version 2004 is being prepped for release. Its available as a developer preview and I have it installed. Most of the updates seem to be surrounding Cortana (which I don't use). I've not noticed any differences in the start menu
Two days ago I tried 2004 on my SB2, but after installation I had no network access of any kind. WiFi, Surface Dock Ethernet, USB-C Ethernet adapter... nothing.

Windows would get an IP address from my router/NAT, but I couldn’t access anything beyond local network. Tried all the usual stuff, including a reset/driver reinstall of the networking devices. Nothin’

Had to roll back to 1909.

2004 works fine on my desktop, however.

Waiting to see what the SB3 looks like, gave my Lenovo S940 to one of the kids for University as their current one died. Torn between a Dell XPS, Surface Laptop 3 or potentially a SB3.

Today is the first day I have found the USB-C port on my Surface Book useful. Last night my Surface charger decided to die. The cable coming out of the actual mag connection was loose and if I pushed it in hard that would work, at least for a few hours till it decided even that was too much. Went to Best Buy online and was going to order one for curbside pickup except the closest one in stock was 45 miles away which if it was all highway I wouldnt have a problem with but I would have to drive through downtown Houston and in no way felt like doing it and at the bottom of the page under recommend items was a USB-C charger which I completely forgot the Surface had because i have nothing usb -c. Well Luckily, they had that in stock and was able to get. Now I just will order a Surface charger through Amazon prime and wait fr it to be delivered since I do use it as a tablet quite often and cant charge it while detached.

apparently it will look the same as the Surface Book 2. No new design according to a few people and reports. Would be nice to see them tweak the design at least.

That sucks. I just sold my MBP as well. I saw the updated MBP launched today but was totally not interested in it. Lazy feckers couldn't even increase the screen size by an inch.

My Mac Mini is my work machine now though, Don't even want another MBP, really want a decent windows, ultrabook with some good powaaaa!

it could be that there is some design changes, but Brad Sams said it would remain the same design, with more of a spec bump. I’m not sure if Microsoft will do that and still call it the Book 3, maybe they will change somethings up, after all the Book 2 had a tweak to the hinge and they added a 15” option. Maybe this time around they will add a black version and maybe update the hinge again.

But LeeW, the new MBP now has a great Magic Keyboard even though the lazy f...... claim there was nothing wrong with the butterfly one :D

The thing is, the keyboard is an improvement, New CPU, more Ram, More SSD, same money. Great, but, I give it a week into peoples hands and there will be something wrong that will find its way into a repair program in time.

My new Mac Mini will do everything I need on the development side.

I don't hate Apple, I am just done with being scared my keyboard may break or my screen if opened/closed to much will result in stage lighting and so on. Love everything else that I have just not MBP's

I think I’ve woken up out of the reality distortion field. I’m no longer in love with Apple products like I use to be. I also don’t hate Apple, I just don’t think they are what they use to be.

That is the very reason why I’m ready to try Surface again. I’m waiting to see what Surface Book 3 has to offer, failing that it will be Surface Pro X or wait until the Surface Pro updates in October, in the meantime use my iPad Pro until then.

Was a time I would have been excited at the premise of a new Mac, these days could care less as is just more of the same dull uninspiring products with or without issues that should have been worked out prior to release. At least the value is getting slightly better with greater storage capacities and RAM, for those interested...

Some want SB3 redesign. Why? What would you change about it?
I've used one for 2 whole weeks. Keyboard is great, very close to thinkpad quality. Screen is way better then on thinkpads, speakers were better then in any non-apple laptop I've tried. Entire device felt great and sturdy.

It's a 2in1 device. If I was in a market for such a device, I wouldn't even look at competition. Price is way out there, that and not having tb3 is the only faults I could find in that device. Of course, I'm speaking just from my personal perspective.

i think the only thing I would change is a reduction in the bezels and to add a black version. Other than that I will be happy with what updates they give it. I do think there will be some tweaks, I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would call it SB3 and not change anything.

you‘ve been using the SB2 for two weeks? How are you finding the detaching of the screen, and is it easy to re-attach and use in what Microsoft call “studio mode“ where you attach the screen backwards.

I just bought a Surface Laptop 3 after only ever owning MacBooks. I’m very impressed and I don’t think I’ll be switching back. There’s so many touches to Windows 10 that I like that I would really miss if I switched back. I’m surprised by how much I like the touchscreen as well; I use it often. And that keyboard—nothing like it in the Mac lineup, even after the updates to the keyboard. All the constant Windows fear-mongering from Apple users... and I’m happy and I’m not bankrupt after one purchase.

