Probably the mess of icons on the homescreen with text (especially all the useless Apple crap), and a convoluted settings page. When you compare it to Android's where you can have a simple look with clean round icons placed wherever you want. As iPhones are getting bigger, having more and more rows and columns of giant icons make it look messy.

Oh that. Definitely a lot of extra Apple crap which just gets organized into an unused folder...do it once and you never have to do it again.

As far as putting icons where you want, I found that to be a nice feature on tablets, not so much with phones...shrug.

Just the settings in general. If you look at the categories in Android, it makes more logical sense from a usability perspective.
But if you are used to iOS, the Android menus will be alien or complicated to you.
For a new smartphone user, the Android menus are easier to understand.

Well, my only exposure to android is a Samsung Tab Pro tablet...both iOS and android settings are pretty straightforward in either system. I think.

Also you can't really enjoy a nice wallpaper with the inability to arrange the icons the way you want to.

So you don't mind reaching the top left of a 6s Plus to launch an app, when you'd rather have it down on the bottom where it doesn't require you to adjust your grip? To do that now you have to fill the top half of the screen with apps you may not even want to be there just so you can have your favorite apps on the bottom half.

Why not just use both systems for me it's an iPhone and android tablet even though iv just bought an android device but I find the two the perfect marriage....!
For me it's a Nexus 6 plus IPad Air 2. Using hangouts for calls and messaging on my IPad works great.

I like my most used icons on the doc. My wallpaper is unobstructed. My icons are on my second page by category.

In truth, wallpapers on phones can't be enjoyed unless you go 2-6 icons at most (my opinion)...probably too minimalistic for me. (This viewpoint of course is from a 4.4" phone and not larger)

To have a nice wallpaper is a bigger deal on a tablet, I think... where you have more screen real estate.

I agree that having the ability to move your icons where you want them is a nice feature, certainly would be nice in iOS but it's not something that's a priority for me on the phone simply because the screen is so small.

The icons that you don't want or use less, you put them all in a folder and stick it on the second page. Sure, it is a workaround, but doable (I think).

A bigger annoyance for me is the lack of a delete key on the onscreen keyboard.

Ideally I would like the main screen to only have a Google Search bar that is semi transparent in the middle and maybe a row of icons right above the dock.
Also anyone know a way to change Siri's default suggestions from Google and not Bing?

Honestly, the only reason I haven't jump the ship to Android is FaceTime/Imessage.

Why dont you use an app that works with whatever os and you dont need to know if the other is using a x, y, z, ... device?

Althought i use iphone/ipad i only use imessage with my bf. With others i use apps that works with whatever...

Looks like a big mess like my iphone too...

That wallpaper just doesnt work. It is a mess. Mine looks the same (i have a xmas wp right now). With ios you have to consider what kind of wallpapers to use if you want to get the screen to look nice...

On the second screen? Ah....I've got a method. Going left to right top to bottom, my most used apps.
The first screen are the ones I like at a touch. But my wallpaper is clean. Those four icons on the dock, I want to have instantly available.

Yes the second one. Because we cant control icons/colours, most of the layouts look awful..

I just removed the first screen because i really dont need/use it. Mine looks also quite messy...

You can always to to the next page and group them there by category if you like.

I like to keep as few pages as possible. So I like the folders where I can see the icons and the labels.

This is easy for me. I know immediately which app I need.

It works for me.

My kids use iPod touches. My parents uses iPad. So iMessage and FaceTime is big must for me.

The iPhone home screen is weak game, I agree. One day Apple will put into the SDK the ability to use a Muzei like app.

But for now you just gotta work with it the best you can. I can't post my homescreen right now but I've arranged the icons by category and color and its pleasing to my eye to look. I don't have any folders on the main screen, folders are passed onto the 2nd page of apps. And I've capped the first page to 4 rows to go with the 4 columns.

If you can bother using some imagination here is a sort of description:
Camera, Sunrise, App Store, Settings
2nd row is photo and video apps
3rd row is reading and productivity: Inbox, feedly, G maps, 1 Password
4 row is "social media": FB, Twitter, Instagram, Overcast

Hopefully it will improve in the future but it seems like Apple likes to double down on some very unpopular or inconvenient features forcing users to adapt!

iOS picks up neato things from Android and Android picks up neato things from iOS.

Improved notification pane for fingerprint reader, Siri suggestions a left swipe from the home screen for powerful app permissions etc etc

This will only continue forever and ever

Agreed but those are newer features. We need improvement on core features as well.
Also notifications on notification pull down pane could be better. Grouping is the way to to with multiple notifications. But I'm guessing that will come soon.

Yes i know. I just removed the first page (empty one), because i realized that i really dont use it. I always go to the second one, so there is no point to have the empty screen to see the wallpaper.

I would definitely like to use widgets on the same way i had them on android.

Requires making a MS account
Hangouts and Facebook allow for calls and video as well.
IIRC Hangouts requires a Google account. Messenger isn't as feature rich or as robust as iMessage
Before you reply "Well iMessage requires an Apple ID." The ID is innate to the device so its not really a step up to make your iPad or iPod iMessage ready

Sometimes you just gotta keep things simple you know?

You can do grouping with notifications if you want.
