Maybe I don't completely understand this, but as a Tmobile user, I would like to know WHERE are these ads being shown? And WHERE is it getting my browsing information from? On random websites? On tmobiles own website? Since most websites are now encrypted with HTTPS, Tmobile shouldn't have any idea what you are browsing through your cell phone with the exception of a DNS lookup.
I wonder how content blockers affect this.

They have been doing that already with some of their plans.
Yes. It's rolled into your fee. My plan pricing has not budged an inch with new taxes or fees. For two lines, I've been paying $120 per month for two lines on their old One plan. They haven't forced me off or anything. However, Netflix likes to raise their prices, but T-Mobile does offer an option to do away with it for 4G hotspot instead with NO ADDITIONAL FEE. Paying a $7 fee is better than giving it to Netflix direct for their total for 4 screens and ultra 4K anyway.

The only problem is the phone insurance, which is a 3rd-party company that loves to add $1-2 a year. Otherwise, T-Mobile has always been upfront with me. Any issues, they fix them and hand out credits with little to no problems. If I don't have to think about it, then I'm happy.

T-Mobile subscriber since 2006, and not at all happy about this. I had no idea this was going on, and I certainly don't remember getting any notice from T-Mobile. Turned OFF. Thanks, MacRumors!

Essentials plan, not Magenta plans.
T-Mobile has started to charge taxes, that is not included on one of their plans which was not the case previously. That was the point the OP was making. Old T-Mobile One plans included taxes in the price of the plan, even on the cheapest plan.

They were charging taxes on the Simple Choice plans before the One plans.

I almost never saw an ad and purchased from it. Advertisers are wasting their money as far as I see it.

The Essentials plan never included taxes and fees (https://bgr.com/2018/08/06/t-mobile-cheapest-unlimited-plan-essentials-vs-one/): "There’s one other detail about the Essentials plan that merits attention: the sticker price doesn’t include taxes and fees, unlike the T-Mobile One plan."

You pay taxes and fees on Essentials but not on Magenta or Magenta Max (Magenta plans replaced the One plans). Nothing has changed.

Further, I'm on an old grandfathered plan where I pay taxes and fees separately. Of course, 5 lines combined only cost me $70 per month (4 GB data and unlimited talk/text) including taxes and fees so there's no way I'm changing to new plans.

Yeah I too recall essentials always having been advertised using pre-tax pricing.

I'm on their old Simple Choice grandfathered 4x lines for $130 post taxes, including full international calling on all 4 lines (Not the Mexico and Canada limited one). Time to time they have special deals that people don't pay attention to and aren't advertised, and if you go to the change plan settings options they show up for a limited time but can be used as a permanent addition, that's how I got the $10 international calling for my entire account rather than per line.

Why are we as consumers ok with this?
People are lazy I guess. Why there hasn't been a legal push to shut this down is beyond comprehension. People need to speak up and get some momentum behind this, and get lawmakers involved. Even cars with 4G are now collecting info and beaming it back for sale.