I like small bezels as well. But it makes no sense to make them smaller in SB. If you're gonna use it in tablet mode, you're gonna appreciate those bezels. It's easier to hold, and there is less chance of accidental touches. I also like black on anything more then silver, I wouldn't mind that option :)

Well, unit that I've used was from my friend from USA. It worked like a charm. Even though windows 10 touch capabilities are far behind iOS or Android. But detaching the device, using it in studio mode (I've only used it that way to watch movies), etc., everything worked as advertised.

What I really did like is the screen. It's really bright and vibrant. And the aspect ratio is great as well.

That's a good point, especially with the 15" i'm guessing that is a beast to hold in tablet mode. The Surface Book is appealing because of the detachable screen. My only concerns at this point is Windows and the touch capabilities. But i guess everything has a learning point at times.

At some point i will need to replace my iPad Pro 2017, the battery doesn't last as long as it use to and for some reason it stutters when trying to watch Netflix in picture and picture while doing other things (like browsing the web). It will also randomly stop reacting to touch input, freeze for a few seconds and then start working again.
The price of the new iPad 2020 along with the new keyboard is what puts me off getting another iPad Pro. That and the issues i had with my original 2017 iPad Pro, the one im using now is the replacement Apple sent me. That's why i've been looking around and seeing what options i have.

My daughter now has my first Gen Surface Book, the detach feature has been flawless and she frequently detaches the display to use for digital art, either in isolation or studio mode.

I spend a lot of my time drawing, taking notes and writing. To have one device that can do all of that is what I'm looking for.

I use my 2in1's for highlighting, notes and the odd roughly sketched out diagram, I find W10 is adequate for my needs. I gave up on the mobile OS circus both Android & IOS/ipadOS some years ago. I simply don't want to carry another device with an inferior OS and capabilities, yet still need a backup notebook when in the field.

The 2in1's don't by any means match the performance of the primary notebook, equally they are a lot more usable than any mobile offering, and I could get by at a pinch with remote access in the event of the primary failing.

At the moment I use an iPad Pro for taking notes, drawing and some gaming (mobile gaming). For more heavy tasks like video editing I use my 2019 MacBook Pro (13”), however I have tried using LumaFusion for editing on the iPad Pro, it works! But there are limitations. For bigger screen tasks I use my iMac, but it’s now old (late 2012).

I really wish Apple would care more about the iMac and give us a redesign! I love the iMac, it’s by far my favourite desktop I have ever owned.

The lack of an easy-yet-very robust drawing app like Procreate is what holds me back from the Surface line. Though at this point, I am almost ready to go Wacom tablet (and that would probably mean Affinity, Corel or photoshop (again)): all are huge learning curves for me, which I cannot commit to now.

Frankly, if I did not want to draw digitally and need a better graphics card for the above to run properly, I would be quite happy with a Surface laptop, or the current Surface Book 2. I need more graphics power though and hope the SB3 has one RTX option. 🙁

I am sorry I went with the Lenovo Yoga, as it wasn’t cheaper than a Surface Laptop 3. Windows ink is terrible on the Yoga too.

I would love an iMac that has a better bang for the buck too. I wish Apple would give a fig about their hardware and software. I just do not understand how they can release software that cripples their hardware (Bricked, touch irresponsiveness etc.). Honestly though, given the disposability of Macs and PCs now, I hope to find something under $1800 that will work for me.

Due to be unveiled later today, the Surface Book 3 has been confirmed to be arriving with a choice of at least three GPUs. The Surface Book 3 will be an all Intel and NVIDIA affair though, with no AMD APUs or GPUs making their way into Microsoft's premier Surface hardware. […] The Surface Book 3 series is launching today, according to Roland Quandt. Tweeting today, it seems that Microsoft will be merely announcing the new 2-in-1 in a press release, rather than unveiling the Surface Book 3 during an online event.

From Notebook Check. Anyone else heard anything to confirm possibility today?

Microsoft announces the Surface Go 2 with a 10.5-inch screen and smaller bezels

Microsoft's Surface Go 2 is one of the worst-kept secrets around, but today, it's finally official. The biggest change is that it now has a 10.5-inch display with a 1920x1280 resolution, giving it a slightly higher 220ppi pixel density, compared to 217ppi on the original. But the half-inch-larger screen fits into a chassis that's the exact same size, so the bezels are a little bit smaller.

More goodies:

Microsoft announces Surface Headphones 2, now in black and with 20 hours battery life
Today, Microsoft announced the Surface Headphones 2, alongside the Surface Go 2 and Surface Book 3. They now come in two colors, and on top of the usual Light Gray, you can now get them in Matte Black.

Also,
Microsoft announces the Surface Dock 2 with four USB-C ports and more
The Surface Dock 2 packs some considerable improvements over its predecessor, even though it still connects via the Surface Connect port. It now has four USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C ports for 10Gbps data transfer. Two of those are video-enabled and can be used for 15W fast charging.
