I replace everything each year cause i like to stay up on TECH on cell phones and laptops, i may be downgrading alot from the specs on this computer to a mac but it doesnt bother me cause i dont use my laptop like others do for games and ****, so having a mac will not do me bad, and if i ever need to upgrade it to meet my needs in the future i will.

The only thing i am going to have a problem with is the keyboard learning a new one cause each keyboard pretty much is different. i know ill be happy with a mac and this is why i am doing it.

I'd wait WWDC which is on June 8th and not get the white one but the base aluminum, if money is an issue the refurb, waiting a little longer till the new ones hit the store.. Or just find that 200$ more:)

I was just about to type that it may be a good idea to wait after June 8 and see what happens during WWDC. :)

Otherwise, congratulations on choosing to switch to Mac - I've done just that (after being a Windows user since Windows 3.0) and I have not regretted it one bit.

If you're hoping that a Mac will solve all of your problems, you'll be very disappointed. These computers are not perfect and it takes just as much effort to get things to work on OS X as it does on Windows.

Gee that's a sweeping statement. Anyway, as a very recent switcher I think you're about as wrong as can be. Wait. If you dislike Mac. Neowin / Windows?

meh, unless you absolutely need a Mac, for iPhone programming, keynote, or being an OS X admin I'd recommend just using Windows 7. It's not magic, stick with what you know.

If you're sick of Windows, then switch to Ubuntu! That way you'll get a decent OS, keep your current working hardware and it won't cost you a penny.

I have to second this. If all you are doing is web surfing and you don't need to run the Adobe suit or Aperture or Logic or Final Cut then Linux will get you everything a Mac will. They are very much alike.

I use both Linux and Mac OS X. I think my Linux system is much more stable and faster than my Mac. The Mac is good, better than Windows but the Linux system is even more stable, customizable and certainly at "free" the price is right.

The guy wants to switch to a Mac.. why you guys putting a downer on it..?

+1

I don't get it either. Switching from Vista to Mac is a no brainer, imho even Leopard is ahead of Windows 7 in performance, stability and features.
How so? Windows 7 blows past Leopard in boot time, having your desktop ready, app launching, etc. I have yet to see 7 crash, I've crashed Leopard more times than I care to admit and Windows has quite a few nice features OS X will probably never have.

If I had to rank the Operating Systems I've tried on performance and stability it would go like this:

Windows 7
OS X Tiger
Windows XP
Windows Vista (SP2)
OS X Leopard

TuffLuffJimmy is right, Windows 7 boots a LOT faster than OS X and applications are quick to launch too.

I would agree with that list except W7 = Tiger and Leopard above Vista. I don't get all the W7 bashing, I think its a great OS. If the OP wants a change from Windows, however, then Leopard (or Snow Leopard) it is as W7 is very much like Vista from a user pov.

The transition from hell to heaven is tough, but well worth it.

Hope you enjoy your new purchases. And this is a great community.

Dammit my Troll-B-Gone spray isnt working.

Trying to say Vista is more stable then OSX, no matter how much of a windows fanboy you are is completely false.

As someone who makes a living working for a large corporation fixing windows (among many other things) I can tell you Vista is one of the LEAST stable OS's I've ever came across. Pure trash. Second only to ME.

Sure vista works fine for some people but in a corporate environment its a huge headache.

If you hate Mac OS, why visit the forums?

To the OP: I switched from Vista to Mac OS last year and have yet to look back. I'm not bashing windows, I make a living fixing it and it is a better option if you are going to game, but for me, I found out productivity wise Mac OS is the better choice (YMMV). The whole OS just runs a lot smoother. I am sure you will enjoy your new mac.

Blech...not another one of these blanket statements again...

You're definitely the minority. I have an iMac and 2 Macbooks with Leopard, and NEVER had a crash. My work MB is on all the time. No slow downs, etc. Yet I take care of Windows machines [Server 2000/2003, XP, Vista, and testing Win 7] daily at my job. They ALL give fits and problems daily.

Some people swear by Fords. I owned 1; worse care I've EVER owned. Total POS. I've had 3 Toyota's, all run well, even with over 200,000 miles. So IMO Ford's suck and Toyota's are the best...regardless of what anyone else says; at least based on your logic, correct?

Most of the Mac switchers aren't, and I doubt that the OP will be. But we'll see.

Sure. You have to install tons of security software, perform regular maintenance, defragment the harddrive, clean the registry, format every 3 months...Oh no, wait, that's Windows. OS X is the one which doesn't need those things.

I've got a 3-4 year old XPS 410. I've never had to format it for any reason, or clean the registry. Though defragging the HDD is a really good idea.

And also, I've had 2 Dells without security software and they never got a virus.

You've also got to perform regular maintenance on Mac, too.

People blow Windows' problems out of proportion. It really isn't that bad. You ought to try it.

WTF guys his question could have been answered in a couple replies, go somewhere else if you want to fight about which operating system is better.

OP I was a long time windows user since MS-DOS 5.0. I just made the switch a month ago and I am loving my Mac. I ended up going with the refurbished 2.0ghz Macbook - $1100. I just upgraded the ram to 4GB and it runs great a lot better than my vista box.

This is silly, the were just talking about stability. And there is no way around it: Windows 7 boots faster than OS X and has a usable desktop much, much faster.

No need. No one here said they hate OS X, no one here said OS X is a bad operating system.

I booted both on similar systems, and I had an OS X desktop up/running/ready to use before Win 7. So your statement may be true for you, but again, don't say so a matter of fact that it's faster no matter what, when it's just not true.

Dude, what the hell are you saying? Leopard boots almost twice as fast as Windows 7.

Put it on a computer made for vista and not from the 1980's and it will run faster then mac. I tested it myself with both OS's working to my liking my software installed ETC. Computers always run fast when you don't have your crap on it, it's when you have your crap on it I care about the times.

Yes, it still runs slower. The difference is smaller if 7 is a clean install, but if both systems are full with programs, Leopard wins by a lot more.

I see.

What you're comparing here is three different Windows operating systems to different versions of the same Mac OS. Trying to compare XP and Vista to Ocelot or Marmoset or whatever highly amusing name Job's minions care to come up with is a bit stupid. OSX is OSX, regardless of the furry creature that is associated with it. XP is XP, but its not Vista or Win 7. I dont really see how you can make a comparision.
