Excellent. Thank you for the tips! I went ahead and used a website called video grabby as well as an app called turbodl. Worked great, the only caveat being that the files need to be played within the turbodl app. Are you aware of a way to move the files, or otherwise get them to be recognized, by the Preondtslled video app?

I don't think that you can do that without a computer or without a jailbreak.

Dear T-Mobile,

Add Plex to this list and I will lover you forever.

Sincerely,

LOLobo

Doesn't Plex just feed videos from your home storage?

Thank you. I had a feeling, but wasn't sure.

And yes, pled works exactly how you described. Would be best if we could opt in with tmo on our personal plex, kodi, etc servers. Maybe that's coming, though I doubt it.

same tweet blast did confirm existing 10GB customers will get the binge feature. So it just looks like they stop at 10GB total in their plans. We are paying 5GB for 10 anyway so just got this plan 'earlier' I guess.
I have 20Gb and just signed up yesterday.

Yes, but that storage is accessible from loccations outside you local network via the iOS app.

Right. I guess it wouldn't be any different having T-Mobile compress a video from your local machine versus something hosted on Netflix, for example. As far as I know, Slingbox would be similar, which T-Mobile does support.

Now only if that response was actually relevant in 2015.

Sorry, but the only people to whom that response is irrelevant are T-Mobile fanboys and John Legere's cheerleaders. While I appreciate the fact that, as a result of Legere's antics, I'm paying a lower monthly bill, T-Mobile simply cannot compete on coverage with the big two. If they could, no antics would be necessary.

I was aware of no sideloading. What I am looking for is a way to download youtube videos without a jailbreak. I realize I can do this on PC and then just sync videos. I was hoping there was a way to do this directly from the device.

I am interestng in loading videos for my son "semi on the fly". But if it takes jailbreaking, syncing with a PC (I already do this for trips), etc. it doesn't help me much.

Jesus, dude. Just pay the 10 bucks a month for Youtube Red and download legit. You even get a subscription to Play Music included.

You folks also have a much higher minimum wage than we do. Minimum wage, or mean wage, in a country is the best way to compare costs of products and services. The US, sadly, is at the bottom fo the barrel on minimum wage for first world countries. First world problems, or something like that.

LOL are we really going to go this far? Either way you look at it cell plans are still cheaper in the states than Canada (as they always have been) and they're getting more expensive in Canada as time goes. Since someone brought up the exchange rate, you can factor that into the American median wage as well..

Sigh... That post isn't even worth responding further to. Basic business.

Why wait. Just ask T-Mo to pay your contract ETF(s) or to buy out your device financing. Also you have 30 days to try out any phone(s) you buy, finance, or lease from them. Inside that 30 days, if you feel that T-Mobile service is crap where you live, work, or travel to -- just return the phone(s) to T-Mobile and they'll refund everything you've paid, both for cell service and phone(s).

The T-mobile sub-reddit (/r/tmobile) is where to ask questions, get info, or talk to existing customers.
Cool, I didn't think about checking reddit. My wife is still on the iPhone 5 and we were trying to wait to see what happens with the rumored 4" iPhone 6/6s/7 or whatever comes down the pipe as she refuses to get a "big phone" like the 6s. From what I understand, the coverage is much better with the latest chips in the 6s that support the 700MHz stuff. I checked online and her iPhone 5 is supported on T-Mobile—we'll just have to get it unlocked—which I don't think will be an issue since her contract expired over a year ago. My 6s is on the iPhone Upgrade Plan, which is unlocked.

They are likely transcoding it to H.264 at lower resolution and bitrate using a mobile optimization proxy (many mobile operators have those). It's unlikely that they would use a different codec since the stream would no longer be compatible with iOS devices.

BTW, what wasn't mentioned in the Macrumors article: If you turn off their compression, the streaming is no longer free (also see this posting). Always a catch.

It's too bad other carriers don't at least offer this as an option. Normally I don't like them messing with my traffic—but as long as I control the settings I don't mind. It would really help keep my data plan in check, especially when I accidentally tap on a video link in Safari and it queues up a 20 minute video in a few seconds before I can even react. The unfortunate thing is that many apps or regular videos inside Safari don't have any quality control options.

Just for my edification how does Apple's own iPhone Upgrade Program work? I mean, your iPhone 6s is unlocked -- because you bought it outright? Or because your lease / financing is with Apple itself?

If can keep paying Apple for the phone and just switch to any carrier without an ETF that will make this a breeze.

I was just making a statement that when comparing costs of things people need to look at the whole picture. It's not as simple as a conversion rate. I din't mean to get critical, just adding to the discourse. When discussing mean household incomes and adjusting for conversion Canadian mean was still 10% higher. But at the end of the day we all have it bad compared to some of the folks in Europe, and that's the real tragedy.

I went ahead and did some comparisons. Most providers were about $90 CAD (67.75 USD) per month for 5gb and unlimited minutes (didn't give me a statistic for texting). Adjusting for inflation that is really on par with most single line plans on the big US carriers. The Same
Plan on ATT was $75 per month and $70 with T-Mobile. Unsure on family
Plans as those get exponentially cheaper on most shad carriers. The largest difference I saw was an inability to lease and/or otherwise break up handset payments to the degree we get here in the US. We've got that down pat. We've been spending money we don't have for centuries lol.

The concern is actually data consumption. My son has some favorites that he plays in the back seat of the car. Last month he used up 8 gigs playing the same three videos. $10 a month to store 3 videos is just silly, and I don't care about music. Regardless, I figured out how to download locally thanks to BeSweet. But thank you for the comment nonetheless.

Uhm..... T-mobile -does- offer unlimited data. They never got rid of it.

Technically all their plans are "unlimited" though, right? It's the amount of of fast data you pay for. It's what I loved about the Simple plans. I rarely go over 3gb but when I do close to the end of my cycle, it's nice to know I can still actually use my phone even if it's slower. But with this Binge On - video from those providers never slows no matter what. I mean, anyone hating on this is really digging deep to find something bad to say. Those people aren't even worth responding to. Let's just enjoy the TMO service that continues to get better and better at a faster rate than any of the other carriers! :)

It was scheduled to be activated yesterday, anyone tried it yet? And are the higher data numbers showing up yet? My phone is still saying 3 gigs instead of six.
