I have to say, while I'm not a fan of the rounded corners, I do like the look of that a heck of a lot better then what MS has been doing.

I think it's subjective as everyone will have their own opinions. I'm just basing my opinion off of what was announced at WWDC, I have had no hands on time with the new MacOS. I'm looking forward to trying it on my 13" 2019 MacBook Pro and seeing how the new features handle.

I do think the transition to ARM has had an influence in the new design.

I am sad to see the Microsoft Stores go. While I never went in one, they did not seem empty whenever I walked by one. A big reason why I like Apple is that I can walk into a store and get my device replaced/fixed relatively quickly and with ease. Always thought Microsoft could benefit from offering the same.

Glad to see they're not just shafting the employees - that brightened up my day significantly. Proud Office 365 subscriber here! Always wanted to get a Surface device but after handing Apple my $ I never had much left over.
Microsoft stores were pretty much the same when it came to fixing and repairing. If my Surface was broke due to a manufacturing problem, they just swapped it out, if it was from accidental damage, $50 dollars and swapped it out. One thing they did that I never had apple do was if they didn't have your model in stock at the store they upgraded you to the next. I went in with a 4gb 128gb Surface Pro 4 and walked out with an 8gb 256gb Surface pro 4 because that was now the entry level SP 4. Also one time they allowed me to use a third damage claim instead of the two you only get with MS Complete. It's up to the manager if they are willing to do an extra claim. I don't see Apple EVER doing that lol.

This has long been in MS's R&D labs and they finally decided to get it ready for the consumers. I'm actually excited for it, though I was disappointed it was delayed thanks to the pandemic.

That is not going to see the light of day anytime soon in that detachable form, why release the Neo/Duo in the planned form then quickly switch to that design, does not make sense.

It was initially announced for the 2020 holiday season, but as I mentioned the pandemic pushed it back, and its looking like 2021.

As a magnetic dual screen? I don't recall seeing that. You are thinking of the current Neo device, that has been indefinitely put on hold, the article I quoted is being suggested as a successor to it already.

Looks like Lakefield chips are an outright dud, which basically kills the Neo concept, which would explain why Windows 10X got transferred to normal single screen laptops, but I expect it will basically be Windows 10S round 2? In which case Windows on Arm as their lighter more modern OS to run alongside full fat Windows becomes all the more important, only they don't really seem to be taking that seriously either... as Dave245 said, seeing what sticks, not making something work.

Oh I think they are taking things quite seriously. They have the means to develop and try new things and that is what real "innovation" is all about. Windows 10 S was fine, it is just that people really do want real actual Windows. In addition everyone has to work around developers, who often have no real interest in investing in new systems. Just look at Chrome Book and Windows Phone as examples. Good ideas and devices, and both suffered (Windows Phone killed) due to lack of developer support. This is why Microsoft works to make at least 32 bit option run on their ARM, and why Apple new efforts need IOS apps to run on their new ARM.

By the way, in keeping with the theme of the thread, here is another review on the Surface Book 3 by an actual user:

Here is a interesting video. And I think that snazzy has a point.
But if he is right, I will be really sad. Call me old fashioned, but I really like my OS to be separate. I don't want a touchscreen on my laptop, and I don't want iOS apps on my desktop. But I do have to admit, most of the folks will find this to be great, especially younger people.

I had made a couple of similar observations on threads in the Big Sur forum, it seems like either touch screens are coming to Mac or macOS is coming to the iPad. Maybe both. In any event, the design has touch all over it.

sighs. The potential for touch irresponsiveness on the Mac too? Um...no thanks.

It's an interesting move if it turns out to be true but take a look at macOS now, the redesign of the icons which is in line with touch, the way the icons on the top menu are spaced out, the spaced-out vertical menus, the sliders on the control panel.

There is an option in settings to increase, but not decrease the spacing between menu items.

The layout is not best suited for a precision pointing device, .i.e. a mouse, but it's perfect for fingers.

that was a good watch. The moment I saw the new control center I thought: touch Macs are coming. Everything Snazzy showed makes it even more obvious.
I also don't believe they will add iOS/iPad OS app support without a touchscreen.

My guess: Arm MacBook, no Touchbar, Touchscreen.

I have a touchscreen now in my P53, and I will never use it. I don't know why I would want to. Maybe to test touch based inputs in my applications, but in the end I couldn't care less.

I see what you’re saying and this looks very accurate. After years of dealing with touch irresponsiveness though, I am skittish (Got rid of my iPad Pro yesterday). I do not trust Apple to run macOS on an iPad when it has problems running iOS. Not sure what I think of the whole Apple silicon switch given current hardware and software issues, and that Apple seem obstinate rethinking cooling solutions for their mobile devices.

Alas, the Omen was defective and I don’t know what laptop to consider now. Back to the drawing board...

To be honest, whilst I am interested to get my hands on an ARM device for geek purposes, I am absolutely rocking it on Windows 10 at the moment and whilst my performance needs are really not that high, my PC absolutely flies in comparison to anything I have had from Apple in the past. So although not truly needed, I appreciate how much quicker and smoother my PC is.

Got 30 days holidays to take and being forced to take Tomorrow and Monday off to start making inroads to getting that number down before year-end so I am considering ordering all the parts for a new 'ideal' PC build this weekend. :)

The Surface Book is still out there. Did you see my new review I posted?

This video is just too funny

Lets see how much humble pie Apple and it's supporters can swallow

It's typical MO by Apple, starve you of updates and features or denials then as if by magic they appear under the disguise of when we implement it it's better etc

Shame, most fall for it every time and even believe Apple have been listening where it's the bean counters and strategic marketing that is in control

Absolutely, no other manipulates it's customers in the mass market better than Apple...

I see Surface Duo is getting more publicity, I hope this means it will launch sometime soon. I'm really interested to see how well this device will work. I want to pre-order one when it becomes available here in the U.K

I doubt it will bring much to the table that the Galxy Fold already covers, just MS spin on it with a look of a surface device ala tent mode etc, but otherwise cute

Now if it had the equivalent of an S-Pen
