I traded in an iPad 1 yesterday. I was told that I had to buy an iPad that day to do the trade-in. I was handed a gift card and while a different Target employee was ringing me up for an iPad Mini purchase, I asked what was to prevent me from just leaving the store once I had the gift card and not making a purchase. He said the mobile guy was supposed to bring me over to do the purchase. So, in my case, I could have just left with the gift card.

I immediately returned the iPad Mini saying I had changed my mind. I did receive the gift card balance but the rub was that I had to get the full balance of the return on a gift card. I couldn't get the difference I paid put back to my original card.

Just called and got the SAME EXACT response..guy not in yet...only valid towards an iPad Air...what the hell Target?

Sounds like a Great Deal...

Can anyone tell me how to strip my Ipad1. Is it just a matter of deleting the apps? I would love to take advantage of this offer.

Just got a $200 Target Gift Card for a 16GB 1st generation iPad. As soon as walked up to the Target mobile stand the rep asked if I was there for the trade-in program. He said, that if I wanted to get the new iPad, they had none in stock and would be receiving them the next day. I told him I wanted to just go ahead with the trade-in and come back another day for a new iPad.

He happily proceeded with the trade-in no questions asked.

Only the iPad was needed. (No cables, charger or packaging)

Do you think it is worth it to trade in an iPad 2 and iPad Mini for this deal, or to sell via other avenues?

Just traded in my daughters Ipad gen 1 16GB with scratches on the screen. They took it with no questions asked. Took the $200 gift card, got a mini 16gb. Took the $25 gift card from that and got a speck case. My daughter will be happy to come home to a new surprise.

I traded in my iPad 1st gen 16 gig last night at a San Antonio Target. Got the $200.00 gift card with no requirement to purchase anything. Bring on the Retina Mini.

There is noway they can make you buy an iPad right there and theres nothing in the offer that states you have to. I brought mine in and got my card no questions asked. After that i bought COD Ghosts and left. So for anyone calling and them telling you otherwise don't pay attention to them take it in and show them the website offer.http://targettradeinprogram.com

Wow - they changed the language on the offer! Now it says "Between November 3rd thru 9th visit your local Target Mobility store and trade in any iPad for at least $200 to use towards the purchase of a new iPad."

It most definitely did not say that yesterday. There's still a reference lower down that says "$200 minimum promotional credit will be issued on a Target Trade-In Gift Card and is redeemable in any Target store"

I used my trade ins to buy new iPads anyway, but not at the same store. They had run out of 16GB WiFi Airs so I took my gift cards across town and bought from another Target.

From Original to Air in one jump

I'd had my original iPad 16gb wifi only for 3 yrs and saw this deal around 11am this morning - raced with it to Target basically and after going from one store to another found the mobility store and the guy was just showing up. Got a new 16gb Air after getting the $200 credit (he had to look it up and call someone - apparently this was news to him). By the time I was leaving 3 other people were in line to do the same thing. This is in the Nashville area. Couldn't be happier - was about to get a Nexus 7 just for the price difference but can't beat that deal. Hope this new one screams out the gate compared to my old one (even as much as I loved it)!

if you go to a store and they MAKE you buy an ipad. Do it. Don't open it. Return it.

FWIW - went to the Lakewood, WA, store ... in and out in less than 10 minutes. (Original iPad, 32GB, AT&T 3G)

No hassles at all. Have my $200 gift card in my pocket. (And, she didn't ask for the charger or cable, either!)

Cheers!!

Ken

Target Mobile Trade-in receipt: 1st generation 16GB WiFi for $200 gift cards

I, ___________, the Seller, by providing my signature, acknowledge receipt of, and have fully read and understood, the Terms and Conditions, and hereby agree to sell my Goods to the Company in exchange for receipt of a Target Electronics Trade-in Card, Store Credit or other form of compensation and/or value in the amount of the Trade-In Quote.

additional notes:
The Target employees who handle cell phones initially overlooked the check box/drop down for "in-store-promotional" on the computer for $65 trade-in credit. I stood next to the Target employees in few stores. Training issues?

So do you have to fill out any paperwork or do they just check if it works and hand you the gift card?

I went to the store and the guy said I gotta use the credit on the Air. However they didn't have any so I was out of luck. So I came home and it now appears they've taken out the promo code for use online. Anyone else noticing that?

The online language pretty much states you get the 200 in store for whatever you want... not specifically the Air. As for the person who said trade in, purchase the Air and then return it. Sure why not.... it would seem to me that you should get cash back plus the original 200 in store credit gift card after all. Roundabout way to do it but guessing that should work.

