These are the speeds I am seeing in NYC on ATT. The very top is with LTE while the second from the top is from HSPA+. The city is blanketed with both so I am beyond happy. Especially given I was previously with Sprint and had a 4S on their network which was beyond a horrible experience.

T-Mobile has the best service in my area...and I've tried them all.

Same. I broke my Verizon contract in January because they were so bad. All I got at home was the big O and no 3G and dropped calls. Sole the phone on eBay with a bad ESN for $375.

I also broke my AT&T contract last month after renewing in January to get a new 4S. I had enough when it took 10 minutes to download one song from iTunes. I unlocked the 4S two weeks after buying and tried T-Mobile. Was so surprised to get 6-10Mbps that I cancelled the AT&T contract and ported my # over.

T-Mobile is now the best carrier I have ever been on.

Glad to see the speed tests! thanks to everyone who is sharing. I am debating switching. But speed would be my decision. I get 30+ mb in nyc with my 5. But If I keep seeing fast test's on t-mobile maybe I will switch over in a few years :p

For all those complaining about T-Mobile 2G only coverage, keep in mind that the new T-Mobile specific iPhone should fix this issue, as it has T-Mobile's AWS bands as well.

Unless you live in an area with actual Edge coverage. T-Mobile generally has good coverage in urban areas but not so much outside of them.

what you call complaining, I see it as members actually contributing and helping out the community. most are aware of the new bands of the T-mobile's iPhone but some can't afford to simply go get one. have some perspective.

If you plan to buy a phone every year, then one assumes that you will sell the phone on ebay and then continue the installment for the new phone. If you assume no value at the end of each year, of course a company that sells you the phone and charges lower monthly premiums will never work for you.

There are several things I would consider before switching.

....
4. T-mobile is a bad value if you decide to upgrade your phone every year. Here's why: the plan will only pay off if you keep the same phone for over 2 years, if you pay the full price subsidy for your phone every one year, it's a complete wash in terms of money saved by switching.

I really considered switching from Verizon to T-mobile to save about $50/mo. After being realistic with myself and actually doing the math, it was a total wash, based upon upgrading my phone every year. Even if you upgrade every two years, the year that you upgrade is a wash.

Also keep in mind your sanity. Is it worth saving the money if your getting dropped/missed calls/spotty service/poor data speeds?? T-mobile has a lot to prove still.

So why be so secretive about the city's name? Just name it already...

Exactly.

"Oh I live in a 200,000+ population city with ONLY Edge on T-Mobile!"

What city is it?

"It's one of those 200,000+ cities without 3G/4G! Duh!"

Sounds like baloney to me. I bet he's on T-Mobile's coverage map trying to find an Edge area and looking up populations on Google.

Sounds pretty elaborate. What would he have to gain by going through all the trouble of looking at the coverage map, and then Google city populations, simply to post in a thread about why someone thinks T-Mobile is fantastic.

Don't need to. I have my reasons.

I've been a T-mobile customer for well over 8 years. Of course it's "baloney" because I have some secret agenda against them.

Just so this isn't taken out of context; my responses were relative to getting only 2G speeds on a NON T-mobile iPhone.

Oh that makes sense then. I was like there's no way they have a city of 200,000 still without 3G access. Yeah the refarmed 3G coverage still sucks, probably will take them until the end of the year before it's good enough to rely on.

OMG guys, I must admit this time tmobile nailed it right (at least here I. s. Florida, Miami).

Recently in the last couple of months I have had to switch back & forth from tmobile prepaid service to an AT&T MVNO mostly due to its lack of signal and building penetration. Considering and adding to the equation were the facts that I was using an unlocked iPhone 4S (which doesn't support the AWS band)...

But with my new iPhone 5, tmobile is a keeper. I have been able to keep constant 3G/4G signal almost anywhere I have gone today and even inside buildings where my previous iPhone 4S would drop to edge and with out any problems or dropped calls. I'm so happy, kudos tmobile and their iPhone 5 (my iPhone 5 :))

I guess Florida coverage is pretty good I'm by Tampa and I also get 4g in places I didn't . Very pleased. Of course it being cheaper doesn't hurt either.

Coverage in Tampa is pretty awesome, especially at my house. I can actually make a phone unlike with AT&T, I used to have to step outside. The data speeds are pretty impressive as well.

Made the switch to T-Mobile today from Sprint. Oh boy, my speeds are SO much better than before. I got around 0.7Mbps on Sprint, now I get this on just 3G:

In case anyone is wondering, this is in Los Angeles, CA. More precisely San Pedro, CA.

I'm sure you know this, but you haven't applied the carrier update. If you want to, go to settings->general->about and then it'll pop up. If your jail broken, it won't affect the jailbreak. You need to do this to get features like visual voicemail, 4G icon, and emergency alerts.
