple caught the post PC wave of mobile devices

the next thing is watches and wearable electronics which should be cheaper than mobile phones if you go by historical pricing.

otherwise there is nothing for apple to innovate. they have sold the same basic 3 or 4 products for their entire corporate history. just like everyone else for the last 30 years

Seems that it may take something earth shattering to get Apple to look at what the customer wants. Not what Apple wants.

Not having a master pitchman, hype master, and story teller is taking its toll.

This.

Apple until the release of the iPhone and iPad wasn't this big to begin with. Even with the growth they got from the iTunes and iPod mania, they were still one of the players in tech, not "the" player like they are today. So expectations are much higher now.

Anyone who has been actually following Apple since the old days knows that it wasn't all exciting what they introduced at every Macworld or special event. We just were happy they were still alive and kicking mostly.

And the stuff that made people cheer back in the days, like the introduction of G4 with the army commercial, isn't doing anything for anyone today because CPU increments became a mundane thing in computer industry. Nobody can be wowed with a new Mac Pro anymore just because it has updated internals, yet a PowerMac G4 was simply a PowerMac G3 with updated internals and a slightly new case.

What did Steve do between iPod and iPhone when he was alive? Were you asking "what have you done in the last 5 years" in 2006?

Yah, apple is doomed. They're just like any other electrical company. At least I can call them next time the power goes out.
