I don’t mind the ATV remote that much, but I know lots of people who do (like my wife) At home we have an Xbox one controller paired which works well enough for her.

we did also add a “Side Click” to the ATV remote and that helped too.

This is why the average joe shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the design and development of hardware or software. Did you really just suggest that finding your iPhone, Swiping on it, Tapping on the remote app/widget, is easier than a dedicated dumb piece of hardware that is always next to the couch?

Macrumors never seizes to amaze me :D
It kind of is actually.

The trackpad navigation is frustrating and slower than buttons.
Not when you’re scrolling through a menu of a thousand items. The pad lets me fly through. Even scrolling across a dozen items, I find the track much more gratifying. Buttons are better for single-item advancement. I also find Siri handy, often sparing typing at all.

Also, nice and somewhat surprising of Apple to partner with Swiss Fiber on an alternative remote. Apple’s not always my way or the highway.

I like Siri Remote for some things, nut not much for others. Overall is fine but ofter I use my Steelseries Nimbus to navigate and bt keyboard to input.

That's not the most surprising thing for me about this ISP - have a look at their service offering. They designed their own 10Gbit modem. You get symmetrical 10 Gbps internet, 250 TV channels, unlimited landline and mobile calls within that country, oh and a free Apple TV 4K - all for 40-50 CHF/month (plus two months free).

I pay that (about £30) in the UK just for a no-frills 80/20mbps internet connection.

Through HDMI-CEC, the regular remote that came with my TV works to control the AppleTV without a problem. It's the basic VIZIO remote without a number pad, and I actually quite like it. It looks very similar to the remote pictured here.

It has the directional arrows, a bit play/pause button, the volume buttons control my AVR also through HDMI-CEC. It all just works pretty well.

Either way, Apple has obviously listened to feedback and decided its ‌Siri‌ Remote isn't the most optimal design for enjoying multi-channel TV navigation after all

Another win for Siri

I find the stock remote a pain. I use it, but I find it so slippery and I seem to lose grip on it with it ending up in the cushion crevice of my chair. Also, whenever I pick it up, I usually end up picking the wrong end as it doesn’t really have an indication by feel alone.
The ring around the menu button and the volume large layout button should be enough for you to remember. You just have to actually remember. That takes a little bit to remember to do. You’ll get the hang of it. I believe in you. It’s not that hard

Yup, home internet is awesome. Both ethernet and wifi. I get a good deal on roaming in Europe and North America as well.

Given the alternative of the current dumb remote capabilities, average Joe prefers using the app.
He ain’t designing sh***t just hitting what best works from the two

I dunno, during the course of yesterday afternoon I lost the tiny Apple TV remote a couple of times on the couch because it's so small, and pressed the wrong button once because it was "upside down" on the table beside me and it's pretty much symmetrical. Unless you're either staring at it, or holding it in your hand all the time, or feel all over it to find the ring around the home button first (whilst not touching whichever end is the glass touch pad of course), it's not that easy to use.

Someone mentioned using the old silver aluminium remote, that's a good shout. I have one in the cupboard somewhere. And an old white polycarbonate one now that I think about it!

I agree the standard remote isn’t awesome, but how much do you really need to use it? Once you start watching, the remote use is pretty limited.

I just use the remote on my iPhone anyway.
Unless you're watching a completed NFL game with their GamePass app and trying to fast forward through commercials....using the trackpad to try and scrub two minutes forward is a major pain.

Going forward and back 10 or 15 seconds (whichever it is) is infuriating and fails more often than it works. I wish I didn't have to fly from the States to Switzerland to buy one of these! :(

It took a bit of getting used to the new remote. I still prefer the older aluminum remote.

The Siri remote is poorly designed with it being black, which makes it harder to find in a darker room while watching TV, and too many times, I'm holding it upside-down!

I wish they allowed the Play/Pause button to select the current focus. I always need to remember to click the touch pad.

But did I mention that I LOVE the voice control? Life-changing! Works really well!

Maybe I’m the only one who actually like the Siri Remote? I specially like the trackpad because it is much smoother to scroll through menus compared to a button which can be annoying to press constantly.

I detest the ATV remote. Try using it for something like Zwift and you'll come to detest it too.

Making a run down to Basel (since I live in Stuttgart- only a 1.5 hour drive) and I’ll pick up a few and put them on EBay in a week or so they can be made available to you all.
