People Weren't Looking For A Free Lunch

You guys are missing the point. It's not that people thought they could get a free phone. It's that people thought they could get the phone and make payments, no matter which provider they used the phone on. For instance, I get a phone with T-Mobile and get service. Later, I decide to go to another carrier. People thought they could continue making payments and move to another carrier. Since they can't, it's false advertising. The Un-Contract plan has all of the pitfalls of a contract plan.

T-Mobile to Change 'Deceptive' No-Contract Ads, Offer Refunds

Seems like those people should have just used a credit card to buy an unlocked iphone instead of trying to get over on t mobile. There still a business why would they sell you an iphone you can take somewhere else lol makes no sense pay it off and you can do what you want with it.

The ones I have seen on TV allow you to use the bids as part of payment to purchase the item bid on immediately after the auction. That wasn't in the TV ad, but was clear in the sites FAQ info. So if up don't bid on stuff you won't buy it's nota scam at all.

Since they advertise that you can _buy_ items at much less than retail price (MBP for £21.16 for example), people going to these sites would bid on stuff with the intent to buy it for the price that was advertised. And since they can't, it's a scam. Or do they refund bids to people who are not buying?

If I go to an Apple store, they advertise an MBP for £999, and I have the choice of buying one for £999, or leaving the store with all my money still in my pocket. Same for any reputable store. These sites advertise that you can buy at an absurdly low price which you can't, and then you have the choice of buying at full price or giving them some of your money anyway. Scam.

When the two years is up, you don't continue to pay the monthlies you paid before. The phone is paid for, unlike others where you continue to pay the elevated fee.

Not sure if this was you who said this, but, if it was, are you saying it's only benficial to the consumer after the first two years when the phone is paid off?

Not really. You can just buy it outright in cash and move wherever you want (i.e. AT&T, since they are the only other carrier it would work on).
