I pay around $18 per line with unlimited everything, and no taxes to add in on T-Mobile, and I just pay monthly.
The price is based on how many lines you add. More lines, less $ per line; less lines, higher $ per line.Nice price.
so if I went with T-Mobile in the US, would it only cost me $18.00 / month for everything and no taxes ?

I saw a post on Reddit that said You need to cancel it before 8PM tonight to qualify for the free year. And if I already have an Athletic sub?

We can’t watch sports.
i chatted with TMO on twitter and they said that it's for new subs only. in theory you can sign up under a new email address. i canceled my current sub but since i pay yearly, it's valid til next Feb.
so i'll probably sign up under another email address to get the free year, and let my other sub expire in feb.

If T-Mobile did MLB and NHL, that would be fantastic. It's a great deal. It's only for the current season. Each year they renew it a the T-Mobile Tuesday promo.
Since T-Mobile is getting into the NHL, I was hoping we'd get a NHL TV promo but I guess NBC has that too locked down.

80 players tested positive for COVID-19 today there isn’t going to be any baseball this season.
They have had this promo for at least the last 4 years. So it willinclude the entire shortened season but in the past it hasn't included the playoffs since those are nationally televised.
Timely when the season is short this year and might very well not even finish due to COVID.
I'm not sure how it works, but in the past (I'm not sure if it was 2 or 3 years ago), I was able to watch the Indians Playoff games using the MLB TV app through the T Mobile deal. I didn't pay anything extra (that I remember) to do it. Maybe there was some kind of difference back then, but at one point it was available (unless I paid for something else that I don't remember).
Oh, wow! Let me waste more of my life watching grown men run around in circles chasing their balls!
Professional sports: meh.

But I'll pass on pro sports on my phone.
Using a VPN will get you around that problem.Funnily enough, earlier this year I was thinking about subscribing to The Athletic, but the COVID-19 hit and there wasn't much in the way of sports happening. However I've seen several examples of very good sportswriting come from that site.
The free mlb.tv is a theoretical perk; but, with baseball's stone-age blackout rules - in practice it's not worth much. I'd happily pay the local sports carriage fee (which is under $10) on top of subscribing to mlb.tv; but there's no way I'm paying $70 more a month to comcast just to get the local MLB cable channel.
