I don't get it: Do you guys really expect TMobile to give you FREE financing AND FREE Data?

It's simple:

-Pay outright for an LTE Tmobile iPad and you'll get 200mb FREE

-Finance through Tmobile for an iPad and if you're not a Tmobile customer you'll pay $10 per month for 200mb.

How else do you expect them to make a profit - or worse you running off with their tablet (yes it's theirs since you're financing).

Stop whining about getting free stuff and just go buy a full price iPad. Simple.

So I'm ordering a sim online right now, they are free.

What happens after the 200mb? How do they charge you if you don't have an account with them. Or how do you buy extra data if you don't have an account?

After the 200mb your data speeds are severely slowed. If you want extra data you are going to have to create an account.

So then I'd have to do a 10$ a month account? I'm fine with them slowing it to a crawl, its free so if I used it all and it cuts me off, fine. I just don't want to sign up for a monthly fee. On the other hand, I'd like to purchase data from them from time to time, but wasn't sure if that's possible if I don't have a "plan".

What you say makes sense, if it wasn't advertised another way. I'm perfectly fine with a wifi iPad or paying for it outright, but since TMobile advertised it a certain way I figured I'd try them out. If they would have advertised you had to do a 10$ plan up front, noone would care. Instead, they tried to get people interested in getting the iPad from TMobile by not telling you the whole truth.

Yes, that's what people expected and I tried with all my might through posts with chats with a TMO specialist about this TWO days ago, and simple business logic (where is TMO's profit), and people kept disregarding it. People were saying things like "I wouldn't listen to a chat specialist, they don't know much", or "I bet $ to donuts it'll be free like Tmobile said". I even made an example of someone getting an ipad on financing and paying it off in, say, 6 months. People really believed that after they paid it off they would still get the free data. What does TMO get after you've paid off your ipad? I just sat back and watched what would happen, and well, here we are...

No need to get angry about it when T-Mobile promoted it as free.

And maybe, just maybe, T-Mobile's profit is in the fact that they would have had many users who never would have considered their network upgrading phones over the next two years. Those users stop and say "T-Mobile is pretty good for my iPad, I'm going to upgrade my my next phone away from AT&T/Verizon iPhone."

You can setup an account in Settings->Cellular. Just for future members information...

I'm not angry at all. Yes, they promoted it as free, but one has to stop and think, what's the catch? Why aren't other carriers doing this? And saying they're greedy is not enough of an answer. Every other carrier charges some kind of monthly fee for the ipad if you're financing it (whether they are giving free data or not). The point was everyone heard the words free data and didn't want to hear anything else even though it was common business sense that something else is going on there that is NOT completely advertised.
How is TMO making money if they are just giving away data to anyone with an iPad (some not bought from them by the way), or people financing the ipad knowing they can pay it off whenever?

Using common sense I did not expect to get free financing and free data... but their announcement strongly implied that was what they were offering. My only complaint is that T-Mobile was strongly misleading.

T-mobile put out a press release with the following:

"T-Mobile Un-leashes iPad Air Nov. 1 Starting at $0 Down - with Free Data for Life"

"When you buy a product as amazing as iPad, you should be able to connect when and where you want, simply and affordably," said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. "By offering free data for life with incredible upfront pricing, T-Mobile is un-leashing customers to fully enjoy iPad as it was meant to be enjoyed - mobile and connected."

WTF am I supposed to think they wee offering? Yes, it sounded like a fantastic deal. But plenty of companies offer great deals upfront to get customers "in the door". Its not like they were potentially giving away free iPads, just $0 down/free financing. Best Buy, furniture stores, etc. have interest free financing on a daily basis.

T-Mobile pulled a bait & switch at worst and had a really poorly worded press release at best. Go out on Google & see how many blogs & mainstream media outlets all reported $0 down/no interest AND 200MB free for life.

So many people cannot be all seeing this incorrectly.

Exactly.

What I wonder is has anyone said anything to TMO about their misleading ad and what their response is. I've been googling all morning and I guess it's not that big of a stink yet...

Most of the credit monitoring agencies offer "free credit report". Do you really believe anything in life is "free". There is no such thing as a "free dinner" either. Credit monitoring agencies will charge you 3 times the cost of a single credit report every month. Same goes for the satellite TV systems. Discounted for 6 months, nothing down, fine print say normal rates after 6 months and a contract period of 24 months.

So many people cannot be wrong.

"T-Mobile is un-leashing customers to fully enjoy iPad", it does say customers and reports to that affect have been confirmed.

Yep. Some even offer 0% interest and no payment for the first 6/12/18/24 months. Heck, you can get 0% APR financing on Apple, Amazon and Newegg. Granted, goes up to some insanely high APR after afterwards so you definitely want to may sure you're paid in full before the term is up.

You get cut off and you're allowed the option of buying more data/upgrading plans or waiting it out til the next month. If you buy more data be wary you're signing up for pre-paid... I think there IS an option to go Post Paid within the system.

Yeah T-Mobile is messed up. I'm just going back to my original plan, use my iPhone 5s as a hotspot when I need to use my iPad.

Sigh...well at least I know there is hope since people like you are still trying to help ungrateful entitled people to understand. But honestly I think we're just talking to walls here. I give up - preparing for the end of civilization now lol.

All jokes aside, I wonder every day how some people get through life without being able to understand simple concepts like this. Or even the ones blindly sticking by AT&T's (or god forbid Sprint's) side as they continue to rob them and keeps bashing on Tmobile when they're actually trying to make a difference in the wireless industry.

Now if I buy a T mobile iPad will I be able to use Verizon LTE later on? I'm thinking of getting the VZ iPad but I have to wait to next week for the T mobile sim card to arrive.

T-Mobiles press release said it. They are a joke company. talk about bait and switch.

I don't care about their profit motives or what not. Don't offer the deal if you can't deliver.

I would have bought one for $26 a month and of course there would be times I would go over 200mb. They would get revenue they would otherwise never see.

I expect T-mobile to deliver what they said would. such deception.
