I think you can talk with apple about this, they list it as

iPhone 5s 16GB Gold (GSM) T-Mobile Unlocked
Purchase Information

$649.00

on the right side when you buy it.

Is the sprint version still gsm locked? Do i still need to call them to have the phone unlocked for international use or can I just pop in a sim card like on Verizon's iPhone 5s?

Time for one more?

Dawgy,

Can you check this one also?

This phone is also a 16GB T-mobile iPhone 5S, bought from the Apple store.

Thanks in Advance

is it possible that verizon 5s is unlocked outside the U.S but in the U.S it only works with verizon?
Anyone has an opinion on that?

I'm almost positive the Verizon 5S is unlocked for all GSM carriers regardless of location.

However, it's not clear to me whether activation with Verizon is necessary to unlocked the phone.

.

Funny that the Verizon one is unlocked at apple but this is not advertised as unlocked

The only reason it's unlocked is that Verizon agreed to unlock all their devices as a condition of one of their LTE licenses. They certainly don't like to advertise that fact.

[SOLVED] Unlock Strategies for T-Mobile iPhone 5s

Bought from T-Mobile direct/Authorized reseller: LOCKED for 40 days until request for unlock is allowed

Bought from Apple online/Apple Retail: Fully unlocked - IMEI added to whitelist.

Best,
Chris

Good work

Good work everyone!

Please return any fully paid for iPhone 5S bought from the T-Mobile store.

Need to send a message, that a phone a customer own's should not be locked.

Probably going to get charged a $50 re-stocking fee though.

The carrier strikes again.

But yeah guys, we're gonna have to wait on Apple to provide us with the real iPhones.

Looking back on this thread, I can't believe people actually thought that T-Mobile phones were unlocked.

This is the same troll momoruno who got banned just changed his screen name. Post #251

For those of you that also bought the previous models when they were offered in unlocked versions directly from Apple, those phones were always AT&T phones delivered with an AT&T sim in the slot. However, they were... as will be the t-Mobile 5S's completely unlocked upon arrival at your door.

I bought three 64G gold because I live (for now) in Thailand, I will pop my Thai AIS SIM in the slot and they will activate.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it......

THEY ARE UNLOCKED. People repeated posted evidence and reported that their Apple store bought T-Mobile iPhone 5S was unlocked.

I literally don't understand why you're trying to troll. Don't you have something better to do with your life?

just got back from The Grove. I waited 1 min in line, asked for a ATT and Verizon, paid FULL PRICE, the IMEI show unlocked.
I'll test them and keep you posted.

Any FULL PRICE 5s is UNLOCKED, just don't turn them on with the sim that came with them.

End of discussion.

Again, and again.

I already said it time and time again, we know there are ways to unlock your phone.

But WHEN will we be able to PURCHASE an unlocked phone???

You guys are driving me up a mad wall.

The T-Mobile contract-free phone directly from Apple is already factory unlocked.

Why can't you get this through your thick little head?

You're mental. Why do you insist on ignoring the countless people in this thread, phones in hand, who confirm that Apple Stores are selling fully unlocked phones? There are even IMEI numbers provided in the thread confirming this. Like this one from the post at the top of this very page you are reading right now.

You're just being loudly and stubbornly wrong at this point. Stop spreading misinformation.

I think it's now safe to assume he's a troll.

AGAIN, ATT and Verizon are unlocked, I have them in front of me and tested them.

They just have the carrier sims inside, that's all.

someone get rid of this troll please, the T-Mobile version is UNLOCKED when ordering from the Apple Store.

I bought an unlocked T-Mobile 5s online last night. From everything I've read, I'm confident that it will work just fine when I pop my AT&T sim in.

If it doesn't work for some reason, I can return it for a full refund, so there's really no risk involved.

Not as Apple.com states.

Use context clues, you have to read the whole paragraph:

"If you buy iPhone for T-Mobile, it will arrive with a nano-SIM card already installed that you can activate by visiting an Apple Retail Store or a T-Mobile store or by calling T-Mobile. [ONLY] When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5s from a local GSM carrier."

National carrier, T-Mobile.

International carrier, local carriers.

Sounds like locked nationally, unlocked internationally, which is a common one.

In which case, you will, again, have to contact T-Mobile to unlock your phone for international use.

To my knowledge, and I have always bought only unlocked versions for the last several years, all unlocked phones come with a carrier sim in the tray. Last year they were AT&T sims, and you could activate your phone using that sim if you choose. However; the phones are unlocked, soooo, if you remove the sim that came with the phone, lets say the T-mobile phones arriving next week, you simply remove their SIM, insert any GPS sim from any country, activate your phone and your good to go. Thats your explanation, you really need to accept it and move on. If your proven correct next week, you can come back and make your point.
