Hmm now only ATT is the only one who doesn't offer an adhoc Unlimited plan.

I don't consider it fair to get "Unlimited" when it requires an additional purchase -- they're the only ones who truly do NOT have an unlimited phone-only offering.

I can't move. I do not like the options that involve the devices. I found a weird catch that allows me multiple EIP on one line. Right now I'm paying for a 6s and a 7+. I'll be trading in the 7+ for the 7s(8) or an Android in December.

The newest JUMP on demand makes me return a device to get a new one.

While it's lucrative, I like being able to keep paying on one phone I want to keep, trading in one I don't, or trading them both in for two new ones!

My situation is weird though, probably not very common.
We accidentally did this. I say accidentally because I had no idea about it when I ordered a new phone. I assumed I had to pay the previous phonenoff in full. I ended up selling the previous phone for $500 and I am still paying it off (they unlocked it for me too but that was due to a glitch that may still be present) plus I still get $12 a month credit towards that payment which I wouldn't have had. In other words they essentially paid me to lease that phone when all is said and done.

All that said I can see why they don't want that if they've changed things and can't really blame them. I don't think these plans were ever designed to allow multiple leases/payment plans on one line.

AT&T really needs to step up their game

They're the most expensive, don't offer tethering, you have to have a TV sub, and no HD video (right?)

Wtf
Their "Stream Saver" is enabled by default but can be disabled for free. I do want tethering though, it's the biggest thing for me. Don't care about the TV sub personally as I have it anyway.

If it works for you, that's great. T-Mobile has always been awful in my area and Verizon has always been the best of the big 4 (tried all 4 a year ago). The unlimited data outside of North America is 2G which is unusable so it's not really a selling point to me.
My friend was just in Japan this past summer and felt it more than usable. He went thinking he'd have to buy a sim and ended up not needing to. Sure, he wasn't streaming video, but for looking up where to go and how to get there it worked fine. He was even sending pictures back and forth via google hangouts with me sharing his experience.

As you say, to each their own.

Yeah. I think once people caught on, that's when they moved to JUMP on Demand. I could get more tethering but I don't use it. I could pay less without the $12 JUMP insurance but Applecare + doesn't cover theft so I'll buy insurance anyways.

For me, it's just an easier way to keep my technology fix and try new phones.

I would switch if I can but I got my iPhone 7 plus 256gb on discount only if I do it on installment, comes out to $600 after 24mos

I just changed my Verizon plan today for one iPhone 7 from the 12 GB (XL plan) to Unlimited. The unlimited plan costs $65 plus $40 for the "line access fee" plus taxes. I'll save $15 a month.

Where does the $20 "device fee" mentioned in the article come from?
I switched today as well and the unlimited w/ fees is like $88, tho I still have my phone payment which is like $34 monthly, but previous just the data plan itself was $90 for me....

That's funny - it was perfectly usable when I have used it for the past dozen or so trips overseas. Works fine for maps, emails, texts, web browsing, even voice calls over Whatsapp, etc. If you are addicted to instant gratification and can't wait an extra few seconds for things to load, you can just buy an LTE pass.

Me and my wife will be sticking to Verizon after the new announcement. We were considering ATT, but they're an absolute **** show here along with TMO.

So I wonder if AT&T is still on "GO" for it's $5 increase on grandfathered plans next month. $5 more plus no tethering it's making it hard not to switch. Still usure if this is VZW us baiting people to switch then will cancel the plan when 5G comes out and push everyone on expensive data bucket plans.

If ATT had not already said those of us that were grandfathered were for life it would be a no brainer.

BTW anyone know if you bring your unlocked world phone to VZW if you still have to pay an activation fee with this plan? When I bought my phone ATT did not charge me an activation fee since I just switch out the SIM.
I hated ATT&T and I wanted the iPhone 7. Was grandfathered but I didn't like that I would be throttled and didn't like the impending increases for us. I paid about $89 a month. Switched to T-Mobile for the new iPhone. Well I did not know once you factor in the Voice onto the $70... plus the monthly device fee, you are well above $100. Switched to a 10gb plan since I do not use much data and got a corporate discount. Morale of the story... you decide LOL.

I would switch to Verizon and dump att but my iPhone 7 plus won't work with their network. Not worth the hassle to rebuy a new phone and take a loss on the att iPhone. I guess I'll wait until the next iPhone to make a change

Dump the 10gb tethering limits and throttling after 28gb, and I'm in, T-Mo. #unlikely

I have the unlimited AT&T plan and needed tethering so I added a ZTE Mobley. Its a connected car device which is eligible to be added. Works pretty well, its main negative is lack of carrier aggregation but its fast enough for streaming and browsing.

I am looking forward to the chance to drop it and use my phone if it becomes an option though. Saves a device fee.

Actually, the newest JUMP on Demand plan will allow you to keep your existing device, as long as you pay it off in full - and then you can get a new one. (The new one will start a whole new JUMP on Demand plan with another 18 months of payments to pay it off.)

I did this when I wanted to jump to a new iPhone 7+ from my 6s I was still leasing.
It was a bit confusing, because when you call in, they tell you that payoff transaction can only be handled in a store or a T-Mobile kiosk. But at the store, I was initially told they couldn't do it and I might have to call in!

Eventually, the sales rep. figured out where there was some place on his computer terminal to check-mark the right option to do it, though. So I paid out the lease, using my credit card, and then got the new 7+. Better deal than trading the old phone back in, since I got more for it on eBay.

Debating whether to switch to the new T-Mobile One from my current simple Choice unlimited plan. I would pay less with Tmobile One, but curious about how the HD works on T-Mobile One video playback. I don't want to have to go to tmobile app to enable HD video passes every day.
I'm on the same boat. I wasn't impressed with the previous offering because the lack of HD and low speed tethering. if I'm switching I'm gonna lose 4gig of tethering but saving few more bucks I'm ok with it. I would love to know too if I don't need to enable HD every single day. Let me know when you find out.

If you live, work, and generally stay in major metro areas, T-mobile offers great performance especially for the price. I've had no issues with them since I switched a few years ago from Verizon and haven't missed much and have more money in my pocket.

I'm currently on an older plan with 2 lines, one unlimited, one with 2gb and pay $120. I'd be foolish to pass this up it seems. I'll probably switch my account over on Friday to save some money and get more features.

As a T-Mobile customer, while I think this is good, I still question what they'll do with VPN traffic on that tethered data and if it will be de-prioritized as it was before. When T-Mobile "upgraded" my simple choice plan to unlimited w/10gb tethering, while it supposedly was regular 4G data, all VPN connections were throttled to almost nothing (maybe 1mbps). On top of that even regular web browsing was slower then before. Until I see it in writing that VPN traffic won't be throttled or "prioritized" (doubtful to me) I'll be staying put since I have to have VPN access for work. Why they throttle VPNs when the tethering data is limited anyways is beyond me (I can understand it on the device itself to stop "nefarious" use, but still don't like it).