Finished mine. The person in front of me immediately purchased an iPad there at the Electronics counter, but I specifically mentioned waiting until they got retina minis in stock. That was perfectly fine with them.

----------

So do you have to fill out any paperwork or do they just check if it works and hand you the gift card?

They fill in what looked like the online trade in quote page, then printed out the form for me to sign, and handed me a gift card. The lady training a new employee went over the generic version of what the paper said with the customer in front of me: You are providing your name and address in case the iPad turns out to be stolen, and you are trading it in for $200 store credit.

I just trade-in my 1st gen. iPad today. The girl over there told me that I can use $200 Target gift card to buy ANYTHING in the Target stores. I didn't try to buy "anything" because my "target" was newer iPad :D

The good news:
  • Thanks to news from MacRumors, I got a new iPad at Target.

  • I saved $200 by trading in an old iPad.

  • I got a $25 gift card with my new iPad purchase.
The bad news:
  • On the phone, Target gave the wrong answer when asked when the Target Mobile guy would be there.

  • The Target Mobile guy didn't show up on time, so trade-in customers had to wait.

  • The Target Mobile guy figured out how to do the $200 trade-in deal but he asked me when the offer expired. I said Saturday November 9.

  • The Target Mobile guy handles trade-ins but not iPad purchases. The other electronics department employees handle iPad purchases but not trade-ins. So after settling my trade-in I had to track down a separate employee to make my purchase.

  • iPad stock was very low. Only a few Wi-Fi models and no Wi-Fi+Cellular models.

  • Between the time I got my $200 gift card and the time they rang up my new iPad, I owned no iPad. I haven't been without one since the first generation iPad was released!
The bottom line is that the trade-in deal works, but you have to check stock, check hours, and be patient. That's the "cost" of buying at Target instead of paying full price and having great convenience at an Apple Store or with an online purchase.

For those that have been successful at a store, do you need the power adapter as well as the iPad?

Thanks in advance.

Ken

The guy in front of me who was turning in multiple iPads was turning in just the iPad, all by itself - no accessories at all. And he got the full $200 each.

I turned mine in with original packaging, in pristine condition, with original power brick, cable, manuals, etc. Got the same $200.

Traded a ipad 2 and my ipad mini. Got $400 and got the 16gb air. Used my target card but only got 5% off of the $79 remainder. $105 out the door. Not bad. Now to take the one I got from Best buy back.

...me, owner of an iPad 1st gen, going to try this tomorrow, I'll post what happens...
I went to the local Target, they sell cell phones at this store, the one Target Mobile guy (handled by Brightstar Mobile out East here) had to do the trade-in (had to wait for him to get back from break), he took my iPad 1 16GB+3G AT&T, just the iPad, no charger or anything with it, gave me $200 Target gift card (took my state license/ID number down). I purchased an iPad Mini 16GB, black for the difference ($99 + tax), they gave me a $25 Target gift card with the purchase of the new iPad Mini (they're giving out $40 gift cards with the larger iPads). Easy as pie! :D (Edit: my screen was perfect, buttons all worked, but back dented and scratched, no prob.)

The guy ahead of me called ahead and reserved the last 16GB iPad Air. He too got $200 for a 16GB iPad 1. If you call, ask for the cell phone department.

You have to go to the one Target Mobile person on staff as they have a separate business that handles cell phone activations and such and that is the business buying the iPads. (They have a separate computer for this, Target employees don't have access.) He only bought the used iPad, activated and gave me the $200 gift card and sent me to Target employee to get the new iPad.

You will not find the correct price online, it's in-store only. You should be able to use the gift card for an online purchase if they don't have the iPad you want in store.

I sold my 64GB Cellular iPad 3 to Game Stop for $$450 today at Game Stop. They pay $353 for the iPad, and if you purchase any used game (go cheap and get something for just a couple of dollars) you get an additional 30%. That's just over $450 in Game Store credit.

Although I'm not a gamer, I use the credits to purchase iTunes gift cards.

The iPad Air can use any of the other carriers nano SIM card (all the iPad cell versions are exactly the same except for the SIM card that is pre-installed). I'm not exactly sure how to go about getting a Verizon nano SIM card though if I get the Sprint version.

I've done a LOT of research on this. You are pretty set to use AT&T and T-Mobile, no matter which model you buy. But if you want either Sprint or Verizon, you need to buy their model because they will reject devices that haven't been pre-provisioned for use on their network. Theoretically you could buy a Verizon SIM online and use it in the Sprint iPad, but it may not work. I've read it will work if you sign up for service using the device, but if you try to sign up for service via phone or in store, it's a no-go. Let me know if you try it. Target's return policy is pretty good, granted you have the receipt.
