I've got a 3-4 year old XPS 410. I've never had to format it for any reason, or clean the registry. Though defragging the HDD is a really good idea.

And also, I've had 2 Dells without security software and they never got a virus.

You've also got to perform regular maintenance on Mac, too.

People blow Windows' problems out of proportion. It really isn't that bad. You ought to try it.

Can I get your contact info to pass onto all my PC friends who contact me to fix their mess of PC's?

For the longest time I downplayed I knew anything about PC's (I'm a Mac guy but I have to use both w/programming) and one day I made the mistake of helping one friend out (hey, she was pretty). Word got out, and I have a hard time saying no, so I've been stuck helping out other PC friends. What a waste of oxygen having to deal with all the crap Win users deal with. It cracks me up the best though when people spend hundreds of dollars using say Geek Squad, and those guys can't fix it, and I have to come in afterwards and clean things up.

I've gotten several of the former PC users to switch and every time I run into them they can't stop thanking me.

PS: Yeah, I need your contact info so these people can get their system set up "error free" like you've magically done. "No security software" ---- let me guess, you're not even on the net, are you?!?

What you're comparing here is three different Windows operating systems to different versions of the same Mac OS. Trying to compare XP and Vista to Ocelot or Marmoset or whatever highly amusing name Job's minions care to come up with is a bit stupid. OSX is OSX, regardless of the furry creature that is associated with it. XP is XP, but its not Vista or Win 7. I dont really see how you can make a comparision.
Notwithstanding the fact that I think W7 is a great OS and XP is stable as a rock, your use of OS nomenclature is a non sequitor. So just for you: 10.4 is 10.4, but its not 10.2 or 10.5. Although I do take your point that Apple started with a very strong base in BSD and doesn't have to constantly revise everything to get things working and add new features like Microsoft does. :)
