Supposedly, the surface pro "8" that was leaked on ebay was actually the 7 that was released not long ago, and the real 8 is going to be in the Pro X form factor. I will take one of those with LTE please.A couple of Tom's Hardware articles about rumors and what not. I'm not sure of these were posted previously, my apologies if they had
Surface Pro 8 rumors
Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 launch tipped for next week — with AMD and Intel chips
I could see myself with a pro 8 if that was the case.real 8 is going to be in the Pro X form factor.
AFAIK, that's what it is going to be. As long as they offer an LTE version I can see myself with one as well.I could see myself with a pro 8 if that was the case.
Yea I can see that, a lot of people are probably waiting for the Pro X design in the Pro 8, mainly due to the processor. The Intel version is faster I believe than the ARM chip inside the Pro X.I could see myself with a pro 8 if that was the case.
I wonder how it will compare application wise?I am moving my son and I to Samsung galaxy tab s6 lites for the time being. I had enough of iOS hogging storage space on his iPad and causing issues. The move will be welcome for me too. IPad is not exciting anymore. It's boring. The surface x and android tablets make using tablet fun and interesting again.
The android tablet has EVERYTHING the iPad has besides imessage. The surface is running win10 and will have x64 emulation very soon so you have the windows software catalog. I went looking today on my samsung galaxy tab a8.0 for apps to compare. There is a full nickelodeon game catalog on android, where as on iOS they sunset their apps regularly. So there are 1/4 of the games available on iOS. that's just the beginning of the differences. Not all accessories work with iOS. I have an elm324 scanner for my vehicle, on iOS this does not connect, on my galaxy no issue. I have a gps module to save battery when off power navigating. The iPad does not connect to this, my galaxy tablet, no issue either. Even my dell 2 in 1 connects to both.I wonder how it will compare application wise?
Do they have the same volumes as IOS?
Enjoy the journey. I have a basic Galaxy Tab A and a basic 2020 iPad and use both. I am not an app person so can't compare that aspect of the two systems. But I enjoy the Tab A.I am moving my son and I to Samsung galaxy tab s6 lites for the time being. I had enough of iOS hogging storage space on his iPad and causing issues. I had the Surface Pro 6, I ended up selling it and then regretted selling it.It would be interesting to see if you could fully replace an iPad with a surface.
I guess many things may end up being web based rather than app, like banking etc.
Would you use a surface or something else?
...I guess many things may end up being web based rather than app, like banking etc...
Exactly. I use web apps on my windows devices all the time. It's great. You do not know the difference in them and a "real" app. If MS just had this function with windows mobile and edge, it would have been boondockers for me.When you visit a website with Edge (Chromium) and Google Chrome (not sure about other browsers) you can often see this icon/option below with the + and the 3 modular blocks in the address bar.
It's a Web-App.
For modern websites you won't notice the difference between Apps and Web-Apps.
Also no more App updates required or develop different OS versions afaik.
It's a lot cheaper to develop/maintain, covers most uses cases and most customers wouldn't know the difference, would it not be for the current different way to "install".

I had the high spec surface 3 (non pro). it was the perfect size, did all my tablety stuff without issue, and did all of my basic computing. I would try to do my work editing videos etc on it. But for basic stuff it was awesome. I regret selling mine too. @Expos of 1969. I am sure I will be fine. I use my tab a 8 way more than my iPad. I am guessing the S6 lite will be a great tablet. As I mentioned before. I am bored with iOS. It's basically the same as it was since it's start. Static Icons on a springboard so that it makes moving apps etc difficult compared to android. Previously android was slow and laggy, but since 9, it's been fast, stable and a pleasure to use again. I have no issue with android anymore. The hardware, even mid range is more inspiring to pick up than iphone, and the OS is just as smooth with way better features and uses.
For me, i mainly use the ipad for cartooning, and without a stylus, i use my finger to get better lines. It would be interesting to see if you could fully replace an iPad with a surface.

a few miliseconds faster is no big deal in real world use. Plus, if somone wants to do a bit of heavy lifting, the intel core in the surface will do better than the M series. So it's a wash really. Battery life is better in the M series compared to the surface but performance is a toss up.has anyone else seen this?
The main problem I see Microsoft having is competition with Apples M chipset. Now that they have started the roadmap for in house chips, Apple will be a force to be reckoned with. The M1 is only the first M chipset that they have produced and it’s already a beast.
Microsoft need to bring the thunder BIG time!
Thing is the M1 Mac's are genuinely extremely fast no bones about it. My own M1 MBP out performs my very performant Hex Core 17" Asus notebook, significantly so.a few miliseconds faster is no big deal in real world use.
