Apple does not "work on" any technology, this could be the solution that will be put into a future iPhone. An iPhone is 90% OEM parts innovated by other companies like Synaptics and LG or Samsung. Apple is currently NOT inventing behind the glass fingerprint sensors, they are testing 3rd party products to see which one works best for them. So many people keep forgetting that Apple is closer to a Dell then an Intel in terms of "inventing" anything, they repackage parts into their own case designs and maybe customize a few parts and have a few in-house pieces. Its almost criminal how many people Apple has NOT inventing anything in their offices these days.

How do you propose the get back to the home screen when your in an app that uses every possible jesture, which means Apple can't highjack a unique jesture to get back to the home screen. Something is outdated if there is a viable way duplicating it's functionality without killing the use of existing apps.
I'm sure Apple's already figured out a way to solve this challenge with a simple and elegant solution. Have faith.

A hardware button of this type of form or another will always be needed. Any software can stuck / crash or malfunction due to bugs.

cool

So all u gotta do is look at ya smart phone to unlock.

(we're getting soo lazy.. :p)

Psychical button must be a "must have" ... and thank goodness its "multiple options", least for the time being.... But u always gotta wonder how soon will this take over as the "only" thing to unlock going forward, then we'll see a bunch of users unable to unlock their phone's statistics skyrocket because of effectively "bricked" devices.

I dunno... it was once speculated that Apple has 1,000 engineers working on silicon.

And their A-series chips are pretty fast and efficient. So maybe it's true. Kudos to them for that.

But you're right... many of the components in the iPhone are from other companies. But that's to be expected.

There are only handful of component manufacturers in the world. Is Apple supposed to build every component? Or should they just buy the component from someone who already has the skill to make it?

People always say Apple should get into LCD production, RAM production, NAND production, etc... and cut out all the other companies who are their suppliers.

But if that was really a good idea... they'd be doing it already, right?

It's because if they used a real pic from that angle it would look more like this.

What the bloody hell !!

These marketing pictures are so crazy sometimes! Holding the phone at this angle, even if her face showed up on the screen, there should be a sky behind her head, not the horizon. It feels weird. And with the finger in that position, it's almost implied she is going to scan her fingerprint... with gloves! Mindblowing!

Maybe the picture itself is sideways in this article.

If user is laying on their back on a sled going down a hill while using their phone, the horizon being behind their head while holding the phone in that position makes sense.
