hmm...i wonder why the OP is in Time-out?

While I appreciate the discussion his thread created, the OP seems to be stretching a bit in his Bio and purpose for starting this thread and if you read his previous posts you can probably see why I concluded that..

1. In general, what would you like to see on the iPhone as an application?

Skype, Firefox (although this isn't happening), instant manager with google chat and MSN.

2. With the High Technology Accelerometer, beside a game what would you like to see this be used as?

err... how high you can drop your iphone without breaking... v=u+at, v^2=u^2+2as, s=ut+1/2.at^2 and that stuff. na, just joking.

3. The iPhone's two mega pixel camera takes amazing pictures, but what else would you like to see this used for?

30fps 640x480 video recording with sound!

4. In a short sentence describe yourself with technology in your life.

I am tech-savvy and I think I'm classified as a "prosumer".

5.
Out of every single tech device on the market, what is your favorite and why?

the macbook air and pro. although really overpriced, i think they do serve their functions and purpose. however I do still need a desktop - it can't be used just as a computer.

the iphone would've been my choice, but seems like apple's playing around with monopoly and anti-trust (restrictions and locking with carriers), I don't think it's fair for everyone.

OK so here an idea that hasn't been mentioned yet.

Now I'm a web developer and my boss and most clients are very picky when it comes to colour. So what do I do? I take allong my powerbook running art directors toolkit. A nice pice of software that let's you view various colour swatches and pantone formula allong with many other different uses.

So what if all these colour swatches were placed into a directory on iPhone to create an ultra portable swatch library to show clients.

Swatches could be placed into general colour catagories such as reds/blues etc for fast finding or maybe a search tool to find specific hexdecimal/RGB colours.

Colours could be added to a client portfolio for later viewing/references and to give them an overall view of colour schemes.

A shake of the iPhone could mix/remove colours from their portfolios.

I hope you can see what I mean and consider developing an app such as this. I would deffininatly buy it. What better way to work with a client by showing off our beautiful shiny iphone's :D

that's a really good idea - kinda like a portable colorschemer

1. In general, what would you like to see on the iPhone as an application? A Menu reader.
Ok, since I am never going to learn how to program, I will explain my idea for a great application.
Yesterday, I was out and about and was looking to eat at jimmy johns. But, I had totally forgot their menu. So, i think it would be cool if you could launch an app that shows you menus of restaurants.

1. In general, what would you like to see on the iPhone as an application?
SAP gui

2. With the High Technology Accelerometer, beside a game what would you like to see this be used as?

3. The iPhone's two mega pixel camera takes amazing pictures, but what else would you like to see this used for?
iChat client

4. In a short sentence describe yourself with technology in your life.
GMP computer-based consultant

5. Out of every single tech device on the market, what is your favorite and why?
iPhone, because of its potential (everything world wide web in your pocket + iPod + pictures + the apps tht are evidently coming!)

The Final Frontier

1. In general, what would you like to see on the iPhone as an application?
iChat. Integrated true GPS (intergalactic, of course).

2. With the High Technology Accelerometer, beside a game what would you like to see this be used as?
Diagnose illness when waved across body.

3. The iPhone's two mega pixel camera takes amazing pictures, but what else would you like to see this used for?
Beam me up to the transporter room.

4. In a short sentence describe yourself with technology in your life.
Captain Kirk.

5. Out of every single tech device on the market, what is your favorite and why?
USS Enterprise. It gets me home. Same could be said of iPhone.

Concur

Sans the shaking, this could be useful, if CMYK values were displayed. I have a Pantone Color CUE that I never have with me whereas my iPhone is always with me.

1. In general, what would you like to see on the iPhone as an application?
I don't know if this is hardware or software, but if it's software then I would like a program that can run and sync .avi-files and use more codecs and formats than the converted special .mp4 or .h264 or .mpeg.

Not an app as such but...PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEONE CREATE A LANDSCAPE SMS ABILITY. MMS would be nice also.

But still... GOD DAMN I love this phone!!! :D

Loan Calculator

To use when shopping for something that requires financing. Should allow for saving multiple loan calculations in order to compare. Would be nice to include mortgage amortization schedule, but not absolutely necessary.

I would really like to see an ssh client, it would also be nice to record video and be able to use pictures and photos taken by the phone to upload to any site.

Cut / copy and paste would really help as would being able to edit microsoft office docs and store on the iphone

There are lots of those things I'd like but the above ones are the ones that lend themselves more to apps.

don't get me wrong i still love my iphone and the ssh client is the only one that would be used daily for me.

So then KDev, You've heard some of our ideas... are we going to see any from this thread in the App Store?

