It kind of is actually. This is why the average joe shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the design and development of hardware or software. Did you really just suggest that finding your iPhone, Swiping on it, Tapping on the remote app/widget, is easier than a dedicated dumb piece of hardware that is always next to the couch?
Macrumors never seizes to amaze me![]()
I use my iPhone instead of the ATV remote >90% of the time I use my ATV.It kind of is actually.
Apple recently made Microsoft and Sony controllers compatible with tvOS and iOS, so maybe this indicates a new trend.
Not when you’re scrolling through a menu of a thousand items. The pad lets me fly through. Even scrolling across a dozen items, I find the track much more gratifying. Buttons are better for single-item advancement. I also find Siri handy, often sparing typing at all.The trackpad navigation is frustrating and slower than buttons.
Either way, Apple has obviously listened to feedback and decided its Siri Remote isn't the most optimal design for enjoying multi-channel TV navigation after all
The ring around the menu button and the volume large layout button should be enough for you to remember. You just have to actually remember. That takes a little bit to remember to do. You’ll get the hang of it. I believe in you. It’s not that hardI find the stock remote a pain. I use it, but I find it so slippery and I seem to lose grip on it with it ending up in the cushion crevice of my chair. Also, whenever I pick it up, I usually end up picking the wrong end as it doesn’t really have an indication by feel alone.
Yup, home internet is awesome. Both ethernet and wifi. I get a good deal on roaming in Europe and North America as well. That's not the most surprising thing for me about this ISP - have a look at their service offering. They designed their own 10Gbit modem. You get symmetrical 10 Gbps internet, 250 TV channels, unlimited landline and mobile calls within that country, oh and a free Apple TV 4K - all for 40-50 CHF/month (plus two months free).
I pay that (about £30) in the UK just for a no-frills 80/20mbps internet connection.
Given the alternative of the current dumb remote capabilities, average Joe prefers using the app. This is why the average joe shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the design and development of hardware or software. Did you really just suggest that finding your iPhone, Swiping on it, Tapping on the remote app/widget, is easier than a dedicated dumb piece of hardware that is always next to the couch?

Unless you're watching a completed NFL game with their GamePass app and trying to fast forward through commercials....using the trackpad to try and scrub two minutes forward is a major pain.I agree the standard remote isn’t awesome, but how much do you really need to use it? Once you start watching, the remote use is pretty limited.
I just use the remote on my iPhone anyway.
