So exactly what the rumors said, right?

Not quite:
First of all, contrary to some rumors, Microsoft went with Intel's 10th-generation 'Ice Lake' CPUs instead of Comet Lake. Both would be 10th-gen, but Ice Lake is made on a 10nm process while Comet Lake is 14nm; however, Comet Lake is still a more powerful CPU since Intel had to turn down the clock on Ice Lake to get it down to 10nm.
(from the neowin link above)

Haha nah all good :)

Some were hoping for a redesign, too but externally all is the same. (I have no problem with this - I love the design of my SB2). Only thing I wish they would have done would have been to have lowered the headphone jack. I hate it up there lol

What a time to be alive, a Microsoft commercial for a Windows device using WSL as a feature. (from the video)

The headphone jack placement, starting memory and drive size on the 15" model and lack of a 6 core option really make me question how they can still ask a starting price of $2,299 (15). I was holding out for the SB3 for a long time hoping we'd see some decent base model improvements but now I'm more interested in what Dell has to offer. I was hoping for a 13.5 or 15" SB3 6 core/12 thread 16GB / 512GB variant, for around $2,000-$2,300... something close to what Apple charges. I know what you're really paying for is the uniqueness of the design, it's a 2 in 1, I understand all that. But the prices are ridiculous.

Surface Book 3 13.5 - Consumer
ModelPrice
10th Gen Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB, Iris Plus$1,599
10th Gen Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB, GTX 1650$1,999
10th Gen Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM, 512GB, GTX 1650$2,499
10th Gen Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB, GTX 1650$2,699

Surface Book 3 15 - Consumer
ModelPrice
10th Gen Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 256GB, GTX 1660Ti$2,299
10th Gen Intel Core i7, 32 GB RAM, 512GB, GTX 1660Ti$2,799
10th Gen Intel Core i7, 32 GB RAM, 1TB, GTX 1660Ti$2,999
10th Gen Intel Core i7, 32 GB RAM, 2TB, GTX 1660Ti$3,399

(Pulled this info from WindowsCentral.com)

This also really made me upset since I use Hyper-V a lot:

"The consumer version of Surface Book 3 ships with Windows 10 Home, while the commercial ones have Windows 10 Pro, hence the extra $100 difference."

They really couldn't include Professional when they're asking that much?

Dilemma time for me....do I get a Book 3 or hold fire and see what Apple does. I can’t pre-order the Book 3 yet anyway, I’m in the U.K. and pre-orders are not live yet.

Yeah, while I do like the surface products they're definitely taking a page out of Apple's playbook
These are still worse than Apple post 16" IMO - other than the £1,299/£1,499 13" base Pro released yesterday, the MacBook lineup now seems reasonable if on the expensive side. Surface book pricing is still taking the absolute Michael on some configs...

Have Microsoft increased the prices with the Book 3, or are they the same as the Book when it first came out?

I can’t see pricing or even information on the U.K Website, it just says coming soon.

This article suggests the table posted by polarity above is going to be accurate... so a $/£2,300 starting price for the 15" with a poverty spec 256GB of storage and a quad core i7-U - even Apple at least now gives you 512GB and a 6 core i7-H with the 16" MBP. The basic 13" gets you an i5/8GB/256GB for $/£1,599 - the MBP £1,799 model gets you the i5/16/512, or you can get the i5/8/256 for £1,299 - granted the latter is still an 8th gen CPU. I guess you can argue the SB also detaches into a tablet, but if you're looking primarily at a laptop these are still excessively bad bang for buck at the lower end, getting marginally better towards the top.

Pre-orders are now up on the website. With my discount I can get up to £289 off a Surface Book 3.

They're up on MS now

They say coming soon though
I wonder if the new bases (with GPU) will work with the SB2 tablets. I'm suspecting no, but never can tell.

I am going to say it...

Apple is offering better overall value.

Not going to buy Apple but not itching for a SB3 at these specs and prices. Will look elsewhere and see what I can find to replace my MBP.

I'm a little disappointed. The CPU's are still quad core and the only option for RTX is the Quadro. No TB3 for security reasons yet, Lenovo, Dell, HP and Razer offer it. The prices are high considering the CPU.

I have a feeling we'll see a new redesign next year. They can't let this be the CPU and GPU for the next 2-3 years. Especially with AMD coming out with better mobile chips next year and Nvidia and AMD coming out with faster and lower TDP GPUs.

Can the SB3 use the new Surface Slim Pen? I thought I saw it in the video. Wonder how it charges.

I really wish Apple would care more about the iMac and give us a redesign! I love the iMac, it’s by far my favourite desktop I have ever owned.

there will be a new iMac release in a few days. Redesign is not confirmed. If you want to go on the dark side, HP have the HP ENVY All-in-One - 32-a1050.. you can have the latest 10th gen cpu 10900k and even up to a RTX2080.

You can still upgrade to the Pro licence if you really wanted to.

I really didn't have high expectations. And for a good reason. Microsoft doesn't want to step on other OEMs toes.
But this is pathetic imho.

CPU is lackluster. GPU is just ok, not bad, but nothing special. SSD sizes are so bad that even Apple is offering way better for lower prices. I never thought I will see the day that will happen.

And for TB3... Well, MS is using some strange drugs these days. They are worried about security? Hasn't this device been in development for 2+ years now? If so, they must have known about those security flaws far longer then anyone else.

All in all, 2300$ for 15", 1660Ti, quad core and measly 256GB? Knowing MS, they are still probably using low end SSD as well. Thanks, but no thanks.

Now, I really wanted this device to shine. Because imho, SB2 had only one flaw. No TB3. And okay, prices were high as well. But now even Apple offers WAY more then MS in specs department. For lower price. Now that is a shock to me.

But anyway, it's not like MS cares at all. This is a device that shows how MS sees PC. Not a device that is meant to compete. SB3 Dock will probably have major driver issues, just like previous docks. Prices won't change even after 2 years, etc.

It's just a shame no other OEM will pick this up and copy it. If Apple made something like this, everyone would be copying them in a matter of months.

The Surface Book 3 is tempting, but it's $300+ more to upgrade to 16GB RAM from 8GB, which is absolutely ridiculous. Like Apple, it's astonishing that the "pro" device begins with only 8GB of RAM. That's a joke. I'm happy with my Surface Laptop, but the form factor of the Book is perfect. The return period for the SL is until the 31st, so I hope Microsoft will have a discount on the Books before then. If it does, I would return my SL and pick up the Book instead, I think. (I wish there were a matte black option for the Book.)

That would certainly help normalising the value prospect, what model/ spec are you looking at?

I was thinking the 13.5" with 512 SSD, 32GB Ram will probably be a bit overkill for me, however the 256 SSD isn't enough for my needs. My iPad Pro is 512GB and i only have about 50GB of that free. With discount that would top out at £2,204.10 OR there is the 15" also with 32GB ram and 512 SSD, that would cost £2,429.10, so for an extra £225 i can jump from the 13.5" to the 15" Surface Book 3.

The Maxed out 15" would cost £2,609.10 with 1TB SSD, 32GB ram
The maxed out 13" would cost £2,429. 10, again that would be with 1TB SSD, 32GB Ram
