Simple. Off load more people to LTE networks. Notice voice calls drop calls down to wcdma even with LTE iPhone.

So those using LTE pure data on iPhone 5 are not interfering with wcdma voice calls.

I am sure drop calls are improving in NYC with AT&T as more and more people get LTE devices.

Verizon CDMA tech could always handle voice better. And CDMA handles tower handoff much better.

But verizon is transitioning to pure LTE voice and data in the next 1-2 years. CDMA voice will be around probably till 2017-2019 at this rate.

Nice breakdown, thanks

also lower frequency bands are easier to penetrate building walls; see today news FCC and DOJ trying to get lower frequency to the regional carriers and t-mobile and sprint.

That is true, it's why Sprint and their WiMax failed so badly

Anyone using an i5 in NYC on Tmobile?

Well I'm on at&t and considering jumping ship to Tmobile. I'll buy the phone outright since I can sell my pristine White i5 for around $500 at the drop of a hat.

My question is this...How the data speeds guys? As far as I know we dont have LTE out here yet in NYC or any of the 5 boroughs.

Since I got the new tmobile iPhone 5 I've been averaging 13 Mbps. A max of 15.19 Mbps.

Besides the outage that happened and lasted for at least an hour everything else went fine.

But i would give a disclaimer that depending on your credit not only will you may or may not have to put down a deposit but the price of the actually phone is gonna change. For me the iPhone was $280 it self then a $75 deposit that you can get back in a year. And with my phone being more it helped in the long run because since the $280 is going towards the $580 of the full price my pay off price is now $300 and the monthly payments is $12.50 instead of $20. So to give a scenario price for someone to get a iPhone 5 with ok credit it's gonna be like this. iPhone 5=$280.00, Deposit=$75.00, Tax=$34.80(going by the full price of the phone so won't have to pay none while paying it off), Sim card activation=$10.00. So you're total would be $399.80

In my area it will Switch back and forward to LTE and 4G . With LTE the highest speed i've gotten was 52 ping, 33.13 download, 10.11 uploads, and with 4G ping 52, download 15.42, upload 3.63. So the speeds are pretty good and i'm in the Washington d.c./Maryland area's.

So far i'm loving my iPhone 5 coming from a iPhone 4s unlocked on t-mobile:D

PMed you on switching.

I went to a Tmobile store in downtown Denver today. I'm switching from AT&T. The whole process took about an hour and our sales guy was awesome. He said there was a line yesterday morning about two hours before the store opened and they were using knucklebusters to run credit cards. Today their system was running a little slowly but we were able to get everything done.

We switched from an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 5 and a Nexus 4. Traded in the iPhone 4S for a $200-something credit, and kept the iPhone 4 as a back up phone, just in case either of us smashes our phone. So out of pocket today we only paid nine bucks.

I was also stoked to learn that Tmobile has a City of Denver employee discount. With the cost of the phones rolled in, we'll be paying roughly the same as we did on AT&T but with more data (we were grandfathered into the 200 MB data plan, since both os us are on wifi most of the time it worked fine). The downside is paying the ETFs with AT&T but whatevs. I'm happy!

if you are not using u r current iPhone then you are paying $20/month installment, right? is it kind of defeating the purpose? no?

He says he's getting more data. Only had 200MB on AT&T

Right, and I was essentially paying for the phones on my old plan. So roughly the same cost, more data, more texts, more voice, not on a contract, good service. Happy camper.

Seattle downtown. Took about an hour. Not too long of a line. Maybe 6 folks ahead of me and I showed up right at opening time and day.

Wanted the 32 but only had 16 available. Unlimited plan switching from blackberry enterprise service which costs $5 more. Paid in full. With corp discount I pay around $70 a month with taxes. Killer deal compared to Verizon where I was easily at $140 plus with 6gb cap. Yes Verizon has expansive lte coverage and performance thus was snappier everywhere I traveled. I'll wait patiently till tmobile ramps up with the 50% savings. No brainer.

Does tmobile charge activation fee with this new uncarrier plan? Im hoping they stop this bull crap and other carriers will start doing the same cuz that is nonesense!

I don't want to start a new thread for this. Does anyone know if corporate discounts apply to the new plans?

I was told yes by a CSR the corporate discounts apply to the new simple plans, but have yet to get my first bill after switching to the new simple value plans to verify.

nice, I had sort of unlimited talk (because of rollover mins) + $30 unlimited Text + 2GB Data with two iPhone paid $120 with work discount, I will be paying for the same plan with t-mobile about $95. I am hoping they will apply work discount.

hope account manager promised he will get some ETF, he delivers on it :)

no activation fee so far; everything makes sense because their selling iPhone at the retail price or at cost.

Thanks a bunch, very informative. Why no 4G speeds though? Doesn't the site say that the first 5GB are "up to" 4G speeds? Does T-Mobile not have 4G?

The Verizon iPhone 5 can use T-Mobile's EDGE, refarmed 3G and 4G HSPA+ 21. So technically it should say "4G" when you're in their HSPA+ network. And after you use up the 5GB, you get decreased to EDGE speeds (you still get "unlimited data").

Does anyone know if the iPhone 4 supports T-Mobiles 3G network? I just activated the $30 pre-paid plan and I'm only seeing 2G (EDGE) speeds. Does the iPhone 4S support it or just the iPhone 5? Thanks.

All gsm unlocked iphones (3g, 4, 4s, 5) will support T-Mobile's 3G except for the very first iphone.

Only in areas that they have refarmed. It's still pretty spotty right now.

Only in refarmed areas will they support 3G HSPA except for the updated iPhone 5 (which gets AWS HSPA).
