Love this thing! The colors are gaudy, and who uses their music player to take pictures.

i'll be getting one for sure. Not even sure i need it, but just love the design.

yeah, the design is awesome, the missing camera is not an issue for me because i own a canon DSLR, an iphone 5, samsung galaxy s4, the sleek and slim design and the 16GB memory are enough for me to this ipod.

Okay, for some things I understand but I never get why some people get so fixated off teardown pics, especially for an iPod. What's the need?

I'm sure people understand they just don't care when they want something and I really cannot disagree with them.

Well, there is a very simple solution to that! People should buy what suits them best, on which case an iPod with camera on a back side! Am sure no one will force anyone to get the cheaper one that doesn't have camera. Other ones who are not bothered about camera but prefer a cheaper price will go for the latest! Is't it good having choices?

It can't be cheaper and have everything, for the obvious reason.

I was having a hell of a time yesterday.

I decided I wanted an iPod touch. (I haven't been in the market for them for several years, but I vaguely know about the present models).

So I go on Ebay and do a search for 5th gen models. Fine, nothing unusual there. I then go to Amazon, where i started getting into trouble.

They had listings for 4th gen models they called (current) and 5th gen they call (newest). Yikes! no biggie though, i'll just go to Apple and check models.

Well, I go to the Apple site and they have a 16GB model on the front page as 'New' . At this point i'm totally lost, I haven't a clue.

By the time I figure out what is what i've lost interest.

Thank you Apple for saving me money.

In addition to MacTracker, I would also suggest everymac.com. It's a really handy reference site.

the new ipod is great, the design is awesome, i have no problem with the missing camera. and that thing is slim! will definitely buy it.

Unfortunately Apple is experiencing the inflation the rest of the industry is. Even Almighty Apple has to pass the prices on to the customer at some point
As for the 16 GB iPod touch having something different internally that would be make it more costly. So basically it's a new model with a higher price

What did the last one do with 32 & 64GB of Ram?

I wonder how many of these are going to be returned because the customer doesn't know it doesn't have a camera.

So will Apple start counting Shipped instead of Sold when all the returns come back from confused Apple customers that were looking to capture the moment with a picture only to realize Apple stripped this worse than a car in a bad neighborhood.

I wonder if the Chicago Sun Times reports will use this to save that extra $$ to take FaceTime pictures for the front Page.

This product is a joke at the price Apple is gouging the consumer for.

Maybe they should pull some of the cash back from Ireland and give a REAL upgrade as opposed to a stripped down Cheap POS.

Spend the extra 2 cents to get rid of that HUGE black patch on the back for WiFi and make it the same color as the rest of the back.

It looks like a lopsided cyclopes.

Capture the moment. Quick pull out your phone my new iPod doesn't have a camera.

The ipad and iphone only has 1GB of ram, ipod has half a gig, 32GB flash drive size is something different altogether........

Nevermind, sounds like im having a go at you which im not.

Very Serious Question

Apple A5 dual-core processor, with 4 Gb (512 MB) of Mobile DDR2 RAM.
What does this mean? 512MB is not 4 GB. I've seen this sort of thing on a number of iOS devices and I just don't know what they're getting at. How much RAM does it actually have. One time someone tried to explain this to me and it made no sense. Could someone go through it again?

the new ipod is nice, slim and stylish, i'd have loved to buy it but it's too late i just bought the original ipod touch 5g.

Gb is gigabit whereas GB is gigabyte so it is half a gig of memory and i think the 4Gb is the speed

I went to the Highland Villege I Houston Tx to see the new model in person and it wasn't out on the floor. The one of the people working in that store didn't know that this updated iPod touch had just been released. He had told me that it was the same iPod with the loop attachment thing on the back bottom. smh

Thanks for the tips.

True, and true. They make it a simple as possible....really easy
Even a dead stump wouldn't have a problem.

Anyway, my post was misleading. It wasn't that, that changed my mind at all (I was kidding). I decided that the screen is just too small. I looked at my iPhone and just don't want to go there. There's the iPad mini now that is a killer size.

You better wait for that then because you KNOW that they'll put Retina in the next one. They've intentionally held it back in the first gen... after all, that's what first gens are for...

You people are ridiculous. You know how many people who own an iPod Touch actually take advantage of the camera? Very little. Heck, my brother never uses his.

Out of the almost 16,000 daily iPhone users on Flickr, only a little over 500 are iPod Touch users. There are more iPad users taking advantage of the camera on their device.

It's of course much different on places like Instagram, but still, the users of iPod Touch devices on those services are in the minority. It is a safe move, considering that the kids who did grow up using an iPod Touch are now moving towards using iPhones, and the iPod Touch audience is getting younger.

Setup parental controls, take off access to the App Stores, Safari, etc. It becomes a great device for little kids, and a piece of mind for parents.

I'd remove the front camera and keep the rear. Not many people I know use FaceTime, but a lot have been using their devices for banking, etc which requires a rear camera. So push FaceTime, but ditch a more useful back camera. Got it.

Some have defended this by claiming camera's are expensive. Hmmm, so a rear mobile device camera costs ~$70 more? Got it.

Almost forgot, the removal of the wrist strap. Those are expensive.

I've noticed since Cook has taken helm, Apple has made modest changes within product lines, services, prices, and major upper management moves (firing mostly). These are generally actions by a CEO focused on profit margins through squeezing every penny out of already established products and services rather than forward thinking. This was great when Jobs was the dreamer, but there isn't a dreamer at helm anymore. Jonny Ive is great at his craft, but without a visionary he's produced some questionable products (re: pre-Jobs Apple). If Apple keeps in this direction, I don't know what the future holds.

A whole whopping 16GB with the new release?!? For those of us who enjoy high quality recordings (lossless or WAV) you can't hardly put any songs on that! Apps are becoming larger as well. To me keeping the memory limited is antiquating the device prematurely. I have an iMac, 13" Macbook Pro, 15" MacBook Pro and an iPad in the house however the lack of memory upgrades in Apples products etc are causing me to go elsewhere. I just bought a Samsung Note 8 instead of an iPad mini or touch. To me all the other changes are pretty much pointless if the device isn't able to hold any information. What do you guys think?

Hopefully it's not a prelude to a further fragmentation of models. The first thing Steve Jobs did when he returned to Apple was to get rid of 20 different versions of the same Macs that executives couldn't tell them apart clearly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but nobody is forcing you to buy the new 16GB iPodTouch are they? I really hope not anyway.

In responce to you're points:

-Apple has a very reasonable return policy if someone makes that mistake.

-I assume Apple has returns in all it's device categories, why would this be any different in the way they count sales?
-You might consider moving if you're in one of those neighborhoods.

-The Chicago Sun Times reference was amusing.
-Have you ever tried taking a picture with the front facing camera of something by facing the screen away from you, it takes some skill.

-Although not a crowded space, the iPodTouch is not the only 4"-ish non phone device out there. People are free to choose the competition or not buy one at all if the price is too high.

-The corporate tax story is more complicated than most people think. Apple is not breaking any laws.
-This wasn't a 'real update'. Apple removed the 16GB & 32GB 4th gen iPodTouch and added a 16GB 5th gen model. A new SKU in an existing generation.
-A 5th gen iPodTouch without a camera is not a PoS when compared to the 4th gen with a camera.

-Cases are very cheap these days. Get an opaque one and you'll never have to see the plastic on the back again. It will also reduce wear-and-tear on the device.

-If you can find a sticker of a mouth put it on your iPodTouch, it will make the lopsided cyclops a lot cuter. This may not work with the previously mentioned opaque case.

So now there is a hole in the logic board? Not something Steve Jobs would have approved.
