For $40/mo you get 4.7GB on T-Mobile. (4.5GB + 200MB)
I'll take 4gb with better coverage for the same price.

So because media mis-interpreted, that's T-Mobile's problem? At the end of the day, it's T-Mo making the offer, so it's their interpretation you need to understand, not NBC's.
Welcome to marketing. It's a common trick to put two things adjacent and let the reader's mind connect them. Happens all the time in marketing and politics.
What does afford have to do with anything? Why would anybody buy something outright if there is a zero percent interest offer and no other considerations? For instance, the iPad costs $629 for the entry level cellular model. Over two years, interest is likely to be about $50. Assuming I set my bank account up to pay the monthly payment automatically, I make fifty dollars just by holding on to my money.
So, as a T-Mobile customer, if I wanted a cellular iPad I would finance it.
In summary, if you finance the iPad and don't have an existing T-Mobile account, you will be required to pay for monthly service (and get an additional 200MB free).
If you pay for your iPad outright or bring your own iPad to T-Mobile, or choose to finance when you have an existing T-Mobile account, you get 200MB for free, no questions asked.
A little confusing, yes...
I'm a long time T-Mobile customer and I totally understand.
I was talking about Financing for new customers . we current customers can finance an iPad and get free data...
Actually, It was advertised that way on their web site (all weekend). I went to the T-mobile web site multiple times on Sat and Sun and read all the fine print.
Paid for tablet = free data
Financing through t-mobile = fee for non customers.
I was really looking forward to this all for when the iPad retina comes out later this month. I yelled at a few people (on here) for not listening reading the article correctly. I was pushing for T-Mobile. Glad I don't have to purchase an iPad from them any more.
I'm sure the execs over at AT&T were $**tting bricks last week and now they're sitting with their fat-bellies and hands in their pockets stuffed with money.
Now to decided what other carrier to go with.
Bah!
So I'm curious. Can't one purchase an iPad Air (or mini retina) through At&t's Next Payment installation plan and take it over to T-Mobile for free 200mb data (after $10 sim card fee)? or does AT&T force you to choose a plan as well?
Hmm...
It says in the article If you pay full price for the iPad the 200mb data is free.
I don't see anything misleading about it.
I have an iPad with cellular(verizon). Can I change to t-Mobile and get the free data?
Zero-interest, zero-down iPad; free 200MB of data per month for iPads
I was reading all these comments and I figured out the best approach for everyone is probably the Apple Store where:
- you can buy the iPad outright - any cellular model, they're all unlocked - , ask for a FREE T-Mobile SIM if yours does not come with the SIM pre-installed (say you buy Verizon or ATT iPad), register a new on-demand account on the iPad, and get 200MB free, without even having to enter a Credit Card number. Best of all, you get free Hotspot too, albeit with 200MB I'd be careful with this option. Still, can be a lifesaver I tried that approach yesterday and it works like a charm.
- you can apply for a Barclay's interest-free 12-month financing for a purchase over $500. You can even ask for help and do it on the computers there. As long as you pay the minimum payment per month (probably in the $10 range) and the rest by the end of the year, you're good. Then you do the same transaction as above, buy the iPad, get the T-Mobile SIM card, and off you go.
Note that if you can't buy the iPad outright and you get denied for credit, you shouldn't buy anything Apple. You have more serious problems to worry about...
Ok, I posted earlier that activation of the free data wasn't an issue. Spoke too soon. The gotcha is they have Parental Controls turned on by DEFAULT. I can't even view most of the webpages that I normally go through.
What's worse, in order to deactivate the parental controlsI need to have a T-Mobile number to sign in. So yep, I have to go to the T-Mobile store and get a T-Mobile number. I have a gimped, $1K tablet.
I'm taking this piece of crap back and will either just keep my WiFi iPad 2 or get an ATT iPad, but I'm almost out of contract with them and desperately want to get rid of them. So yeah. I'm pretty upset.![]()
You mean after they changed it? Because that's not what it said on Friday or before.
ETA. edited to add that I was just told by a CSR that I won't owe for a plan. Hopefully that is true.
i am all confused.
i ordered a sliver T-mobile version 64GB iPad Air at apple.com and picked it up at my local Apple store on Friday. Can't activate the SIM card came with it until Sunday night. I was not asked for CC information during the activation process and successfully activated at the end. 2 emails received after the activation. First one informs me the phone number assigned to my account and a password in case i need to contact them. 2nd email confirms a "Promotional Pass", which they called "Mobile Internet Starter Data" pass, with 200MB of high speed data for use until 12/02/2013.
Does this mean one only gets first month 200MB free? or WHAT?
PS: i am not a T-Mobile customer of any kind.
I was told by 2 different CSR's that I would not owe as well. Very emphatically and in no uncertain terms I was told tonight and Saturday when I signed up that I will have a $10 charge and a $10 credit on every bill.
I think it's possible that they are grandfathering in people who already bought and changing the deal for those after. They certainly aren't being clear.
Wait, what? They gave you a free T-Mobile SIM at the Apple store?
Posters in other threads have said that they're using T-Mobile SIMs in their Verizon iPad Airs. It's not going to work with older Verizon iPads.
