JEEZUM DUDE -- every time i look at a pic of the disassembled macbook i wince in pain like im being kicked in the ballz.

i really really hope you will be able to put it togeher...

and also, a question -- if you can disassemble the MB like that is there a possibility that you could add a backlight to the keyboard?

lol, have you read past page one? I completed the project a while ago, and yes it all works. The keyboard is all in one piece (called a topcase). That would be really hard to do that to, more advanced than what I know how to do at least.

*checks sig* What happened to your macbook? Must be a major bummer, especially after the work you put into it...

Yeah I actually did put quite a bit of work into it. The HDD failed :( and there were no backups either.

When I buy another mac, I'm gonna get Disk Warrior and see if it will mount as I already bought a firewire enclosure for it not to long before it went out on me. I already placed it in there and tried to see if it would mount on my windows machine but wouldn't.

First time I see this thread. I would never do this to my ... PRECIOUS, although the result is awesome. Seeing the pictures in chronological order the result is far better as i had expected. Well Done!!

Wow, that is cool. I would not do it myself personally, however that is just amazing. :D

I don't think any spray would be as resistant as dye due to the heat MacBooks often have to endure..
Same goes for MBPs, especially cause they get a little bit hotter than MacBooks, that's why aluminium usually gets anodized, and yeah, it's dangerous and expensive, I'd only do it with a 2-3 yr old MBP or Aluminium MacBook, especially cause of the warranty thing

Fushion works great on headlights... and those get plenty hot with a pair of 55 watt bulbs running an inch away from the plastic for hours.

hey,

i looked at this forum about a week ago, and decided to take apart my macbook and dye it yellow.

i took it apart, and want to dye it.

to i have to dye it in alchohal?
and do i leave it while its boiling?
or just really hot water.?

Wow, dying it sounds like a whole lot of trouble. I painted my old iBook about 6 months ago because it was looking really grungy. I just used some cheap spray paint(rust-oleum I believe) and then a good polyurethane over it to seal it in. It's held up pretty well, and has since been passed on to my brother.

I was in a hurry when I did though and as you can see I covered up the symbol on the power button and the iBook logo.

I actually created a listing on ebay for this. Search for Item #: 230355469807. Since you're on MR, I'll offer any color for free besides just black.

this thread introduced me to macrumors...this is freaking awesome work!! please mass produce this...i bet loads of people would buy it!:)

(replying on this thread now so more people can see your insanely awesome work...)

I love how intimidated people get and what a big deal they make of seeing what other people do with their belongings. I can't stand naysayers... can't stand em.

Update!

Wow, haven't made a post on this project in a little over a year! Yes, I have been up to a bunch of stuff and the MacBook has been treating me very well! Must say thank you for all the support people! :)

I finally took it apart (the first time since I did the last mod) and cleaned out the dust. It lives with the topcase unscrewed and I remove it all the time but I finally pulled the heatsink and logic board (now a 15 minute job, hehe) to clean out the dust under the fan. I had some new and expensive thermal paste a friend had leftovers... Got it on there with a really nice application and reassembled. It's very very happy now, temps dropped 30 degrees all around. Idling at 113* is normal, compared to being around 138* normally. The only other upgrade I want to do is to put 4gb of ram in (Apple says you can only put 2gb in this model, but if you put in 4gb paired it recognizes 3.3gb's worth). Anyone want to buy two Apple 1gb dimm's from me? :D

So, because I only put a few pictures up of the finished product and let the thread die here is a few more! All of these are within the past few months, nothing major happened before then so your not missing out, lol.

The Tangerine Macbook in the wild! (notice new key configuration, I did play around a bit with it)
