Does anyone know if this will work with t-mo's prepaid partners?

Any idea if this will work with t-mo's prepaid partners? I'm on solavei and I would love to get this update since my service runs on t-mo's towers.

I remember in the past for one carrier update on AT&T, it required that all iPhone users upgrade to the latest iOS version before the carrier update would show up for that phone.

I'm confused. I thought that the AT&T iPhone 5 would not work on Tmobile's LTE. Apple even said so by stating that a software update could not enable it and that the Tmobile iphone 5 will replace all current Gsm models.

Can anyone knowledgeable comment on this?

Thanks.

If I have this correctly the current AT&T iPhone 5 doesn't support T-Mobiles 42.2mbs HSPA+. The new updated models will. The current ones do support LTE though. It just had to be turned on.

If T-Mobile starts rolling out LTE in my area I will switch at the drop of a hat.

My contract with AT&T ends in 9 months. Their service wasn't bad in my area, but I just don't like their business practices (Ending all cheaper messaging options to force you either on the $20 unlimited or pay per use with their ridiculous rate, right after iMessage was released. Also I still can't use facetime over 3G for whatever reason.)

Ain't competition grand? :)

Ok, so what's the response from the other major carries going to be to counteract T-Mobile's offerings? (Other than they have more than 3 cell towers which aren't powered by mutant hamsters on PPC and steroids).

I'm rooting for T-Mobile. (But stuck with AT&T for now).

The Next Web is saying it unlocks AWS HSPA+ for current unlocked iPhone 5's. I thought this wasn't possible and that was why Apple had to release an updated version of the phone?

Also, they say it requires the latest version of iOS and the phone cannot be JB. Hmmm...

Even though I'm pretty sure this is gonna be a server switch from Apple's back end to enable AWS HSPA+ with the new IP5s after April 12.

Can someone upload the T-Mobile Carrier Update IPCC file?

I just checked, it says this now: AWS HSPA+ (T-Mobile and new 2013 AT&T iPhone 5 only)

So it seems that AT&T will be selling a new iPhone model that has AWS HSPA+ enabled on the wireless chip.

The writers weren't being very clear as they are mentioning the AT&T iPhone 5 available after April 12th (The "new" 2013 iPhone - not the one released in October) - IE the exact same one being released for T-Mobile (the phones are identical and both have AWS 3G). AT&T will be selling their iPhone 5's with AWS 3G from now on.

The AT&T iPhones bought before April 12th will not have AWS 3G enabled.

This is a Carrier Update that is obtained via iTunes, not OTA.

Carrier updates can come OTA and this one surely will.

The current A1428 iPhone works just fine with AWS LTE. What it doesn't support is AWS HSPA. So the current phone will work with all of T-mobile's LTE and get 3G only in the areas that have refarmed to 1900mhz.

Damn, I was getting very excited just a few mins ago. XD

See the AT&T iPhone 5 spec info. It clearly lists HSPA+ 42.

Ok this is what I thought was going on. C'mon Next Web! I still don't know if it requires the latest version of iOS. Does it say in the update?

The website quoted above says it does. People will post the carrier update on here so those people who don't want to update don't have to.

Generally these are actually over the air for the most part, but not related to (Apple's) software update. Often these just update the carrier version that can be checked (and sometimes would initiate/complete the update) by going to Settings > General > About.

The LTE will work but not the AWS 3G.

T-Mobile's LTE will work with an AT&T iPhone. T-Mobile's HSPA+ high speed data will not.

My understanding was that Tmobile was refarming their entire network. In other words, eliminate 1700 and replace it with 1900.

T-Mobile doesn't do HSPA+42 on 1900Mhz. So until the new phone arrives April 12th that supports AWS HSPA+, it isn't possible on T-mobile.

Anyone with Simple Mobile get this? Or any idea if they are getting it? Can't find info and a friend who has an unlocked iPhone on them, she'd like to be able to have Visual Voicemail again.
