Would take sushi over bacon any day. The main difference is supermarkets stock decent bacon but not decent sushi; you need to go to a real Japanese restaurant for good sushi, which may be why some people are hating OP's sentiment.

... And ideally in Japan ...

I actually don't like to eat fish; but some sushi with red snapper/tai is quite good.
How about a compromise: make the bacon around sushi. Combine the best of two worlds. :p

Hate, hate, hate sushi.

While the bacon thread is 10 years old, I bet the shelf life of this thread ins't even 10 days. :D

Bacon in the morning…. Sushi for lunch and/or dinner. Best of both worlds. :)

I really like sushi… but not for breakfast. I really like bacon - at breakfast. Other meals I can take it or leave it.

But if you don't live somewhere with good sushi - don't bother. Anything less than good fresh sushi is not worth bothering with. Mediocre sushi is terrible, imo.

How can you compare these two things?
Bacon is tasty, unhealthy, all time classic, with lots of different uses.
Sushi is tasteless, healthy, trendy, non likes it but trend forced us to accept it because it's "cool"...
I don't hate sushi but never happened to me to say,
Mmmmmmmmm I missed sushi!
Yeah today I will have sushi!

I have to agree with this. If it isn't good, don't get it.

With that said, I do love some sushi, and this is coming from living half my life landlocked (my closest beach was an 800 mile drive). Having been overseas and tried it there, it opened my eyes. Currently, my favourites are tobiko, and uni.

One of the big sushi bars in town offers 50% off all of their house rolls, so I'm always getting that.

That being said, ever since I saw Michael Symon mention it on an episode of Iron Chef America, I tried a trial membership in a Bacon of the Month club. Great way to get a sample of what's out there.

Woot! Sushi tastes amazing! How can you say tasteless?

Wow. That is now my next kitchen experiment! :D

Love both, but stopped eating bacon when I lived in the US because could only find Streaky bacon and not Back Bacon.

May want to try a Bacon of the Month club. They may have what you're looking for, plus may be local to your area.

Agreed! Sushi is far from tasteless.

Wow. That is now my next kitchen experiment! :D

Hmm.. deep fried shrimp, crab, avocado, cream cheese, and tobiko roll wrapped in an applewood cold smoked slice of bacon.. may be on to something here!

Dammit, now I'm hungry. :D

My wife prefers sashimi while I like sushi. Probably because she's more refined. I grew up in the cornfield of the Midwest while she grew up on the coast of the Yellow Sea.

I drown it in soy and wasabi with a slice of ginger on top, then wash it down with hot saki. Delicious I think but bet I make sushi/sashimi lovers cringe. What can I say, I'm gwai lo.

Man, I really need to stop drinking beer with sushi and try to get more into saki then.

That's only because you haven't had any really good sushi then...
