If T-Mobile were better in my area, it might be tempting. I've been with AT&T since 2009 and am happy with their service. In fact, it has continually improved for me.

Not sure if this has been discussed.

But when you terminate a line early, you will get nailed with pretty excessive standard taxes on the ETF line.

I terminated an ATT line last month. My ETF was $240. No biggie. But than saw the Maryland taxes on that line. Ended up being aroun $38 in taxes for that spare line.

Usually my spare line is $10. And taxes are about $2. So yo u will pay aournd 10-20% taxes on the ETF. Not sure if T-mobile will reimburse you for the taxes paid for the ETF. Can't get anyone from Tmobile to answer that.

If you are transferring 3-5 lines. That's a lot of taxes to pay. Potentially $30-40 per line in taxes alone.

I bet there are tons of hidden costs here. On T-Mobile's site it says that you need to buy a $10 sim kit for each phone so for 3 lines that is an extra $30 right there. Taxes alone will ruin this deal I bet.

I know. My brother is thinking about switching back to T-mobile from ATT. He's got 4 lines.

Tmobile has always been good in DC/Baltimore area so coverage isn't a big issue.

Just doing my calculations for him.

He's got 3 lines each with around $180 ETF each plus another line with around a $300 ETF. If Tmobile just gives him the $540 plus $300. That's $840 in credits plus the phones. He will probably keep the iphone 5S but trade in the 2 iphone 5's depending on the trade in value.

But anyways, if Tmobile is giving in mastercard credit of $840. That's alright. But if my brother fines out he will not get reimburse for the taxes on the ETF, that could be another $150-200.

Is it worth it?

I cannot seem to figure out the math on this. I am on Verizon, five lines, Share everything plan. I pay for 20GB of data, and our lines are smartphones. This costs me 350 dollars a month. If i Switch to T-Mobile, I will save a lot, but when using this deal, how much am I saving? I have a iPhone 5 16 GB, iPhone 5C 16 GB, LG G2, LG G2, and a Galaxy Note III, all in almost perfect condition and the ETF is $350 for each phone.

If I switch to T-Mobile, will I be paying less money for Unlimited Data on five lines, when putting the prices of those new phones, unlocked, after I receive the trade in money? There is way too much math to do here, I cannot figure out which is the better deal. I would be buying the same phones back again from T-Mobile, except for a iPhone 5S instead of a 5. There are also taxes too... I live in Wisconsin if that makes a difference.

:eek::confused:

Thank you for anyone who can maybe help.

Hey guys, based on my previous thought. I figured there was only one way to find out if ATT would cave to give a credit that eventually will be equivalent with what TMobile is offering to a degree so that they can protect their subscriber base. Well, I guess I was on to something. I'm receiving a 50 dollar permanent credit on ATT. They went with free of charge family messaging which is 30 bucks and a permanent 20 dollar credit. Reoccurring every month. Listen, I'm actually pretty ok with that. Tmobile has horrible building penetration where I work and there's a ton of dead spots in my commute home. So to have a bill that matches what I would have gotten from TMobile, I'm happy about.

I apparently am getting a $10 discount I wasn't aware of. I never check my bill unless it's drastically different. Copied from my most recent bill:

Nation 450 with Rollover $29.99
International Roaming – Expanded $0.00
DataPro Unlimited for iPhone on 4G LTE with Visual Voicemail $25.00
Messaging 1000 $10.00

National Account Discount −$10.05
Total Monthly Plan Charges $63.94
Surcharges & Fees $3.00
Government Fees & Taxes $3.96
Total for 216-xxx-xxxx $61.90

"DataPro Unlimited for iPhone on 4G LTE with Visual Voicemail $25.00"

Copied from your bill?? That $25 DataPro plan generally is limited to 2GB. Generally, unlimited plans simply say "Unlimited". How is it that you have such a unique plan?

How high up the chain did you have to go to get that?

Pressed 3 for service cancellation. I'm assuming that threw me to retention. That's all I did. I have a coworker calling Verizon now to see if they will do the same.

It took this long for a carrier to offer this? Unreal! I remember asking Verizon to do this for me several years ago and they refused. Oh well, their loss. I'm still on AT&T for now.

I have no idea how I've got the plan I have. I originally got unlimited daty with my 3GS. I've not changed anything since then and the monthly bill has been the same ever since. I consider myself lucky.

how much data do you use?

if you pay for all your phones outright then you're looking at around $150 - $200 per month on t mobile

I just went in to Tmo and did this. Walked out the door with a shiny new 5s! Pretty pleased with the deal personally, but then again I was leaving Sprint so it's actually an upgrade in service for me. For less money!

Kill Your TV

I wish someone at the TV Cable Cartels would nuke the bundle scam!

T Mobile is showing the way. I am sure this came about after the CEO got kicked out of the party.

Rage on dude!!

Who is your employer through which you now get the @$10 discount? A plan like that ($30 phone/$25 unlimited data) was never available to the general public.

Did you move an individual plan or a family plan? Just asking since i was going to pull the trigger and move my family plan over, but had a few questions.

Here's mine, grandfathered from my original 3GS plan with corporate FAN discount:

Nation 450 with Rollover $39.99
International Roaming – Expanded $0.00
Data Unlimited for iPhone on 4G LTE with VVM $30.00
Messaging 200 $5.00
National Account Discount $14.00CR
Total Monthly Plan Charges $60.99

Plus around eight bucks per month in various taxes and surcharges.

So I'm under $70/month, every month, unless I happen to go nuts texting someone who isn't on iMessage.

If it's of any interest, I called ATT inquiring about incentives to stay onboard. They offered to waive my monthly SMS fee, credit me $90.00, and offer a reduced cost upgrade to a newer phone.

That's awesome! How much was your monthly SMS Fee? How many lines did you have? I received 50$ credit recurring.

So I have to give up my phone first? I can't just bring my current 5S over?

Sounds like they are trying to juice iPhone sales since you will have to buy one when you switch. And that's another $25 a month to the bill with their $0 down plans.

With T-Mobile's pricing, I can switch my 3 lines used by my family for $120 on a family share plan. Good deal! Oh, but wait, T-Mobile will make us surrender our phones first, then turn around and sell us new ones for 3x$25, bringing that $120 a month to $195 a month - EXACTLY WHAT I'M PAYING AT&T NOW!

How is this a deal for me T-Mobile? I'm still in the same position of paying a carrier $195 a month! :p Nice try though.

It is not the point that you are getting a great amount of money and profit switching from Verizon to T-Mobile, it is this. Say you are on the Share Everything Plan, with five lines, and 20 GB monthly data. This costs 350 dollars a month. Now, if you were to switch to T-Mobile now, while trading in five smartphones, without having to pay the ETF, the savings over time are tremendous. See five lines with unlimited everything on T-Mobile is $210 a month. So even if I had to buy five new smartphones, the is definitely balanced, and you get the benefits of no contract. Under the right circumstances, and if you have good cellular connection where you are (I DO NOT) with T-Mobile, switching would be a great deal.

They are putting you in a contract, without saying your in a contract. You still got to pay $25 a month for each phone. If you want to leave T-Mobile before you pay of that $650 (16GB) phone, guess what? T-Mobile will charge you for the difference. At $25 a month, it'll take 26 months to pay off that phone. Gee, that's a contract because I'm still "trapped" by a carrier until I pay off the phone. It's the same as paying AT&T $199 for 2 years and deciding to leave before that and the hit me with an ETF of $450 - the $650 the iPhone costs!

T-Mobile is just playing word games.
