I called did you see my response above? Try giving them a call and see if you get the same answer as it would benefit all of us.

I would like to be able to call and find out, but I don't want to put my order in until I know the deal is what I'm looking for. If this isn't truly the case, I would rather buy it right from the Apple store.

It would be encouraging to hear somebody else confirm your findings, though!

I'm showing that I'll be getting a bill credit of $10 for the on-demand plan. I believe in their FAQ they said that existing customers would get a $10 bill credit, therefore making the 200mb free. /shrug

Does that mean that you have to be a T-Mobile phone customer to receive that credit?

Where is it showing that you will be getting the $10 bill credit - just the info from the FAQ?

I think the 200mb of data is free for everyone.

If you want to finance the iPad with them, you have to be a customer, hence getting on some sort of plan (10$/mo).

I am not a T-Mobile customer::

This is the information I got through chat support. Take it for what it's worth, I guess:

Jennifer: Hi. I'm a T-Mobile chat specialist. Is there anything I can help you find?
You: yes, there was a press release from t mobile saying that we could get free 200mb of data per month with the iPad air, yet i'm not seeing that here
Jennifer: Thank you for visiting T-Mobile! I would be happy to provide you with information regarding the Apple iPad Air today.
Jennifer: With our $10 On Demand plan, you will get a free200MB of hi speed data already included.
Jennifer: May I ask if you have already selected your iPad Air and plan?
You: i have not put an order in yet
You: the information you just sent me is directly contradicting the information that is listed in the t mobile press release located here:
You: http://newsroom.t-mobile.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=251624&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1867397&
Jennifer: Not a problem! Let's go ahead and get our item and plan set up with the On Demand data plan to take advantage.
You: basically, it doesn't say anything about being charged $10 per month, it says it's completely free - how do i select that?
Jennifer: It should automatically add the plan to your account. If you are able to enter the secure checkout it has been added.
You: the only plan i am seeing is costing $10 per month for the on demand, when that press release says it is supposed to be free 200mb data per month for life
Jennifer: It is a free 200MB of hi speed included with this plan for life. You also get unlimited 2G data with the $10.
You: can you show me in that press release where it says anything about it costing $10? $10 isn't free
Jennifer: Yes, one moment as I find the paragraph.
You: Thank you, very much, I appreciate it
Jennifer: Certainly! In the second to last paragraph it states "Free data every 30 days with qualifying Mobile Internet account on eligible device."
Jennifer: It doesn't state enough on the pricing of the qualifying plan, and needs to be updated.
You: Ok, Jennifer, thanks for your help!
Jennifer: You are welcome. I apologize that we are clear enough about the free 200MB.

No $10 fee on prepaid.

I have 200 MB this month to be able to use and it is working out just fine. No extra fees and no credit card at all! This is pretty awesome. T-mobile is working out on my end.

Right, I believe if you were to buy your iPad at full retail the data would be free. IF you want to finance with the EIP and you are not an existing customer they would charge you the $10.

It makes sense. They have to make money somehow.

After going through the whole sign-up process, I believe the person above is correct. To finance the iPad, it requires a T-Mobile account which starts at $10. If you buy an iPad from the Apple Store and pay for it in full, you can get the free 200mb data for free without signing up for any further plan.

+10!! Thank you so much for posting this!!!!

I posted two similar chats in another thread that I had with a TMO rep regarding this BEFORE today so people would at least be on their guard for extra monthly charges and people kept disregarding it.
My ultimate question was the same as your last sentence, where is the profit for them if they just gave away data? You NEED some sort of plan, plain and simple. And here it is now in black and white....again thanks for you post...

What story did you receive?

I called and asked the same questions as before and the rep told me you have to have some sort of plan with them and I again explained that I could add this to verizon for $10 a month. The rep said sorry but you need some sort of plan with us.

I also asked if I bought the iPad outright from apple is it still $10 a month and they said yes. I attempted to cancel and he said its on backorder and may not be able to be cancelled... SO I WILL REFUSE THE UPS DELIVERY....

Disappointed....

Just spoke with a customer service rep on the phone from T-Mobile.

She was unclear but said that she needed to read an email that had just come in as this program was a new launch.

She then confirmed that if you bought your T-mobile iPad Air that there would be no $10 monthly plan. You would get 200mb free per month with no extra charge and you would pay for any additional data on top of the zero charged 200mb if you chose to.

She said I was the first call on it and some of the other reps might have been confused about the $10 monthly charge because they didn't read the email that they just received.

Hope that helps with any confusion.

you can call yourself to confirm 1-800 T Mobile

If they are confused ask them to look at their emails for the launch of this new program.

Well they are wrong. If you bought it outright from Apple it is not still $10 a month. That is only for people that want to finance through T-Mobile through the EIP who are NOT existing T-Mo customers. I think you just got a misinformed rep.

Considering grabbing one atm and I have to agree it is stupidly confusing. I'm a current T-mo customer and the checkout clearly says $10 a month. How am I supposed to know a credit will/may be applied to my account?

Calm down people......it's still early and it may be a glitch on the website or the possibly the wrong plan was picked (ie picked postpaid instead of prepaid).

Remember with the iPhone 5S, 99.9 % of APPLE EMPLOYEES are saying they don't sell unlocked 5S yet but we know that's not the case.

Normally I'm all for staying calm, but it is clear now is the time to freak out and start setting fires.

Searching twitter yields many people who can confirm this: if you don't use tmobile for your phone or pay for the iPad in full the "free" data is $10 a month.

Back to wifi only for me.

There should have been a box somewhere in the order process that stated you will be receiving a $10 bill credit.

Even just trying to purchase a SIM for my iPad 3 on the TMobile site has the $10 monthly fee and 99 cents for the SIM for the 'free' data.

I'm not a TMobile phone customer. I have a TMobile iPad Air waiting for pickup at the Apple Store but if the pricing isn't clear in the next few hours and in line with what they've been saying, I'll have to switch that to a WiFi or AT&T model.

Same here. Shows a credit. I have an iphone 5 with them BTW.

Turned off the iPad, replaced the SIM card with the data T-Mobile SIM. Turned on the iPad, turned off Wi-Fi, and it found the T-Mobile LTE Cell. I then went into settings, cellular data, view account. It then asked if I wanted to activate, put in my info and that was it! Very quick and easy.

I purchased the $.99 Broadband Sim with free shipping, don't know if the free SIMS will also work.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered the same thing and will buy the ipad locally.

The confusion over the $10 and free seems to be if you want to but from T-Mobile and do the payment.

I will just add the SIM and get the real free data

This.

I bought my Tmobile iPad from Apple..no $10 sim fee. They are not going to finance an iPad without you picking up a plan. If you own your tablet outright then the 200mb is free. If you finance you must have a plan.

Latest chat, if you are a non-tmobile customer, even if you pay the whole amount for your i-pad you have to sign up for a $10 plan. Crooks i say

Are you a t-mobile cutomer?

When you have the ipad in your cart you can switch to an option where you pay the full ipad price right up front and they still charge $10/month. So i'm not so sure about that.

Just activated my iPad Air and signed up (on the ipad) for a tmobile account. Gave me the $0 200mb plan by default and is working. Have not yet selected any additional data