*cough PLEASE MAKE MINE! cough cough* :D

hmm...what about installer.app? for those times you need the free apps you had during the golden era

Posture Monitor

I was thinking how great it would be if the iPhone/Touch could be used to monitor my standing posture. I slouch sometimes and knowing that the iPhone can detect X-Y-Z changes, I thought it would be really cool if someone could develop a simple app that would allow me to set an upright (correct) posture, then sound an alarm, if I slouched more than a few degrees off center. I could then keep the iPhone in my front pocket, and let it monitor my posture, while I was sitting, standing, or ??? Sounding an alarm to warn me to stand up straight. I suppose one could add a nagging voice ("sit up junior") or even a quiet vibration as a simple reminder.

Any takers.. to develop this app. I would sure buy it if it didn't cost too much. And I'm sure it would go a long way to helping people with back problems, recovering from injuries, or old age related posture issues.

Go for it!

Boot camp style app!

for non jailbroken iphones make a fake jailbroken interface where you can change themes but still launch apps like safari. It wouldn't go against the rules it would be like fake call and hitting the home button would take you back to the orginal springboard. Sorry but I'm typing on my phone now I have a lot more to add so contact me if your interested.

I would like to see a program developed to make end users accept the term "itouch" as you so eloquently called it. :)

I am not sure if this is possible.

1. In general, what would you like to see on the iPhone as an application?

I am an art teacher and walk around class with a clipboard to take attendance and grade, but to have a mobile grader, with class rosters, seating chart would be awesome. (There is even an iPhone group and blog for our county of teachers!)

2. With the High Technology Accelerometer, beside a game what would you like to see this be used as?

A drawing app where you can draw my moving the iPhone, like an etch-a-sketch but with the acclerometer instead of the two little nobs.

3. The iPhone's two mega pixel camera takes amazing pictures, but what else would you like to see this used for?

Take a picture and search the net for info on it or find other images similar to it. Specifically taking pictures of artwork and find other art by that artist, or work similar to it. Like Shazam, but for images

4. In a short sentence describe yourself with technology in your life.

I use my laptop and iPhone all day for teaching, personal, artwork.

5. Out of every single tech device on the market, what is your favorite and why?

iPhone. Allows access to everything all the time. Personally tailored to my life.

My ideas

1. In general, what would you like to see on the iPhone as an application?
Mobile MS office (word, excel).
A SlingBox style app
A customizable hobby app for people to track their collectibles. It would be an integration of several list options, as well as a contacts style ID card for the individual collectibles (info and image).

2. With the High Technology Accelerometer, beside a game what would you like to see this be used as?
How about a tool for moving Google maps, as an alternative to the need to drag ones finger to move the map?

3. The iPhone's two mega pixel camera takes amazing pictures, but what else would you like to see this used for?
A document scanner? Say one could take a picture of a doc, then that could be saved as a PDF, and potentially OCRed too.

4. In a short sentence describe yourself with technology in your life.
I would describe myself with technology as holding it, or typing on it, or watching it? This is an odd question.

5. Out of every single tech device on the market, what is your favorite and why?
I guess TV would be the longstanding favorite, but I do love my iPhone.

1. A free all in on IM client with a landscape keyboard and auto correct. The problem with IM+ is that they don't have auto correct and the problem with Palringo (which i use at the moment) is that it doesn't have a landscape keyboard.

2. flipping the IM client for the landscape keyboard :p
but not sure about this one, the only thing i reallllllly want from the accelerometer now which isn't possible to make in the App Store is making the whole OS sideways. That would be AMAZING!

3. Hmm...well video capture obviously, but again, you guys can't cuz of the stupid rules :/

4. I have a white MacBook (see below) and an iPhone 3G and am a student at the moment. I am the News Manager at Tech Info at techinfoteam.co.nr and i enjoy random photoshop editing and making youtube videos for my viewers! (ki2594 on the tube)

5. My favorite would really in a non biased way be the iPhone 3G, because it really is the greatest portable device i've ever used, and until something passes the experience of the iPhone, i can't see myself using any other gadget in my pocket other then what Apple does with there marvel.

PLEASE GIVE ME AN AIM CLIENT WITH A LANDSCAPE KEYBOARD/AUTOCORRECT!!!

Thank you :)

SURVEY! What Apps do you want on the iPhone? KDev Teans Wants To Know!

Hi,

If people are looking to get their ideas onto the app store, then keep 'em coming - I am a developer just about to publish an app and looking for more ideas....

I really want a mobile version of Preview.

A PDF viewer with search by word AND phrase, navigate by bookmarks, chapters, page numbers. Full annotation support, thumbnail navigation for easy access to large documents and the ability to load documents by mounting as a drive on the desktop or via a browser.

Basically a really robust version of Annotater which started out with so much promise but hasn't been updated in so long I think they've forgotten about it.
