Will give it a try. Isn’t that essentially what the battery saver mode on Windows does, or no?

On my system at least, battery saver mode is a little weird. It's very aggressive with processor throttling (It usually stays around 1.1 ghz), making things a bit sluggish, but then occasionally I get spikes to 2 ghz when doing nothing taxing for the CPU. Throttlestop will essentially throttle your processor to its max non-turbo frequence (1.5 ghz on my device). So there are differences between the two modes on a SP7, but I have never tested it on a Surface Book.

Yeah I saw this and of course I just used my next upgrade 2 months ago...

Microsoft has apparently invited their MVPs to a virtual event on the 12th of this month (Wednesday). Assuming it's about the Duo, I'm guessing pre-orders will get announced next week :)

I'm hoping that pre-orders go up the same time here in the U.K and it isn't just in the U.S

Ugh, I am going to find it hard to with stain from purchasing this 2 months after I upgrade to a Pixel 4 XL....
"Daddy why is there no hot water, internet, or tv?", "Well little one, I spent all our money on daddys Surface Duo." ----That's my ghost after the wife murders me...

Second thought, would I be a complete douche to start my own go fund me page to get money to buy one...

😋
Can you:

Trade in the Pixel 4XL?
Wait until Surface Duo goes on sale? (MS always has sales)
Sell something else for credit toward the Surface Duo?

Apparently a picture of the Surface Duo has been found on AT&T's website. According to this short article "AT&T is already preparing a page for the handset"

It seems like things are moving fast. I'm hopeful pre-orders will start soon and include those of us in the U.K. :)

To the trade in, I'm not sure but I am still paying off this phone so that would really be what that money went towards.
Waiting for a sale..... The agony and stress that would insue:mad: I don't feel like paying for a therapist, not just for me but also for the trauma that might insue to the rest of the family.
As for selling something else. I guess the wife would be ok with not having her car anymore? Or maybe the kiddos won't miss there xBox and Nintendo switches
Second option, does anyone know how much a kidney goes for on the black market?

The Surface Duo will only be available in the U.S at launch, so no pre-order for me here in the U.K :(

US only, no NFC and $1400...this thing is dead in the water.

US only is disappointing, however it will come to more markets later. I don't think the price is that bad, the Fold cost more at launch. This is also a 1st gen product. If it was available here in the U.K, I would pre-order one!

Microsoft is great at ideas, poor on delivery. Honestly, I see this being a flop right out of the gate. Someone already mentioned it but no NFC, I mean, really!

It could have the type of device that may have forced me to find a home within Android but there is no way, it's turned out to be not a very good device overall.

A bit premature to make such a judgement, don't you think? It is not even on the market and no-one has reviewed it yet.

Without a basic feature such as NFC, it cannot replace my current phone and neither would I want it to without NFC. Everyone is different of course but I use this for making payments, storing tickets and so on as do many others.

So not premature on that basis alone.

Microsoft themselves are now saying this is a productivity device that can be used as a phone but that is not it's the primary function. It just seems like this is now being suggested as a more hybrid device with a niche target market, it is certainly not being aimed at 'smartphone users'.

I really don't know if non NFC is really a dealbreaker. No one I know uses NFC at all, I rarely see anyone use it and I live in third largest city in the US. The only people I have seen use it when I do are mid twenties and below and if that is the largest demographic of NFC use, which I dont have proof but common sense tells my im right, than it wouldn't really matter in the case of the Surface Duo as that's not the demographic I see this appealing to anyways. I Imagine a Surface Duo is probably more geared for people 30 and up in the enterprise sector which would find the productivity bonuses much more attractive than to be able to play two games or watch to videos at one time. And if it is going to be more of an enterprise device, which I believe it is, not because of what I just said but the way they announced a year ago, allowing enterprises more time to get excited/ready for it, NFC wouldn't be used or allowed anyways due to security issues. It's also why they might have used an older generation when it came to the components because they have had extra time to get all the bugs out and better reliability for the enterprise sector and most people in the enterprise sector are not worried as much as having the latest and greatest but the best device they can use for productivity. That's my take. Personally, Panos has proven himself when it comes to all the Surface Products so far and I have faith he knows what he is doing.

i love how Pano explain "what are you doing first thing with your device?" he also answer "check notification" and "we wanted to do this very simple"
Yea, so they are not giving us external display...you have to open the device every frisking time you want to check the time, notification or whatever...from ergonomics is DOA...this is a device for teenagers, and i guess will be an secondary device for most...again, its a first gen...we all know how the first gen and sec surface pro went....so i guess the 3d gen of microsoft duo will fix the many flawed things..IF it will be still around
Microsoft has mess up so many things, they started a lot of new things and abandon after 1-2 years...

I know it's not coming to the UK yet, but NFC is a fairly big deal here. Many of the popular banking accounts these days don't even issue cards by default, because they are mobile-based and well, NFC. Train tickets, Metro tickets, plane tickets and so on are more and more wallet based, so NFC is needed.

Working for one of the largest UK banks with a significant presence in the US, NFC based payments is rapidly growing, millions of transactions daily. Its the future, not the past or limited present.

At the end of the day, this device has a limited target market, very limited I would suggest.

Honestly asking, what if you lose your phone or it stops working or the battery is dead and you werent issued a physical card?

Well, my own view on that is that you need a backup of some sort, a card for when something like that happens to ensure you can make payments. But even without a phone, it is surely common sense not to rely on having a single card for payments, it could stop working or there may be a network issue affected only that issuer.

For other items, the same can be said of what if you lose the paper ticket for your flight? You know it is going to be needed so ensuring your phone is charged must be at the forefront of your mind. But the issue is lessened as it is going to be easier these days to find a charging point for your phone than try and get a piece of paper re-issued at very short notice these days.

I agree, and I think this is by design. I think Microsoft knows it too. They will use it to learn, and eventually try to expand further into the smartphone world.

My Note 10 lite is reasonably fast, well built, works great with Windows, has better cameras and it is a better note-taking device (thanks to the integrated s-pen. How can the Duo not have an integrated pen solution? Madness). And probably will have a much better battery life.
Price? I paid 350 Euros for it, no contract.

I am curious about the Duo, but the value is just not there (yet).

I think you have to much faith in the human race. All that makes sense to me and you but when you live in a world where people have driven off bridges/into the ocean/into buildings because Google/Apple maps told them too.... Lol
