Windows continues to dominate the desktop in schools and business. Gee, I am stunned by the findings....but the fanboys get their shorts in a bunch with these kinds of charts.

Not one windows manufacturer has a majority. The Apple laptop has a decent plurality.

As far as computer manufacturers go, over 20% of a large market is excellent in terms of profit.

AidenShaw is more of a buzz kill than Buzz Killington. Awwww! :'<

But in all seriousness, he is correct.

They should merge the shares for Compaq and HP, being the same company and all...

No major surprises there as Dell improved their products from looking cheap to still just looking cheap. The only exception there is Adamo, which at least looks decent.

Is this another D'oh! story?

An equivalent headline would be "Nearly 3/4 of college students choose Windows laptops".

Another appropriate headline would be "Over 70% of college freshman do not choose Dell." Or pick any one of the manufacturers.

Not one (regardless of OS) is over 50% or anywhere near it.

The tides have shifted. The future is no longer Microsoft's to dictate. One day these are the people who will be making the IT purchasing decisions.

The Evil Empire's days in the sun are numbered.

I'm using my macbook right now:D

After getting a dell desktop that blue screened every few days or so right after getting it, seeing how thick other labtops are, and the fact that pcs become slugs after a year of use, I just screw it and went with apple, its been 4 months since I got my macbook and it runs like it did when I first got it, I also got windows 7 on bootcamp.
I'm never going with dell, hp, or sony again

Sure, but it still means that 73% of the students use Windows and a PC Laptop :p

Great news...

Too bad the all-mighty Steve Jobs decided all computers are "trucks" and has stagnated OSX development since 2007. I love how the fan-boys haven't even noticed.

Hardware since the Macbook Pro unibody introduction has also been pretty unremarkable too in my opinion

Oh well...have fun with dumbed-down crap apps and locked-down iTunes shopping-cart devices (ipad)

Another fanboy remark? ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Show us something original if you can.

No ****, Sherlock. Has anyone been to a college campus lately? They're covered in Macs. The only time I see more PCs than Macs is when I'm in a lecture full of computer science majors. I still don't get why anyone would take a computer to a lecture without tutorials, it's much better to take notes on paper...

I think the option of running windows in bootcamp or parallels/VMware has been helpful in getting people to try Mac OS.

Switching platforms can be painful for some who have spent a lot of time in one environment. Bootcamp is like a security blanket for many. Once they get comfortable with the new OS, they can let Windows go.
