Remind me again, is that the one that would literally explode?

Yes... but I don't think that had become a "known issue" at the time I was looking at them. I remember there was some other reason, besides wanting to wait for an Apple Watch, that the S6 turned me off. Can't remember why though. Of course the Galaxy Note 7 would become even more infamous for exploding batteries.

Don't let it sway you, because it's just my personal experience.
I come from years of being an Android fangirl. I have had notes, galaxies, and the latest was the pixel.
On a whim I decided to try iPhone this time. I have an iPhone 8+. I am blown away by how simple it is and how great it just works with everything.
If you like to tinker and have the power to make your phone completely customized, you will have fun with Android.
I have gotten to the point where I want everything to just work together. iPhone, iPad, laptop, watch etc. No tinkering necessary. I am more than pleased.

Since the Note 8 is essentially an S8+ with a .1" bigger screen and an S-Pen, I can safely say I'd feel the same with the Note.

Interestingly, as someone who's been a lifelong iPhone user, who now owns a Note 8, I would say that S-Pen that you write off so quickly is what makes the Note 8 heads and shoulders better than the iPhone (I currently have a 7+ as well). Oh, the Note 8 also has the dual camera setup with more flexibility for your portrait mode and image stabilization in both cameras. As you said you missed the iPhone because the S8 didn't have optical zoom, I thought I'd mention the Note 8 does.

OP, like you, I've always used an iPhone, but if you are wondering if there are features that the iPhone doesn't have compared to the Note 8, the answer is yes, there are a ton of features.

I wrote a pretty in-depth review in the "iOS alternative sections". I say in-depth because there's a lot of text, but in reality, there's so much that phone can do that I barely scratched the surface.
