What can I say? You are:

  1. a brave SOB;
  2. very handy!! (I wish I had the tech skills to pull something like this off...)

If there is one thing I dislike about the modern crop of Macs, it's that they've gone back to the monochrome style of cases. I really dug those colored iMacs and iBooks!

Well done! :apple:

It's probably a bit late, but be sure to clearcoat this. Dip Dye does not last.

How would I go about doing that? Only if it were to have a good finish that would hold up I would consider it. It's been a year and a half and its still standing up strong. What I liked about the rit was your still touching the same plastics and they feel the same because all that is changed is the colour...

It would require disassembling the case entirely again however the process would be fairly simple: you can use a variety of spray paints, including Regular Clear Acrylic Coat, Special Effects Matte Finish Coat, Low Odour Clear Acrylic Coat, or Special Effects Triple High Glaze. I highly reccomend the Triple High Glaze, it's truly an amazing finish. If you like things dull, then go for the Matte clearcoat. If you want it to smell better quicker, go for the low odour one, if you don't give a flying f*ck, just go for the regular acrylic.

If you saw the very last pic I put up, I was starting something. The Bezel is white again and I was going to start prepping the back to redye. The thing was with the original project I just dyed the parts as is, and it had more wear around the edges and it took the dye differently. If I were to prep them all the same, and then dye them, they would all take the dye the same. Now I just gotta pick between matte and triple gloss, lol. I'm ready to do the prep (wetdry sandpaper all the way up to 1500 grit) and get the topcase finished and then I think I am good!

Like I said before, I highly suggest the triple gloss, it looks a lot better (SHINY :]) than the matte finish does. The matte finish is dull and boring D:

I'd just like to let you know that I am attempting this project with some Red RIT dye...
I'll let you know how it goes, I'm trying a bunch of keys right now.

What's up guys, just got a link from a friend. This project is on the front page of lifehacker.com! The tanbook is still running today, was replaced by a pre unibody macbookpro. Will get a pic of it up tonight...

^ Friend? Lies! :p jk

Okay, the stove is off, parts are out. It might need some more time if it isn't dark enough, but I think it should be fine.

This is what they look like before cleaning... Reminds me of those Litho icons!

That looks like my parent's kitchen!! Even has the same stove!
