Under MacOS Vega 20 performs just like GTX 1050 Ti under Windows. Which means that the software disadvantage macOS has over Windows is around 20-25%.

Rubbish.

Add a brick power adapter, and a bigger chassis for larger fans and room for ventilation, and you get that performance difference back. Apple chooses not to do this. You as a consumer get to pick one.

How's the battery life compared to the older models running 560x? Anyone care to comment?

It's hard to really know since I've only had mine for a day but I gave it some pretty heavy use today and got a solid 6 hours at work on it and never looked at the power and just plugged it in when I got home. The extent of its use today was browsing online, Microsoft Word and Outlook and a bunch of YouTube. So I should have checked exactly how much of the battery it used all day, but I didn't even think about it.

Somewhat so far better than the 560x that I took back. Love how its not as hot either. I can actually edit in FCPX and not have to use my lap stand. Now if I run it long it does get warm but nothing like the 560x I9. Ive been editing in FCPX for a good bit and just now down to 71% as I type this. I think I have had it off about 2 hours.

Based on gaming benchmarks done by Western Gents United its performance is pretty much identical to GTX 1050 Ti (desktop). I am really unsure why you would say its rubbish. I think its an incredible result given the TDP of the card and the form factor of the laptop.

And sure, OpenGL under Mac will eat some of the performance. One of the reasons why Apple is deprecating it. Writing OpenGL drivers is a total mess and not much incentive for the IHV to do a good job on a Mac driver — doesn't drive their sales up.

Like software performance will get mitigated by bigger brick?

Rubbish in that sense was about Apple software stack. Because of Apple rubbish software, the GPU is basically 20% slower than it is should be on Windows.
Yep, thats pretty much a desktop 1050 Ti. Really impressive for the form factor. Easily and completely beats the Precision 5530 thats $1000 more expensive...
One word: Unigine.

Can anyone get the clock speeds reported to the OS, by the GPU?

Just ordered mine from Adorama. Got a $225 discount using APINSIDER from this video that was above above. So it came out to this. I paid for overnight shipping as well so I can get it here fast. Worth the $77 for that price.

So far figures have been within the expected 50ti and 60maxq window, though some optimists were thinking closer to 60 than 50. Perhaps AMD cac improve drivers and performance given it's just been released.

Overall, this sets a new standard for future Macbooks. In an ideal world, Vega 16 should have been standard on all 15" MBPs and 20 an upgrade option. As it stands, Apple is more than happy to cash in on selling those chips as a high-end option until they're succeeded by the next efficiency champ GPU.

Right now, I'm interested in battery life figures in MacOS within a scenario that involves GPU-heavy and CPU-light to average scenarios, just to gauge the practicality of those Vega chips on the go. If they exceed 3.5h given their performance and form factor they'd be worth their asking price imo.

If I am comprehending correctly, it seems VEGA runs cooler both on idle and under load, which in turn gives more TDP headroom for the i9 to performance since they share the same cooling system in this gen's MBP? If this is the case then it makes the upgrade worth it even for use cases where the GPU is not needed most of the time.

Agreed. That seems to be the case.

New game benchmarks
COD: Black Ops 4, he gets in 1920x1200 medium settings around 60 FPS, on Vega 20. GTX 1050 Ti in the same game, same settings, but 1080p gets... 47 FPS.

And whats more important. He plays it in Multiplayer, it appears. Which means that in fact it could be more taxing than Single Player.

IN BF5, Ultra settings 1200p he got on average in around Ultra/high settings 55 FPS. GTX 1050 ti gets in the Ultra settings in 1080p, on average... 38-40 FPS. o_O

Now, Im impressed. Largely impressed. This thing is monster.

The scores of Vega Pro 20, in general are comparable to GTX 980M. Which is in fact exactly the same level as Vega M GH!

35(or less...)W TDP Power Limit GPU. This would easily fit on desktop in any Fanless Thermal envelope, and would be fastest low-power GPU in the world. Quite impressive, what AMD has done.

Hello. First time member here. Video editor by profession. I purchased the i9 with Radeon Pro 560X a little over a couple weeks ago and going in for an exchange to an i9 with Vega 20 at the Apple store this week.

A couple questions:
Does the new Vega option MBP come with Mojave 10.14? Anyone using Adobe Premiere and other Adobe apps okay?

My plan was to migrate from time machine as the currently MBP is only a couple weeks old. Currently using latest High Sierra. Or should I just plan on doing it manual (clean)?

Thanks
