T-Mobile USA Executive Offers Letter to Customers Regarding Lack of iPhone

Disappointed. I spent three years on T-Mobile dealing with EDGE on my original iPhone, then iPhone 3G...finally switched to AT&T for the iPhone 4, and couldn't go back to EDGE.

If the iPhone 5 worked on T-Mobile, I'd have switched back in a heartbeat. I had identical reception and half the price on T-Mobile.

And that's just the US. Canada also has wide AWS support. There are probably at least 10M potential serious iPhone customers who are on an AWS 3G network and want to stay there. That's a pretty huge market to ignore.

Whatever happened to radio-on-SIM, anyway? That would have fixed all these problems (ideally).
 
It'll be nice to get T-Mobile onboard simply so the choice of carrier in the U.S. will be independent of the choice of iPhone vs. another phone. Anybody who wants an iPhone will be able to have one, without the hardship caused by having to switch carriers.
 
Good move by TMobile.

I think its silly of Apple to have not provided a supporting iPhone yet (although in their defense, the number of people on the TMobile 3G frequencies are pretty low, since, unlike ATT, I dont believe its a very common worldwide frequency either).

This should not take the well-worn frame of <any other company> (Tmobile in this case) vs. Apple. This is a company wanting to help sell more of an Apple device(s). They are NOT the enemy. They want to offer the iPhone to their millions of customers. See it for what it is (which is not one company is totally wrong and Apple is all in the right). This reads very much like if Apple would let them have it, they would sell it to their base.

Because tmobile was forced to use different frequencies. Apple doesn't want yet another iPhone model perhaps?

Wut? T-Mobile is not a reseller of AT&T. They have their own infrastructure and everything.
 
Apple essentially GAVE T-mobile the iPhone. What T-Mobile COULD do is... tell customers to go to the Apple store, purchase the iPhone unlocked, then give their customer a nice $400 rebate for a 2 year service contract. Heck, if Tmobile were to just give $300 rebate, MANY customers would gladly stay with them.
 
does anybody here have sound knowledge what is stopping T-Mobile from getting the iPhone or what is stopping Apple from giving it to T-Mobile? (I understand the different frequencies. But that can easily be solved by Apple. All other manufacturers had no problem with this. So please do not give stupid answers like: The frequency is different.)
Is it price or the willingness of T-Mobile to offer visual voice mail or contracts with ATT/Verizon banning Apple from giving it to other providers?

I can't see a reason why Apple or T-Mobile would limit the sales of the iPhone.
 
The author this article appears to have taken some editorial liberties. The release from T-Mobile does not indicate anything about an Iphone 5. It only says they will not have the iphone.

The author decided to add in the term "Iphone 5".

Not saying there will or will not be some new phone, or even an Iphone 5. Just saying that the author should not state something that was not stated.

Seems pretty clear to me. It's not like AT&T wants two different sets of iPhone customers. If the purchase goes through, then T-Moble will tell its customers to go sign up with AT&T if they want an iPhone.

Verizon Wireless has 107 million subscribers.
T-Mobile has 33 million subscribers.

AT&T and Verizon account for more than 200 million subscribers.

Sprint has 50 million subscribers.
 
So $90 billion in cash and millions of subscribers willing to get a T-Mobile iPhone. Yep Apple manages their cash well.

Kind of hard to do when AT&T and verizon control all of them. That is why they are using something different.

Please understand the why before you start bashing them. Plus not like it would be hard to add it those missing frequencies. No extra chips are needed.
 
It's a shame when you look at it. Adding the iPhone to T-Mobile would have made the company solid it's really lacking a great smart phone.

Jeez. Different frequencies. Different frequencies. Different frequencies.

Most carriers around the world use the standard. T-Mobile US does not.

Phones have to be made specifically for T-Mobile US, and they don't work at full speed on standard GSM networks around the world. Take any GSM phone from Europe and it'll only work as EDGE on T-Mobile US.

Really sucks. I've been on T-Mobile forever, and I hoped the iPhone would come to it this fall. I really don't want to switch carriers; T-Mobile has been nothing but awesome for me. When my contract is up this fall I guess I'll see.
 
Time to invest in Sprint stock. T-Mobile users will flock to Sprint for the iPhone, and Sprint offers the best deal now with their unlimited data.
