There is a film one can place on the ipad
the film slows down the stylus speed.
i used this in 2019 with 4 coursness like sandpaper.
a quick internets search might help.
(i only use my finger on the iPad to draw)
The problem for me is that these screen protectors are a pain to use and the dull the screen. In addition they wear the tip of the pen. I tried a couple, and I also purchased some pen tips for the pencil. The feel just wasn't as good as Wacom. Maybe if I had nothing else to compare the iPad to, I would have adapted... But I had something else to compare it to. Being a multi device user, I just pick what works best for whatever job I need it for.

How is the i5 vs the i7, is it worth it to spend more ?

In the past, the i7 never reached full potential due to throttling and was not much better than i5 but that may change with the SP8's new vapor chamber, graphite heat spreader and three heat pipe cooling redesign.

That was my thinking
Not so much the operating temperature, as that very much depends on the implementation of the cooling system. Often i7 models will be a touch heaver to encompass a larger cooling system. Given the general uptick in pricing of i5 to i7 it's rarely worth it for the majority of users.

I ordered a surface laptop studio. I'm pretty excited about it. Using just an ipad has been annoying.

i wish we could order them in the U.K. for some reason we have to wait until 2022. It seems a long wait, I could understand a few weeks, but 2022 seems far too long. They haven’t even given a reason 🤷🏻‍♂️

IMO the Laptop Studio is trying to solve a problem that's not being asked, although perhaps I'm just not seeing it since I'm not a creative professional. The Surface Pro 8 seems like a much more compelling device for non-creatives like me.

My worry is that I'd buy the Pro 8 and end up using it exactly like my current laptop - on my lap or on a table with the keyboard and trackpad as the form of input. I have an iPad Air provided by my employer, and even in situations where I'm merely consuming content, I find myself reaching for my laptop anyway. So I end up thinking that if I'm gonna spend north of $2K once the dust settles, why not buy a true laptop to begin with?

Maybe I just need to get out of my comfort zone and spend more time with Windows using a touch interface. Start with a cheap one and see what I think, then go from there...

That helps (as always). 🙂

Hmmm...I may go with the SLS especially if Asus doesn’t release the ProArt or SLS comparably specc’d VivoBook Pro in the States by early October. Asus told me the laptop releases will be staggered by region (the UK will get the ProArt in December).

I remain very interested in the SP8 which I’ll be looking into during more extensive sales and when things settle here. Mom and I are thoroughly fed up with iPads.

IMO Windows and touch makes sense for people using a pen. I have a touchscreen laptop and touch is such a bad way to interact with Windows 10/11

Microsoft will serve the markets that are most profitable or has most interest in first. The rest likely waiting 6 months or more. Was the same with Surface Book and a major factor in why I didn't opt for a 15".

Prepare to dig deep for SLS with Microsoft very much pulling an Apple on specs & pricing.

See if it’s a premium product and one that will last, I don’t mind paying extra cash. It’s why I use Apple devices, they cost more but in the long run they last a lot longer as well (at least in my experience).

Don't disagree on the long-term value of Mac's & Surface...

Personally I'd like to see a somewhat fairer approach to the way the systems and specifications are designed & bundled. The need for a larger display does not by default equate to the need for significantly greater performance. Applies to; CPU dGPU, Display, Storage, RAM, etc. currently the dice are very much loaded on the side of the provider, not the customer, equally that's the game.

My first Gen Surface Book also performs as intended, despite my eldest's best efforts. Taking her through education until opting for an iPad earlier this year.

Appreciate the heads up. Do you find the pen to be an intuitive way to move around Windows? I don't need to take notes nor do I draw, so maybe a regular laptop makes sense - especially since I already have my work iPad to watch movies on a plane, etc.

Regardless I think the Pro 8 is a nice piece of hardware, even if it doesn't fit my specific use case. It's still lighter than a similarly equipped 13" XPS, so maybe I shouldn't care so much if I never really use it as a tablet?

Yes, that’s my biggest complaint beyond the meh cpu & gpu: MS pulling an Apple with lower end specs and high prices.

Also, a smaller display…🧐 If I didn’t buy this garbage HP display for the former job, I wouldn’t be too bothered by needing an external display too.

Generally, I’d agree to spend more. Wish Microsoft released a 24” Surface Studio at these price points, I‘d buy one in a heartbeat with these internals.

Well, we’ll see. I am not entirely poo-pooing the SLS, but if Asus drop either one of those laptops in the next week plus my decision is made.

It sound like what you need is a 360 laptop which gives a good option when folded back but acts like a clamshell most of the time

I am always surprised when people say solve a problem not being asked be it laptops or phones. Why anyone would think one format suits all is beyond me :)

I watched my kids grow up with clamshells and they just sit or relax differently and would of got far more use out of formats now available today.

Same as my wife and her liking for light weight portables she would be completely frustrated with a 2 in 1 or anything over 1kg clamshell.

It's a big thumbs up in my book for MS inspiring so many options on formats and a big thumbs down on Apple for not

It's good to have choices and variants that morph, evolve and inspire and not just give 1 format with colour variants to match your lounge or kitchen then gouge you on accessories

I don't know, I tried a couple of those, and it is not the same as using a Surface Pro form factor. The SP is so superior...even if you mostly use it as a laptop...in my opinion...
