What? S3 launches May 2012. iPhone 5 was September 2012. S3 had a 16:9 ratio. Same as iPhone 5.

So no, Samsung was first.
Fun fact. The original Samsung Galaxy S released in 2010 had a 16:9 aspect ration. Therefore Samsung did it 2 years before Apple.

It depends. Apple has a greater market share.
What the heck? That’s makes ZERO sense. Has nothing to do with someone doing something first.

Third time's the charm! :D

Thank you. I’m often called charming.

Quite the contrary. Apple has made many cents. Some would estimate in the billions. I’m not so bold to go that far.

It’s almost as if there are different people with different opinions posting.

Seriously. Are you having a conversation with yourself here. There are no different opinions. It’s a fact Samsung did it first. Unless in your world time is not a thing.

I'm really glad I normally browse in landscape mode.

Anything text based is generally better on a portrait display. The iPhone X will display more text in a news article or a forum post than the iPhone 8 Plus will.
It won't due to the humongous new status and bottom bars, plus the screen is much narrower so text will wrap anyway. It won't be that huge of a difference compared to the 4.7" models either.

There is really nothing great about tall screens. About 0.00001% of web content is designed for portrait.

Have you never heard of responsive web design? Almost every website uses it nowadays. It allows the website to adapt to whatever the width of the display is.

And most people use there phone in portrait mode for everything except watching video or playing some games.

Tall screens allow you to see more content for the mode that most people use there phone.

let's see what happens when you scroll the page down on the X...
so the address bar shrinks to the size of the one on plus and the UI at the bottom disappears..
like- put the two in the same state prior to posting the comparison.

it's almost as if whoever made that comparison is purposely trying to show the plus model in a better light..
why do that?
let's see it for what it is.. no need for the opinion based slant on that type of comparison (imo)

If the Plus's AddressBar is shown, it pushes
"movies. There are worse things"
to the bottom of the screen.

Still, that's more than the iPhone X can display.

Your comparison was not on fair terms. You gave the Plus the advantage of not displaying the URL bar AND the controls at the bottom.

Go look at the real comparison that dlewis23 posted above.
