I'm halfway through my contract and told the guy I wanted to pay full retail price to upgrade and he said okay and didn't seem like it would be an issue. I guess I don't understand why it would be. We're willing to pay full price for it and we have a contract- why would they care if we're eligible for the the carrier subsidy or not?

----------

Gosh I hope you're right. Mine also says preorder on it. Maybe they were able to do it better this year than with the 5s since there was sort of an actual preorder unlike the 5s which was just a waiting list really.

----------

Thanks for the report. Am I the only one who didn't have to pay for a gift card? I got a preorder receipt but no mention from the guy of a deposit. Makes me even more nervous!

----------

Thanks for that! Keep the updates coming! So does your friend know will they email us if they know one is headed to the store reserved for us or only after it arrives at the store? I really hopes this works out because me saving 10% definitely helps a lot.

About the contract,When I asked the Target Rep if you can buy it off contract he told me not at the time it had to be on a contract with one of their carriers. Theres reports of the same info floating in the forums but people are also speculating its Managers discretion on how they want to sell them. We will get the email as soon as the phones get to the store via UPS or Fedex and are checked in. That way there is no confusion on whether your phone is actually there or if its the correct model or not.

----------

Wow, that timeline sucks. If they have the phones already, why wait such a long time to ship and deliver them?

Im guess there telling the employees this then they are telling us this just in case something happens. Like shipments arrive late,UPS truck breaks down,Apple doesn't have enough units to meet demand that Target ordered, etc.

Just an FYI. They did this the last two releases and they never came through.

Last year, for the 5s, I was the first one on their preorder list. They said they expected some in on launch day and I'd be their first call. Never heard from them.

Endless threads about the Target preorder on here last year...none of them positive.

Who knows though, maybe stock will be better this year (though I doubt it judging by the carrier shipping times). I just wouldn't get my hopes up.

Same. I was the first pre-order at my Target for a 5s. They literally NEVER called me. Ever.

Target pre order?

Do you remember if your receipt said reservation or did it say preorder on it?

Here is my pre-order sheet. I have blurred out my email, name, and pre-order #. They also gave me a receipt.

I'm sorry I meant the sheet from last years iPhone 5s.

The reason I ask is I'm almost positive that last years 5s receipts said reservations, where this year says preorder.

Hopefully it's different from last year. Either way, if they don't call me Thursday night I'm going to the sprint store in the morning.

Hello!

I have a question, and also wanted to share what I've heard.

First, I was told target CAN do the ATT next upgrades. I'm seeing others here say that's not true. Has anyone done a next upgrade at target?

Second,
I have a preorder in as well at my local Target. The story I got was:

Target will be allocating their stock to fulfill preorders before attempting to have shelf stock. My target has 14 preorders currently.

So basically 18k phones will be shipped to all stores with preorders in theory.

Have you guys thought that maybe Targets 5S pre-orders were just "reservations" simply because the 5S didn't have a pre-order from Apple to begin with? Maybe they weren't allowed to do true pre-orders.

I sure hope so. I did call my target today again, My store is not currently participating in NEXT,But some can I beleive.

Im hoping they can get there stock to the stores in time. I live in the east coast and was the first one at my store to pre order and was able to get it in around 845 AM,The Cell department rep got their early. So I would hope to assume I was one of the first ones to pre order from Target as a whole.

My buddy is off the next two days, but will be there on Friday. I'll keep updating as I get more info.

You have an EXTREMELY valid point! I never thought of that and it,That is a very good reason. No pre orders,So Target just had to take what they got.

Man, now I'm having less faith in what the lady told me. I may call them tomorrow. If they can't do NEXT, I essentially preordered in vain

Let me know. I will ask my buddy tomorrow how it works. I wanted to do NEXT but Ill do whatever so I can get the phone.

I don't see any store outside of Apple and the carrier stores having Pluses on Friday.

Why not? It's not like it's a specific color like the gold 5S, in which it was much more rare.

This is actually a separate phone we're talking about, that Apple is supposed to sell. I don't see why Apple wouldn't give a batch of 6's and a batch of 6+'s to outside retailers. It doesn't make sense.

So the pre-order confirmation page that someone posted earlier in the thread encourages you to call to make an appointment to pick up your phone as soon as possible after you receive the notification email, as 'Our available inventory is likely to be claimed quickly'.
So basically what that means is they get some in stock, send you an email and sell it to the first person who asks for it. Not much of a pre-order really, just a request to be notified.

All their preorders say this. They tell you they will hold it for 48 Hours then release it.

They did say the encouraged us as soon as we got the email to schedule your appointment to pick it up early in the day.

Thanks. Yeah let me know what your buddy says. I'll update you with what I find as well.

Oh also, on the Target Mobile website, it has a little blurb about AT&T Next. Not sure if that means anything.

This was the story I got as well. Which, is exactly why they are doing the preorder system the way they are (IE: not actually taking any money down) so that they can resell "your" phone if you don't pick it up.

Fair point, but still no excuse for Target not to have eventually contacted people who "pre-ordered."

I do hope it goes better for people this year.

Having worked at Target, I've had extensive experience working with their mobile department. Basically, it's run by a third party company called Marketsource (it was Radioshack before, but contract renegotiations fell through and Target dropped them.) This is why their hours differ from the actual store hours, and why even those kiosk hours can vary wildly from location to location.

When I preordered my iPhone 5 from them in 2012, I distinctly remember getting mine in right on time, but a co-worker (who had a different carrier) didn't even get his in. At the time, all logistics and inventory were handled by Radioshack. What changed with Marketsource is that Target now personally handles its own inventory of contract phones (it comes in on our trucks from the DC instead of all phone inventory being sent in through Fedex).

This is where my speculation begins, because I have little knowledge of how Target logistics work outside the store level. My belief is that the Target/Radioshack experiment went so horribly (because of all the inventory issues, specifically surrounding the iPhone 5 launch) that this led Target to seek out a different partner in their mobile business; a relationship that would allow them to control their own inventory to hold themselves accountable for what they have in stock.

I know many here mentioned their horror stories about the iPhone 5S launch through Target. I was scheduled in electronics the day of the 5S launch and everything went off without a hitch. All we had available were pre-ordered units, but we ended up with 2-3 pre-orders that were never picked up (that were held anyway because of the pre-order obligation.)

I've got my 6+ preordered through them, so I'm with everyone here, I hope Target can pull through! Still anxiously awaiting my e-mail. I talked with our mobile manager on Sunday, what she'd been told was that Target has now "sold out" of its initial pre-order shipment, and that any pre-orders from here on out will be for later shipments. She also said what many have said here, that phones "should" be in on the 19th, but they could take up to a week to arrive.

I guess all we can do is wait until Thursday night/Friday morning.

I'd really love it for Target to pull through though. While all these guys are lining up at the Apple Store through the night, I can walk in and walk out with a 6+ no issues.
