BUT, they are trying so so hard to appeal to new business and power users, so I see it as appropriate.

wouldn't it make more sense to release 3G iPhone before WWDC, so developers can develop apps that take advantage of 3G to showcase at WWDC?

Probably not. I don't think apps will be written differently for old iPhones and new iPhones. The only real difference should be the speed of the internet and maybe GPS, that shouldn't really change any of the code

Wouldn't a 3G iphone still have to go through the FCC before they sell it?
That would be another 3 months... like with the first one.

I believe the FCC has an agreement with many companies not to make confirmations on equipment if it might impact the companies business edge. So the Approval may have been given, but they just won't make it public. Filings to the FCC are not public, just the approval or rejects.

if it has GPS, code will change.

Only for apps wishing to take advantage of GPS. The thousands of other apps that have already probably been developed will easily be show-off-able at WWDC

Apple could show off it's own GPS app, they don't need a third party to show it off

Your point Bravo0?
I was seeing this video on Apple site and i noticed Steve said the 2.0 iPhone Update will came out Late June.

I suppose the 3G iPhone will be release nearly, not on 9th (the WWDC is 10th).

Sorry for english ... it's not my language ... :)

Wouldn't the phones had to have been in production already? Or is Apple going to START production as soon as it's been announced? If it's the latter, then that's pretty much 2+ months of 0 iPhone sales.

Read this.

I agree, 2 months without selling iPhones are too much.
I dont think that this really reveals or says anything.

3G iPhone, 9th June announcement, shipping week afterward. Thats my bets.
Yes it's what i tryed to explain ... :)
iPhone presentation on June 9th and selling on 27th?

i hope this is true but it makes no sense because AT&T cancellation fee is $175. In other words, it's cheaper to buy through AT&T and then cancel it than buy it straight from Apple stores.

If AT&T gives a discount on the phone with a 2-year contract, the contract will stipulate that there is a cancellation fee of $175 for cancelling the service contract PLUS if you cancel before the 2 year contract is fulfilled, they can automatically bill you for the $200 hardware discount they gave on the iPhone purchase for agreeing to use 2 years of their service.

The discount on the phone (hardware) and the service cancellation fee are two very different beasts. Read the fine print carefully before acting upon your thought process.

Front Page of MacRumors:

CEO Steve Jobs" would kick off Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 9th.

What is difficult about that??? So so many people keep coming up with random dates and times?????

Apple specifically said that the old and new iPhones will have the same O/S so that apps could work on either version...

I agree that article is kind of arrogant. If Apple can exceed half of it's goal in 3 months, one month without sales isn't going to prevent them from reaching 10 million. Especially now that the phones will be available so many other places.

Apple achieved half of its goal in the first "10" months (since release in June 2007), not in the first "3" of this year. Steve said they wanted to achieve sales of 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008 (from the June 2007 launch), NOT during 2008.

I believe 5m 3G iPhones will easily sell during the last 6 months of 2008 due to a combination of hype, new features, business applicablilty, 3G and larger worldwide distribution, thus easily surpassing what sold in the first year of release. JMO

This is the reason Apple released iPhone SDK 2.0 to developers. They all know the new phone will be 3G capable. 3G will just offer greater speeds than EDGE.
