Article based on mis-leading data

These articles about market share are very misleading. Specially this Android vs iOS crap because it pits virtually every vendor who spits out tablets cheap or not using different flavors of Android versus one high-end vendor: Apple.
First off, these reports need to segmented specifically by hardware vendor ie. Samsung vs Apple. Then to truly understand the market it would be ideal to further segment the numbers by tablet size say less than 10", then 10" or more.
Then segment by market positioning, ie. premium vs bargain. Why? BWM continues to be a successful, profitable and growing brand. But has a rather insignificant worldwide marketshare when compared with GM, Toyota, etc. Does that mean BMW (whom is increasingly profitable) dead in a few years?
Of course not.... That's why I can't stand to read these general market share articles.

All that should matter is that Apple / iOS continue to sell in increasing numbers for solid profits in the segments Apple has decided to play in (premium products in specific sizes).

Putting an retina iPad Air in with the same groupings as an $89 Android tablet (who knows what flavor?) is mis-leading and incorrect market analysis.

I know Porsche and BMW are not losing sleep over Kia and Hyundai. They both make cars but for fundamentally different people. There's obviously room for everyone to profit!

I'm sorry but these predictions are worthless. Especially when cheap Chinese USB sticks that run "android" apparently get counted in these estimates.

Please provide a source specific to this Canalys study which supports your claim.

iOS, Android, etc. don't have real file systems...If I can't organize my files on it then it is not a PC.

All you need to do on Android is install one of the many free file managers and you do have access to all your files and by default it uses ext4, the same as many full Linux distributions.

I work in IT. I know a lot of tech people. I hardly know anyone who has an Android tablet. These market share numbers are always so confusing to me...

In the wild, I've seen less than a dozen Android tablets at coffee shops, on airplanes, etc. I can easily recall the few places I have see these Android tablets because I remember being so shocked to see someone actually using one. I've seen more Kindle fires IRL than true Android tablets. Meanwhile, I see people everywhere with iPads daily.

When you go to my local Bestbuy, Apple has a small table with iPads that is constantly buzzing with activity. This table takes up less than 5% of the floor space of the BestBuy computer section yet it dominates that majority of foot traffic. The rest of the computer department space is just rows of PCs, laptops, and Android tablets with hardly any foot traffic.

I don't understand why iPad doesn't have 75%+ market share. Why am I missing here? I refuse believe Android has a 65% tablet share until I see someone at an event using it to take photos.

Well, I give you a hint. The U.S is not the entire world. The rest of the world have access to better-capability-for-less-money Android phones/tablets. In asia I see Android phones/tablets are replacing the overpriced-and-lesser-hardware iphones/ipads.

Change iPad by iPhone and you can put this post in any thread about market share from 3 years ago
