Oh I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who noticed this!

I turned "tap to click" off, and I'm actually finding on the Magic Trackpad it's quite nice to use that way... But I hope it gets resolved as I may go back.

I have the same issue on a 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro using the original Trackpad. I will try using the built-in Trackpad on the MacBook Pro more in the next few days to see if the issue also exists.

I saw this tip in another thread regarding some "Bluetooth connection" issue : disable AirPlay Receiver under Preferences -> Sharing.

As I'm now back on Big Sur hence can't really try this. Can someone try this to see if it also fixes our issue ? Thanks

Tried this right now on my MacBook Pro 13" (2019 with TB) and it didn't work. I am on macOS Monterey 12.0.1 stable release. This problem is here since Beta 9 for me.

I'm experiencing this on a M1 MacBook Air. I thought I was going crazy and that my touchpad was broken.

My Magic Trackpad 2 has suddenly stopped providing haptic feedback when I click it. I am on a iMac (27-inch, 2019) running Monterey 12.0.1

after updating it is gone!

I've tried unpairing and then repairing it. Not sure of its a hardware issue or a software problem.

Updating to what ? :D. 12.1 beta?

It's not just that the trackpad is unresponsive to touch, under 12.0.1, it's also is super flakey selecting text.
The cure for me also was downgrading to 11.6.1.

Same thing here on a brand new MacBook Pro 16".

I'm relieved it's not a hardware thing, but it is really annoying and seems to be getting worse with time.

For the record, I tested on macOS 12.1 Beta 1 and tap to click is slightly better but still doesn't respond about ~20% of the time, requiring a second tap. It's still annoying.

I submitted a feedback report, I would encourage others to file a feedback report also, more reports, more attention.

I submitted a report via Feedback Assistant on Oct 26th and there's no update at all from Apple till now

At least they do acknowledge there are multiple reports about the issue. So I guess they are investigating it.

Experiencing the same issue on the brand new 14" MacBook Pro (12.0.1), although it only presents itself when tapping to click with modifier keys (i.e. Cmd + Tap to open link in new Tab or Shift + Tap to multi select range of files in finder).
This is what I am seeing too. OS 12.0.1 on a new 14" M1 Pro. Tapping to click by itself seems mostly ok but holding down Command or Shift or Control makes it so the click usually fails to register. It's not restricted to any single application, either. I thought my trackpad was broken and was debating if I should take the laptop in to replace it until I found this thread. Guess it's a bug in the OS.
