Not sure if this has been discussed.
But when you terminate a line early, you will get nailed with pretty excessive standard taxes on the ETF line.
I terminated an ATT line last month. My ETF was $240. No biggie. But than saw the Maryland taxes on that line. Ended up being aroun $38 in taxes for that spare line.
Usually my spare line is $10. And taxes are about $2. So yo u will pay aournd 10-20% taxes on the ETF. Not sure if T-mobile will reimburse you for the taxes paid for the ETF. Can't get anyone from Tmobile to answer that.
If you are transferring 3-5 lines. That's a lot of taxes to pay. Potentially $30-40 per line in taxes alone.
I bet there are tons of hidden costs here. On T-Mobile's site it says that you need to buy a $10 sim kit for each phone so for 3 lines that is an extra $30 right there. Taxes alone will ruin this deal I bet.
I apparently am getting a $10 discount I wasn't aware of. I never check my bill unless it's drastically different. Copied from my most recent bill:
Nation 450 with Rollover $29.99
International Roaming Expanded $0.00
DataPro Unlimited for iPhone on 4G LTE with Visual Voicemail $25.00
Messaging 1000 $10.00
National Account Discount −$10.05
Total Monthly Plan Charges $63.94
Surcharges & Fees $3.00
Government Fees & Taxes $3.96
Total for 216-xxx-xxxx $61.90
Hey guys, based on my previous thought. I figured there was only one way to find out if ATT would cave to give a credit that eventually will be equivalent with what TMobile is offering to a degree so that they can protect their subscriber base. Well, I guess I was on to something. I'm receiving a 50 dollar permanent credit on ATT. They went with free of charge family messaging which is 30 bucks and a permanent 20 dollar credit. Reoccurring every month. Listen, I'm actually pretty ok with that. Tmobile has horrible building penetration where I work and there's a ton of dead spots in my commute home. So to have a bill that matches what I would have gotten from TMobile, I'm happy about.
How high up the chain did you have to go to get that?
"DataPro Unlimited for iPhone on 4G LTE with Visual Voicemail $25.00"
Copied from your bill?? That $25 DataPro plan generally is limited to 2GB. Generally, unlimited plans simply say "Unlimited". How is it that you have such a unique plan?
I cannot seem to figure out the math on this. I am on Verizon, five lines, Share everything plan. I pay for 20GB of data, and our lines are smartphones. This costs me 350 dollars a month. If i Switch to T-Mobile, I will save a lot, but when using this deal, how much am I saving? I have a iPhone 5 16 GB, iPhone 5C 16 GB, LG G2, LG G2, and a Galaxy Note III, all in almost perfect condition and the ETF is $350 for each phone.
If I switch to T-Mobile, will I be paying less money for Unlimited Data on five lines, when putting the prices of those new phones, unlocked, after I receive the trade in money? There is way too much math to do here, I cannot figure out which is the better deal. I would be buying the same phones back again from T-Mobile, except for a iPhone 5S instead of a 5. There are also taxes too... I live in Wisconsin if that makes a difference.
Thank you for anyone who can maybe help.
I have no idea how I've got the plan I have. I originally got unlimited daty with my 3GS. I've not changed anything since then and the monthly bill has been the same ever since. I consider myself lucky.
I just went in to Tmo and did this. Walked out the door with a shiny new 5s! Pretty pleased with the deal personally, but then again I was leaving Sprint so it's actually an upgrade in service for me. For less money!
Did you move an individual plan or a family plan? Just asking since i was going to pull the trigger and move my family plan over, but had a few questions.

If it's of any interest, I called ATT inquiring about incentives to stay onboard. They offered to waive my monthly SMS fee, credit me $90.00, and offer a reduced cost upgrade to a newer phone.
It is not the point that you are getting a great amount of money and profit switching from Verizon to T-Mobile, it is this. Say you are on the Share Everything Plan, with five lines, and 20 GB monthly data. This costs 350 dollars a month. Now, if you were to switch to T-Mobile now, while trading in five smartphones, without having to pay the ETF, the savings over time are tremendous. See five lines with unlimited everything on T-Mobile is $210 a month. So even if I had to buy five new smartphones, the is definitely balanced, and you get the benefits of no contract. Under the right circumstances, and if you have good cellular connection where you are (I DO NOT) with T-Mobile, switching would be a great deal.
