That's not true. They've bought a significant chunk of 700A (Band 12) license in the continental US. It takes time to deploy, though, and the FCC isn't speedy at approving paperwork.

What state are you in?

You can always check http://maps.spectrumgateway.com/t-mobile-700-mhz-spectrum.html to see what the status of 700 MHz (the low-band airwaves used by VZ and ATT that give excellent coverage in rural areas and outdoors) is.
I am in Indiana... Fort Wayne area. I was being quasi-sarcastic, but it can be frustrating to have Only one viable option out where I live and work.

Fort Wayne should be blanketed.

What kind of phone do you have? If you use an iPhone on T-Mobile, you can only use 6s forwards. iPhone 6 doesn't support Band 12.... iPhone 6s does. When I'm in Detroit, I can be in an area that shows no signal on my 6 Plus, and usable signal on my 6s Plus. That's Band 12 doing its job.

I see there is no Band 12 in Fort Wayne... yet. But they're constantly improving Bands 4 and 2. There are parts of Toledo I didn't have coverage in three months ago I do now. How long ago did you try the service?

TIP: Go buy a SIM card at Best Buy for $4.99. You can put it in your phone and run Speedtests/check coverage without even activating it. Check it from time to time.

Pokémon Go isn't really a data hog. Battery hog, sure, but data consumption is fine. I'm level 13 and have used 66 MB of data so far.

My real issue with this promotion however is that it goes against net neutrality.

I disagree. T-Mobile has a data cap for high speed data (the rest is unlimited).

T-Mobile is giving users the ability to exercise the offer. It isn't favoring some traffic over other traffic based on back end deals customers have no say over.

I dont think T Mobile is here thinking about any net neutrality steps, this is viral marketing thats all.

T-Mobile is incredible at coming up with popular and hard to criticize ways of destroying net neutrality. If you criticize this, you look like you're fighting against Pokemon Go, the most popular mobile game ever made.

There have been a whole 2 Pokémon articles today, it's not that bad.
There are a lot of other things to read.

lol it only used about 32 mb in the last 4 days on my device

also can we talk about their horrible servers??? been at the park for the last two hours and no ones game is working properly. there were like 60 people that kept on closing the damn app cuz it kept on freezing every time you caught a Pokemon
IDK, I've never had problems with the game.

5+hours/day of Pokemon...
This world is really f¥€ked up...
Please stop with the poke rumors..

Let's see. This is 5 hours of day that I am walking and doing exercise. Let's see. It's hundreds of additional calories that I had burnt and added to my Apple Watch. What I do with my time has no bearing on you.

This is exactly what's wrong with this world. What others do has NO impact on your life. People always complain that kids are fat and lazy and sit around and play video games. This is now getting those kids up and out of the house and actually moving. So keep your unneeded rude comments to yourself. Stop judging others.

Exactly. It hurts T-Mobile in no way to offer it as it's very little they're giving away and in return I'm sure plenty will jump ship or stay with them because they consider this move far larger than it really is.

Burning calories...LOL
That's what's wrong with people these days. They think that burning calories is the most important thing that they should be doing all they long...

By the way, burning calories playing Pokémon is probably the least effective way. Plus there are way more fun ways of burning calories, such as having sex.

I agree.

At its surface, whitelisting would seem to go against net neutrality. But whitelisting effectively increases the data that can be used for non whitelisted services.

T-Mobile's whitelisted services include T-Mobile itself, Pokemon Go, 40+ music streaming, 80+ video streaming, iOS App Store, and various speed tests.

My family plan has 6GB per line, which is needed to qualify for free video streaming and roll over data (capped at 20GB). Whitelisting greatly decreased month data usage to a point I stopped caring about data usage. My family uses FaceTime video all the time, I stream podcasts whenever I want, my wife uploads big video clip to Vimeo all the time -- none of which are whitelisted.

Wow, again being judgmental. Learn to worry about yourself and not others. There is nothing, I repeat nothing wrong with going for a walk. I have an indoor cycle that I use in the mornings and I go for a walk every single night. It does not concern you on how people choose to burn their calories. Let people live their own lives and do what they want to do. Seriously, stop being a jerk.

can you try catching one right now? literally 60 people were at the park and it didnt work for anyone. freezes as soon as you have the pokemon in the ball. been like that for the last 4h

While I agree with you in principle, I think in that last statement you meant, "Others should be allowed to do that which has no impact on your life." Because plenty of what others do--not necessarily gaming--DOES have an impact on his life, my life, and others, and in the last week I've even been impacted by people playing Pokemon and not necessarily in a good way. But just because of that I wouldn't assume that everyone who does play it is going to be a jerk about it, and I'd think it wasn't nice of the other poster to assume that in your five hours of daily playing you're not going to be inconsiderate to others.

Thank you, you are right. I spend most of my time at the beach or the park, off the road, and not in the way of others. Sitting down at a bench, walking around the park, or up and down the coast. There are millions of players that are not getting in the way of others and just trying to enjoy their game. Them keeping to themselves and does not harm the person I quoted in the least.

Good for you doing all the walking, but don't try to tell me that playing 5hours of Pokemon a day is a healthy habit. Not even if you are eating kale while you are playing it. You are contradicting yourself. This is bad for you body and for your brain. I can assure you that.

I'm sorry, did I once say it was a healthy habit? I do believe I said that its better than sitting around all day playing other types of video games, but no where did I say it is healthy. I am a law student, I sit in a classroom or library 80+ hours a week, like many students, (k-12, undergrad and grad) it is now summer. Getting out of the library or classroom for 5 hours a day and enjoying outside while catching a Pokemon here and there is a nice break. And from the sound of it, you have not played it. You are not physically on your phone for 5hrs. You get to a location, you put the device in your pocket and it will vibrate if there is a Pokemon nearby. The phone is not glued to my face.

They keep doing all these really cool things... except making their network better. At the end of the day, the gimmicks don't help improve coverage. Or get the service to work indoors. Yes, this is just my experience in my area. YMMV.
I can respect and understand your frustration. But one shouldn't assume that just because their own area hasn't improved, neither has anyone else's.

We just drove from MA to CA and I was in utter shock at how good the network was. We didn't have any real issues until we hit Utah, which is more or less a dead spot. With the way people talk about tmobile outside of cities I was worried we wouldn't even be able to handle GPS without downloaded maps. We streamed videos and music 90% of the time.

That said, this means nothing to you since it apparently sucks wherever you live, work, or okay. Here's to hoping it gets better. When I first tried them three years ago the network was unusable around Boston. I can say that I know for a fact that they built that region out, and while they could still improve, for what we are laying it is more than great.

Do you play the game? Very few people are actually actively playing for five hours a day. And that's not even the point of the game.

I didn't read your full back and forth, but I think it's crystal clear kids and even adults are much less active these days than they used to be decades ago. The app certainly isn't making people less active and less healthy, on average.

This promotion has no point when T-Mobile servers are horrendous. I have a 20% chance of catching Pokemon and beating Gyms before the game freezes on me.
I think your issue is with the Pokemon go servers. And the issues with those servers is that there are roughly 10000% more
Players than I think was anticipated.

I just read an article that Pokemon go usage has surpassed porn. I don't know that anything has ever done that lol.

Idiots are driving while playing this game. Its a game that is leading to irresponsible behavior that is resulting in property damage and medical costs.
Perhaps. In guessing drunk driving and even texting and calling while driving still top the issues this game has produced.

They've made is such that traveling faster than 15mph effectively negates any advancement in the game. At the end of the day People will be stupid if given the chance.
