Just an update guys, have spoken to a real person today at Paypal to make sure they are aware of this situation - they are! Whilst they obviously couldn't make any guarantee of refunds, they have suspended the account pending investigation and are aware that there is a large amount of money involved. Confusingly, they seemed to think I had purchased through Ebay, and were telling me that I would be protected - I should have gone along with it!

They were very helpful at least...how is anyone getting on with reporting to the police? Can anyone give me a phone number, and I will do the same. We got to stick together on this one, we will stand a much better chance of getting something back from these thieving bastards!!

I'm so annoyed, everyday I'm losing hope of getting my money back!

The address of WEB&NET LTD is here:

WEB&NET LTD

24 EFFORT STREET
WANDSWORTH
LONDON
SW170QR

Who will take the pleasure to write to these guys asking if they have any connection with this website? They don't have a number!

The police won't do anything, they're useless. I've reported them to watchdog, any good that will do. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed, guys!

GODDDDD GUYSS WHATS HAPPEND I TRYED TO GET CROSS WITH ANYONE TRYING TO BYE SOMTHINK OF THIS WEBSITE.i was waiting for my laptop(£460)after the invoice whent to the address down angle but the house as been free for the past 2 years i am waiting for palpay to try get my money back .as anyone ele got there money back yet

I have just been done too!

Cant believe this has happened to me, bought a top spec apparantly "imaginary" sony laptop for £680.... got to wait 10 days now for a paypal dispute to be resolved. I thought paypal would cover you but it says i am not guaranteed to get any money back!!! Whoever put their claim in first (in order) gets the money until it runs out... i only just put my claim in so its not looking hopeful!!! Keep the forum posted with how you get on..... Have phoned up my bank they are accepting no responsibility as paypal was the middle man. Have phoned up Paypal and spoken to them about the case, they cannot disclose how much is in the fraudulant account due to european legislation, they also say that i have no guarantee on my money but not to worry!! They will be tracing the bank accounts that it went into if they managed to take the money away from paypal before it was frozen. Over all i feel like having a good ol cry :(

Details on my paypal account are:

thought it was a bit unusual not being able to track it and just like everybody else no reply to emails no contact number etc.
have contacted paypal but not holding out much hope, as it was debit card no insurance.

cant believe so many people have been robbed, hopefully this maybe investigated and we may get some compensation, i wont hold breath!

How many addresses are we going to end up with?

I'm giving paypal until tomorrow to reply to my dispute before I contact them. It shouldn't take this long. I might of been the second/third person to open a claim, by that time the money may have been transfered into a bank account

We'll see...

Cotchme: Man, I really feel your pain. £680 is alot of money!!!

well i lost £460 and the address is the st john one .what i done is i whent down there and its a free house for sale .....them people have to be STOP now:mad:

Update

I purchased a Lap top for £700.00 and looks like I have been done too. Looking at the threads on here I might have been one of the firsts to raise a dispute with paypal as mine runs out on the 4th October.
Reading these I am not hopefull of getting any of my money back! I have got a claim form from my credit card company but it looks like they will blame paypal, paypal blame someone else. All we have really done is passed on the online fraud eliment to the consumer so none of these people get stung, leaving the criminals to continue taking peoples hard earned money, knowing they will never get caught.

Does anyone have any advice?

I will let you know what Paypal say, but it's not looking good for us!

Paypal

Paypal have confirmed the seller has taken practically all the funds from the account and I should try get the money back from my credit card. My review was the 4th October and one of the first, so looks like we have no chance of a refund from Pay pal.

Well there goes my last stash of hope. I want to hurt these criminals in a very humiliating way, just like i feel now HUMILIATED:eek:

Reporting this to the polis

Chaps,
This is a copy of the response I got from the Met.

The link isn't straight to the reporting page though, you have to go a bit deeper

Thanks for your E Mail

Does anyone know if Trading Standards can do anything about this, or is it a police matter?

Also i would recommend to anyone that did buy (not really the correct word) anything from them and registered their email and a password, to change your password on all sites that you use the same combination of email and password. No doubt if they were willing to take your money then they will try for more! This is the main reason that i have a different password for my email account to that i use for sites such as shopping. I think that Paypal is safe as it linked through as normal to purchase so they shouldn't have got that password.

I think it has gone past the trading standards stage.

Interestingly, I didn't use Paypal (they ripped me off once) but there was a pop up when I paid by Barclaycard, which said
Our records indicate that you have a PayPal account. For future purchases, use your PayPal account for a faster and more convenient checkout. Your financial information is stored securely and never shared.
but I used my business e-mail address which doesn't have a Paypal account... obviously another case of phishing and if you put our password in you reall mst change it.

If the money has been withdrawn from their paypal account, I will just cry. I'm a student with a Saturday job and cannot afford to lose all that money.

I'm never using paypal outside ebay again!

Same Boat

I am also in this same crap filled boat, intending to buy a monitor and in all losing £300. I have started changing all my passwords that could possibly be used. I am going to go to my local police station and citizens advice bureau tommorrow. It looks unlikely that paypal should bother to pull their finger out and find our money.

Don't use a bank account/debit card with paypal, ebay or not.

Link a credit card to your paypal account (and start a new account if you've previously given them bank details) and buy with confidence.

***** I paid with a credit card, but they do not imdenify against PAYPAL*****

Hey Guys,

I ordered from them as well.
Some Logitech Speakers for 50quid - still waiting for them :(

I ordered on 12 Sept and payed by paypal(credit card). I started a dispute on 25 Sept.
Still got no answer from paypal. I will contact them today.

I'll probably contact police on monday...

Cheers

The police won't do anything; they will say "refer to your bank or credit card holder" because the law was changed recently. You have to ask your bank.

If you paid by credit card (through Paypal) you should be protected by both of them. If you paid by debit, you will only be protected through Paypal.

I'm still waiting (until the 8th) for a response from them!

Just to ruin anyones hopes, here's the email I got from Paypal on completeion of my dispute.

Dear xxxxx,

So there you have it.................Money gone.

As for protection by your credit card - forget it. You paid Paypal with your card for a service - the service being the transfer of money to techhouse uk.

As far as the credit card company are concerned, that transaction has been completed ok. The credit card company DO NOT guarantee you for any transactions which are then carried out by paypal.

signed up to say that i also got fleeced by these people and received the same response from paypal as above. Foolishly I thought that using paypal would offer me a degree of security, i wont be making that mistake again. I emailed paypal back to say that as far as i was concerned the case was not closed. I uploaded my techhouseuk receipt to them as further evidence. Maybe we should all think about a joint claim to the small claims court....
